What does BUMP mean in a post?

I have been lurking on these boards for a while now and I keep seeing a post every now and then that just says "BUMP". I have tried to determine the meaning, and I am stumped.

Please, will someboby explain this to me! I am loosing sleep, can't eat and am waisting away to nothing trying to solve this issue!

it means they are bumping it up to keep your post on top so it will still get read and get replies.

I tried to figure this out for a long time........

All of a sudden I am very sleepy............... Off to bed for the first restfull sleep in weeks........ check that, months. Then I will hit the nearest Ben and Jerry's for much needed nourishment.
