I was just wondering what qualifications he has to run our country. All I ever hear him talk about is "change". Well thats is great and all but what "change" is he talking about? If his whole platform is "change" I just don't see how that is enough for him to get my vote. Does he just mean to get republicans out of the White House? What hard core things is he going to do to bring "change" to this great country of ours? Thanks for your replys:thumbsup2

I've wondered about that, too. How is he planning on making the changes? I would love to know.

I've fallen for political lines, and positive emotions before.

I was tempted to ask this as well. I'm looking forward to see the Obama supporters weigh in.

Hope! Hope we do not get attacked. Hope that he can tax the "rich" enough to put in his socialist programs. Hope that colleges do not raise tuition by the amount he wants to subsidize, Hope that he can 'get along' with the world's dictators. Hope that when he invades a cooperating Pakistan that they 'won't mind'. Lots of Hope. He is riding a crest of a wave...sooner or later that wave is going to come ashore. I hope his surf board doesn't break.

Just an addition...I really am curious. Am hoping that I didnt' just inadvertantly step into a bashing thread.

For those who honestly want to see for themselves and aren't willing to swallow the right-wing talking points whole and spew them back out, here's a non-partisan web site that gives a tremendous amount of substance as to where he stands on issues and what his accomplishments are.

No this isn't a bashing thread. I am truely wanting to know what his position on things are because like I said all I ever hear him say is "change".

These are primarily the reasons he concerns me. Fluff speeches do not give me warm and fuzzies.

I also don't want bashing. I honestly want "someone" to tell me how he's going to do what he says.

Ok, I've been wondering this too. All I've heard from him is "hope" and "change".... how is he going to do this? :confused3

Then why don't you check out his website, watch his speeches and read his book Audacity of Hope?

Change is mainly because we've had a Bush or Clinton in the Whitehouse since the 80's. It's time for someone fresh.

He wants to talk to our enemies.

Maybe if people did more talking we would have fewer enemies.

Since it now seems he may be getting the nomination, I personally need to look a bit closer at him and McCain than I did in the past. I was hoping for HIllary, but if she's not going to make the cut I'm going to vote for who I think will be best for the country, no matter what party affiliation. It'll probably be Obama, but I like to keep an open mind.

Interesting. Like most, I agree with some, disagree with others ("understand why kids do drugs:confused3 Why did he do them?) But wonder how he thinks most of it will be pulled off.

Great website. Thanks!

He is going to cross his fingers! :rotfl:

Here's a couple of my big reasons:

His understanding of the Constitution-I read his second book after DN DEMANDED it. He has a huge section on the Constitution in that volume and I believe that his respect for the document and his understanding of it we will NOT see the kind of abuses of the 4th Amendment that we're seeing under GW Bush. Defending the Constitution is not a Democratic or Republican issue-it's an American issue.

After reading the book-I went to the website and found more things that I liked:

No-Bid Contracts: Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts

bye bye Blackwater....

Close Special Interest Corporate Loopholes: Obama will level the playing field for all businesses by eliminating special-interest loopholes and deductions, such as those for the oil and gas industry

If you're making record profits-you dont' need tax breaks.

End Tax Haven Abuse: Building on his bipartisan work in the Senate, Obama will give the Treasury Department the tools it needs to stop the abuse of tax shelters and offshore tax havens and help close the $350 billion tax gap between taxes owed and taxes paid.

If you owe it, pay it. That's what the rest of us have to do.....

Crack Down on Employers: Obama championed a proposal to create a system so employers can verify that their employees are legally eligible to work in the U.S.

If the employers don't hire illegals we can slow down the flow coming in.

Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

I don't want our troops in Iraq for 100 years. There's no incentive for the Iraqi government to get it's act together if that's the plan.

Obama's Plan to Cover Uninsured Americans: Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress. The Obama plan will have the following features:
  1. Guaranteed eligibility. No American will be turned away from any insurance plan because of illness or pre-existing conditions.
  2. Comprehensive benefits. The benefit package will be similar to that offered through Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), the plan members of Congress have. The plan will cover all essential medical services, including preventive, maternity and mental health care.

  1. I had the FEHBP plan for most of my life-my Dad was a Federal Employee and then I worked for the Dept of Defense for 9 years. It's a great plan and already works well for many families and individuals-there's no reason why it can't work for more people.

Hope that helps......all quotes were taken from the Obama website, but I've also done research on ontheissues.org and found similar stuff.

I don't want to speak for the OP, but I think she wants data other than that on his website. Personally, I'm really good in art. I have a website. I don't tell people on my website that I can't draw. See where I'm going?

I have an open mind, but I've asked the OP's question to several Obama supporters and no one can give me an answer on the reasons they want him as president, aside from him "changing the white house." What the heck does that mean to me?? Is he going to put up new curtains, scrub the floors, really. I'm not trying to be snotty...really I'm not. I'm really looking forward to the answers on this thread.

He is going to cross his fingers! :rotfl:

Must remember first rule of thumb during election time on the dis...some people can't help being rude. It isn't a place to have a real question without having to dig thru the doggy doo to get an answer.

As far as listening to speeches, I live in OH, there isn't any purpose to getting attached to anyone until time for our elections...they disappear like flies...

("understand why kids do drugs:confused3 Why did he do them?)

I dunno, but there are plenty of politicians to ask. Bush does/did coke, Bill and HIllary are potheads, and most of capitol hill probably has one addiction or another.
