What does Obama stand for?

Hope for the hopeless.

If you think that an extension of George Bush's fiscal policies, which have driven an even wider gap between the haves and have nots in this country, and 100 more years of war in Iraq are right up your alley and would be a real positive for the country, then by all means, proudly step into that voting booth in November and pull that lever for McCain!!

No one's forcing anyone to support Clinton, Obama, or anyone else that they feel wouldn't to a good job. However, I've read enough of these "Obama's all talk. Where does he stand?" threads to know that when the question is answered, instead of the questioner admitting that he indeed has a stand on all the issues, and the policy is debated ad nauseum, an hour or 2 later, another "Obama's all talk. Where does he stand?" thread pops up! Go figure?!?!

LOL, i thought this was the first thread...bettter get on the Dis more often!

I'll ask again. In the past, according to ontheissues, he's made statements of change. Has he actually made any of that change a reality?

the Jester handled it for me nicely while I was working...

Part of me knows it's futile...but I keep hoping that someone who is just lurking here will see something that will encourage them to look further and investigate ALL the candidates and go into that booth in November with opinions formed by something other than the misleading information being spewed out by organizations on BOTH sides.

I'm beginning to believe that it is futile. Not that Obama's, Clinton's, or McCain's policies shouldn't be debated here, just the question of whether or not a lurker would be affeected by something we say on these boards. I've read my fair share of non-political DIS threads. Tons of other DISers admit to completely tuning out the rants of people like you, me, Charade, Dawn and the rest of the DIS politicos. As far as I'm concerned, beating each other up's all fun and games, but the people outside of our little group reads a couple posts, sees that, in their opinion, it's SSDD, and go back to the "Jamie Lynn Spears" or "How do I get permanent ink out of my pants?" threads. JMHO.

One of the problems of vacationing...:rotfl:

You know, though, I think that most people are open-minded enough to take a statement that interests them, and look into it. On many occasions I've read something on the Dis that gave the other side of an issue and changed an opinion. If people could keep the sarcasm out, and the idiot comments to a minimum it would help, though.

I am a cynic about politicians, and don't think any of them are decent human beings. I think the process of getting to this point is too contaminating. But there is always that niggling of hope that someone will prove me wrong.:)

Sad, but true.

If someone doesn't take just a little time to understand the political process, the issues and which candidate closely matches their beliefs, they really shouldn't complain about the choices others, who have taken the time, have made for them when someone they (irrationally or not) hate gets into office.

I'm sure many people (actually, I hope) do not get all caught up in the "fun and games" and vote responsibly.

This is totally what happens... And, when you give the answers to the questions, they are totally overlooked or asked again. I don't understand people who just come to the DIS (no offense) and ask these questions. I certainly did not come to the DIS to find out who to vote for. I listened to at least ten of the debates, if not more, I've gone to the websites, I've listened to the candidates, but I'm seriously beginning to think I'm alone in this...

I think that the problem with the primaries, is that it doesn't do any good if you live in OH to get to know any of the candidates until...now. It is relatively clear who the winners are. We will hear 9 more months of fussing and fighting, name-calling and rudeness. By then I will hate them all. And probably just vote by my registered status, and pray that the local and state folks I vote for (from both parties) can have some positive impact.

Not your problem, I know, but it makes it difficult to teach my children political responsibility. I am hoping their involvement in local issues will help them to see that at least at a grass roots level they can make a difference.

You're not alone. Contrary to what I've read on a recent thread ;) those of us on both sides of the political spectrum care about the issues. I've read and listened and watched and read some more. I started out as a strong supporter of John Edwards because his goals and ideas matched mine more closely than the other Democrats. When it became obvious he wasn't going to secure the nomination I began to re-read and re-think the plans and backgrounds of the other two major Democrats. I felt a strong draw to Senator Obama so I read his books and listened to his speeches and visited his website and thought some more. Now he's my candidate.

I come to the Dis to 'see' what's up with lots of things but I don't come to choose for whom I'll vote. :confused3

Kind of an assumption, isn't it? I hear people all over asking the same sorts of questions. I don't think (although maybe I am wrong) that anyone lives their lives based on something written on a msg. board. It is about an exchange of ideas with a large group of people.

No need to be snobbish. Thinking well of yourself is a good thing, but I suspect that you really aren't any better than those people you are looking down your nose at. We aren't usually.

You said what I was thinking. There are instances where a Diser will post information about a topic (not just politics) that I need to look up after. While I think some of the posters like to razz each other in political threads, I'm the type that genuinely likes to learn people’s opinions. I have also been known to change my position slightly on things that have been said here. I'm probably not the majority, but there is something to be said for a forum such as this one.

Getting permanent ink out of pants is important to know, particularly since we will have less $$$ to replace those pants if a Democrat wins the White House. ;)

Unlike the wealth that is trickling down upon us all now under this character.

Well, there's something trickling down on me...but it's sure not $$$$.

Nonsense -- you'll get your $600 soon. Early retirement here you come.

Of course we charged that $600, so you'll have to pay it back later, with interest, to China -- but enjoy.

I already had my WDW $$ budgeted, so maybe I'll make an extra car payment or put it in savings.
