What does Pot/Weed smell like?

I have smelled pot that definatley smells like a skunk. Skunky weed definatley smells stronger than other weed and in my opinion isn't the cheap stuff (anything grown outdoor is the cheap stuff). There are so many different kinds of pot and they all can smell different.

I once cooked something that the recipe called for fresh spinach leaves under the broiler for a few minutes until the edges were singed. That smelled EXACTLY like pot.

Skunk weed indeed does smell like skunk, hence the name, skunk weed.

It is the product that smells like skunk, not the by-products in the air after being smoked.

It is not the cheap weed either. It can be significantly more expensive than your regular ordinary every day weed.

Yes. It does smell like skunk - but a sweeter version without the horrible skunk stink. That's what it smells like (strongly) in the bag - not as much as it's smoked and the smoke wafts thru the air.
And yes - skunk weed is not the cheap weed - it's usually the good stuff.

This is my "understanding" of it also.

Have you never been to a concert? I'm puzzled as to how someone doesn't know what pot smells like.

And yes, there is some pot that smells like skunk hence the term "skunk weed". And people pay good money for it.

Now that I sound like a pothead....I am not. But I was a teen in the 80's lol and I am a substance abuse counselor.

Where I'm from... Skunk weed is basically cheap weed. It is the opposite of the good stuff. lol

I didn't think there was anyone on the planet who didn't know what pot smelled like. Even if you don't smoke it go to just about any outdoor concert and wait until after dark and you will know what pot smells like in no time. Heck, I've been to indoor concerts that smelled like weed by the end of the night.I have never associated the smell of pot with skunks, it just smells like pot.

Yep. Like the two last Paul McCartney concerts I attended - one inside, one outside. It's a very unique smell.

If you are a concert goer you know what weed smells like. I guess the venue matters.

One thing is for certain it has a smell like no other and it lingers.

I'm told I smelled it once, at a KOL concert. This guy a few rows up was smoking something and my pg SIL had a fit about it. I had no idea. I thought it smelled like dandelions or weeds burning.

I've never smoked anything. Or been drunk. I did have a baby at 17 though

I did smoke...30 years ago. Long after that I could smell it in the air at Blink 182 concerts and such with my child. It does not smell like skunk, and it will not kill you, or cause the downfall of anyone!

It certainly can be skunky and hang around stinking things up.


Anyone? Bold statement. My mom thought that too, until she helped a battered woman get away from her husband, who only became violent when stoned. Stunned my mom, who was herself a hippie as well as a smoker (until she realized that lifelong asthma didn't play well with smoking things). took her a long time to accept that he wasn't altered in any other way...

I am also a product of the Peace, love and rock and roll generation. Honestly, I never thought it smelled like skunk back then. I will admit its been more than 35 years since I have smelled the stuff so I am going to say 'maybe'. Who knows what it smells like today. I remember it more as a sweet smell as another posted. Bu then again, we were all partaking in our quest to find enlightment... so really I may have not been paying attention.

When my mom smoked, which was up until I was 10, I don't remember it smelling like skunk, though it did stink, that's for sure, and it made her and her friends act really weird and emarrassing.

But I dated a string of stoners,and they couldn't afford the stuff that my mom's friends got, and it was incredibly skunkY.

That Y is important...it doesn't smell just like skunk spray, but it's skunkY. Like how Heineken beer smells.



And it certainly can linger for a good while!!!

I think the problem here is that the OP is getting info from people who were using it while gathering the information. Different perspective than those who weren't necessarily choosing to be around it.


Took me upwards of ten years to realize I actually liked the smell of patchouli, once I had finally separated the smell of it from the smells it's often used to cover up....

Whatever they are smoking now does smell like a skunk. I had no clue til recently. I know what weed smells like and this is not the same smell that I knew of. When I started to smell it a while ago (a few different areas), I had no clue what it was. I was even asking some people at work - maybe I was out of the loop. Were they mixing it with something else? My sister confirmed it not too long ago. She had a tenant and had to ask him to leave. He used to smoke it daily right outside of his entrance door (side entrance).

If anyone is curious about the smell - my cousin told me try burning smoke dried oregano leaves and you get the "real" pot smell. If I may call it that.

Two years ago I was at an outdoor concert with my daughter and she says "whats that smell" so I told her it was the people near us smoking pot. A few months later we go to an indoor concert and the person in front of us is smoking pot--my daughter is sitting there with her shirt over her face LOL....this year she is in 7th grade and they were running track at school and some of her classmates were in the back corner of track smoking--I hear my daughter telling her friend--"they were not smoking cigarettes, they were smoking pot, believe me I know what pot smells like" --well turns out she was right, a few months later three of them got caught smoking pot in the school bathroom in the Jr. High.

About the smell of skunk weed.... It isn't that it smells like a skunk when it sprays. Ever pass a skunk that was hit on the road? Smells really strong and it really stinks. Now think of when you passed that dead skunk on about the 6th day or so after it was hit. That is what skunk weed smells like, the weed itself and not the smoke.

This. I was at Orlando Calling a few weeks ago and during one of the shows it suddenly smelled like a skunk *exploded* inside the tent. I asked my brother afterward if he'd smelled the skunk and he said that it was actually pot. Yikes. If pot had smelled like that back in the day, I'd never have, er, allowed myself to be around those who smoked it. Heh.
