What DON'T you like at Artist Point?

It used to be a favorite of mine, until my trip in February. The quality of the food has declined. The smokey, portobello soup (my all time fav) was WAY too smokey. The berry coblber (which used to be my favorite dessert on property) was AWFUL. It was small and just thrown together like a glob of sugary berries...terrible. Service was so so.

We didn't like the bison steak, rather gamey we thought. We also didn't like the dessert we had, which was really nothing more than a bigger-than-normal zebra dome. Definitely not worth $10. And, TDC Nala is right -- the wonderful berry cobler which was my favorite dessert for years, is now down to 1/4 its former size and costs $10!!!

For my money, the mushroom soup is, and always has been, great. The cedar plank salmon never disappoints (except price-wise, where Disney has run the price up to something like $39, with the same piece of fish being more like $27 at Shula's).

In any event, we have not had service issues, happily, but at this point, we think there are better signature restaurants. We would pick Jiko, CG, Citrico's and Narcoosee's before Artist Point.

Unfortunately, we were there last Saturday night and both of us ordered the salmon. The recipe has changed. I wasn't sorry to see the sour dough hunk of bland bread go to replaced by veggies. I WAS sorry to see the berry sauce be replaced by a lighter sauce that was supposed to be Asian of some kind. It just wasn't the same and as a result, the salmon that I normally love was just so so on this trip. I won't order it again unless they go back to preparing it the way it was before.

As with any restaurant, signature or not, there are bad nights and poor service. Citrico's gets lots of love but one of the worst meals and service I've ever had happened to me there. So, I understand.

That being said, I've dined at AP maybe seven times the past few years, and though I don't think the menu is quite as good as it was the first time I ate there back in 2004, I still enjoyed my last trip there back in October. The buffalo filet, which had been replaced by short ribs for awhile, was back on the menu and was excellent--I enjoy mine medium-rare, otherwise, it can get tough. The smoky portobello soup was divine, and though the cobbler wasn't as big as it once was, it was still tasty.

As for service, it was wonderful. I know bad service happens there, too, but not once have I had such at AP. Still, I don't think server training across the board at WDW is as good as it once was. The server definitely should know which wines complement which meals, for example. And splitting checks should be a simple enough process.

To best answer the original OP, my only complaint about AP is that the prices are a tad high. Given that I enjoy their food and service and ambience, it's a price I'm willing to pay. . .but I'll keep a tight watch on them next time I'm there.

Thanks for your post -- but very sorry to hear the salmon was a disappointment on your last visit. Wow -- that salmon is the only thing that would have drawn me back at this point!

Knowing you as one of the "foodies" of the board and, therefore, trusting your judgment, the last reason we had to go back to AP has been eliminated. We'll spend our food dollars elsewhere.

We had confetti on the table for our anniversary with complimentary champagne. (I told them ahead it was our 25th anniversary.) The server was fantastic and the food was yumo!!! The high ceilings make it a big loud and things seem to clang and echo. Not really a complaint, just a statement. We did not have trouble hearing each other.
