What does Your Trader Joes hide??

We have two in our area, one hides an octopus, the other a monkey.

I'd look for a crab if I were you :). I wish they give grown ups chocolate wine or beer - way better than a lollipop :thumbsup2.

Yeah, my assumption is that it would be a crab. Who knows, though!

I've heard the bell being rung and always wondered what it was for. Now I'll be on the look-out.

Oh oh oh, I heard the bell too! I must have missed that earlier.

Is that the only time they ring THE bell?

Now I'm really paying attention. :magnify:

we've only been once because it's about 25 minutes from our house. i didn't know they hid anything. we'll have to look next time. i did hear the bell. my kids wanted to ring the bell, now that i think about it.

10. What do the bells mean at my local Trader Joe's?

It's a kind of Trader Joe's Morse code. Those blustery PA systems just didn't feel right to us, so we came up with a simple system to communicate - island style. One bell lets our Crew know when to open another register. Two bells mean there are additional questions that need to be answered at the checkout. Three bells call over a manager-type person. Honestly, it's much easier than the ole message in a bottle trick.

my son is a manager at a local TJ's and they USED to hide a monkey.
they had to stop because kids in the town were getting rambunctious knocking over shelves and breaking bottles when they were looking for the monkey.
their store used to hide it in cereal aisle or with the veggies but the kids would go down the aisles moving stuff, tossing stuff on the floors etc...
Now this is a very "preppy" town with mostly "soccer moms" who would never think to yell or dicipline their kids. I guess they leave all the diciplining to the nanny

Hmmm...Maybe that is why I can't find our Trader Joes - the entire store is hiding!

We don't have TJ here. :sad1: DH and I visited our first store last month on vacation. I fell in love with their Ginger Snap cookies and the Iced Tea with mint.

Would it be weird to plan all of our future vacations around Trader Joes locations?

I don't think it is any weirder than while considering a new job and move to a new city, putting the lack of TJ's on the con side of the list. Seriously, I kid you not. The lack of a TJ's in the possible new location is right under the 'my church isn't there' con. :lmao:

A Lobo. I think it's even wearing a UNM shirt or is a stuffed lobo from the university. My DH finds it every.single.time. He points it out to me and the nearest kid and we go along our way while I try to convince him we do not need to be buying ALL the cookie butter.

LOVE the Cookie Butter!

OK, is there a list somewhere? How the heck do all you people know about this?

What time are they open till - I want a lollipop.:3dglasses
I found out from a friend of mine.

YES!!!! I would be searching for our "SASSY" if they gave me chocolate!!!

I had no clue! Interesting. I wonder what ours hides. I thought it would be a bear of some sort (i.e. Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs) but seeing above it was Curious George in one suburb. Hmmm...now that I think of it, it could be a Bulldog since that is the mascot of the school in the town it is in.

Do they just tell the cashier where they found it or do they bring it up to the cashier since I assume they hide it in different locations.

And how DID you find out about this? Then again...everything I ever needed to know, I found out about on the DIS. LOL!
See reply #1. :rotfl:

When we first moved here this town didn't have a TJs either. I was here for 4 years before they finally brought one in.

So interesting the things that are hiding at other TJs...thanks for sharing! Our Sasquatch is usually up high where no one can reach. We were there the other day, and I swear my kids were stressing because they couldn't find her. Talk about a marketing ploy that is working...my kids beg to go to TJs. :thumbsup2

Ours hides a horse but I forget his name. We've only had a TJ's for about a month (so I've only been there a dozen times - lol) and I don't think the hidden creature has caught on yet. There's a sign as you enter that explains the game but you can't easily read it with the masses of people fighting their way through the store. It's been VERY popular!!

I'm addicted to the Caribbean Fruit Floes and DD can't get enough cookie butter. Life is good with a TJ's nearby!!

Our "local" store (its an hr away) opens fri, so ill have to wait and c what they hide. But now i want to know what cookie butter is?

Ours hides a pig named "Bacon", I assume because of the large role pigs play in the economy of Iowa. It's a big deal for our kids to go looking for Bacon, and between that and the samples, why we can always get them to eagerly go to Trader Joe's. The funny thing is that they usually now decline the lollypop given for finding him; they just enjoy the hunt!

When we first moved here, TJ's was not yet here, and it amazed up how much we missed it. Since it opened, less than a mile and a half from our home, we're there at least twice a week! Now that Whole Foods has also opened, our lives are complete...

It looks like peanut butter but tastes like a cookie (almond, maybe? Gingerbread?). My DD is totally addicted to it. I'm not a huge fan, but it's one of the most popular items in the store. The frozen chocolate banana slices (Gone Bananas) are also a favorite and sell out fast.

Ok i want to get the cookie butter. Has anyone ever been to the grand opening of a trader joes? Whats it like?
