What does Disney do with leftover food and items we leave behind?

Just really curious what Disney does with the leftover food and items, i.e. paper towels, etc. that we leave behind in our rooms. Every trip I seem to leave behind hordes of things--bananas, snacks (some open, some unopened), bottles of water, pop, all kinds of stuff. I am just really curious where it all goes when we go? I have only seen maybe once or twice an item or two that didn't seem like standard Disney fare for a unit.

Just curious if anybody knew? Not worried about it, but just darned curious!!!

We had to leave a LOT of stuff at the Embassy Suites in Orlando last year. I made it look all nice on the table. I hope the maid took it because she was awesome! We left her a great tip too!

ANything in an unopened package they can take, but the rest would be discarded. We actually have thought it was our responsibility to dispose of unused food. We usually take anything packaged that is unopened and find someone just arriving and ask them if they would like it. We try to make sure there isn't stuff like fruit or other perishables left over, and we have been known to pack a lunch for that last day with anything that might be appropriate. We have gotten pretty good about not overbuying food over the years.

We actually had a 1/2 gallon of ice cream left in the freezer for us at OKW! There was a dated note on it that the former tenants would like to have it left for the next members, because it had not been opened. And the last time we stayed at BW, someone knocked on our door, and handed us a 6 pack of beer, because they were checking out, and couldn't take it home on the plane! Thank you!! We used both the ice cream and the beer! :teeth:

Ditto... Disney certainly can't take the chance of any tainted food items being passed on to the next guest. If were to find an unexpected present from a prior guest (I don't ever recall that happening) we would toss it. We too have gotten pretty good about gauging our needs with food. Goes hand in had with not packing too many clothes.... after 8 years we still pack more than we need, but we're getting much better lately. :thumbsup2

I wonder if I gave you our left over beer? :drinking1
I've done this several times (I always make sure the person receiving the donation is of age!).

We've also learned how to better gauge what will go or not over the years. I DO remember having to pitch an almost full (it had been opened...sadly) half gallon of Breyers ice cream. On our trip a few weeks back (just DH and I and another couple) our friends commented how we have it down to a science how much food will go!!! I think we only had to pitch a couple slices of pepperoni, a tiny bit of cheese, a few crackers, and a few slices of deli turkey.

I agree here, this is what we do also, but as said we are pretty good about bringing just the right amount. :cool1:

You know, it is interesting. We were recently at an airport and a man came around and offered sealed bottles of water He said they shouldn't go to waste and that they were perfectly good, but they couldn't take them through security. At first I automatically refused (hearing my mom's voice say "never take candy from strangers"---interesting how those childhood lessons stick). Anyway, then I thought....wait a minute, I would try to do the same thing..there isn't any point of sealed water going to waste...and I took one. I drank it...I was fine...not poisoned or anything!

What a world where we're suspicious of water!

My husband and I had a grand breakfast of southwestern style egg rolls and bourbon chicken for breakfast on the last morning of our last stay. No leftovers!

When we were at AKL last month, we offered our leftovers to the bellperson who came up for our luggage.(I don't want to call her a "bellgirl". That sounds so demeaning!) She was thrilled with our donation of a half a case of water, crackers, cheese, etc. She told us that when guests share leftovers, they put them in the break area for everyone on shift that day.

I've always wondered what happens to the half full shampoo and conditioner bottles I always leave in the shower since I need the extra room in my suitcase for souvenirs. I hope housekeeping takes those home!

I have usually spoken to someone from housekeeping or another guest about our unopened items. I have usually tossed the opened items. This was the first year I left opened items in the fridge. I felt terrible, but we were leaving early in the am on the DME and almost missed the bus as it was. I was able to take the dry items home, but the ban on liquids on the plane kept me from taking home more.

I definitely over-bought this time and will have to remember that next time. Part of the problem was an unexpected visitor on our last full day who wanted to eat out. I had perfectly good food in the room, but not the kind of stuff you offer to company. :confused3

When DW, DD & I ate at the Coral Reef Cafe in Epcot back in 2004
the waitress told us that some of the food is feed to the fish
in the tank.

I take anything opened to the trash room. The rest I leave and the mousekeeper can do what they like with it.

I've always hoped that the mousekeepers get to keep it or that it is left for the next group coming in. Nothing has ever been left for us so who knows what really happens. Although i hope some hardworking person enjoyed those couple beer that I left last time.
