What does it mean to be "waitlisted"?

In my ongoing search for DVC info, I've seen numerous posts that mention being waitlisted. What does this mean?

If the time or the DVC resort is not available - MS can waitlist you - one waitlist is for your entire stay - you won't be contacted until they can fill it all

another waitlist is a daily list - each time one of your days is available - they grab it for you - this can be nerve racking you now you got Sun, Mon, Thursday - but don't have Tues and Wed - but on the whole this works better.

If you never have to use the waitlist - count your lucky stars or maybe you are just a better planner.

One time for standard view at BWV I forgot to call the last day that I needed it and had to take preferred view - but the wait list did come in!

Thanks for the info!!!

So, I guess you'd be waitlisted if you plan to visit WDW during the busier times, right?

We normally visit during off season, so maybe we can avoid the waitlist (but we'll see!)

not always - one of the most demanded times is off season - the first two weeks in December.

Yikes, that's our favorite time to go to WDW. Thanks for the "heads up".

Pat, how does this work? If you have ressies at say BCV but are waitlisted for VWL and you waitlist on a daily list instead of for the whole, does MS cancel a night at BCV and then substitute with VWL? So you might end up Monday night at BCV, Tuesday night at VWL and then Wednesday night back at BCV?!?

yup, that's what happens w/ the day-by-day waitlist. if you didn't want to risk that happening, you should get on a regular waitlist, so you wait for all the nights to become available at once.
a lot of people claim the day-by-day waitlist seems to come through faster though... but the price you pay is the risk of having to change resorts/rooms.
