What do your children wear to the parks??

Me and my baby-sister tend to wear Disney clothing like character t-shirts and things like that.

This is last September. Kirsta always asks for the Princess dresses and I just can't see putting her in a hot itchy dress. So I made her some "outfits". She also has Cinderella and Belle. Big hit with the CM. Not sure what we're doing this trip. I've made some tshirts from the creative board.

Oh my, those outfits are soooo cute and seem so much more practical than the itchy dresses. I really wish my mother had taught me to sew (of course, I'm not sure she knew how to sew, but my grandmother did). Your daughter is very lucky to have a mom like you.

My girls like the wear dresses and skirts too. I think she will be fine in either. I also buy my girls Bear Feet Sandals, they are very comfortable, but a little pricey.

I'm not that familiar with Crocs since I don't like how wide they are. I've heard they are comfortable, but people have also said they got blisters from them.

I love Bear Feet sandals for my daughter.

OMG those little outfis are adorable! My daughter would LOVE that pink!! :cutie: The pics are so cute! I can't even sew a BUTTON on!! :rotfl2:

As long as it is cool and comfortable, it is ok. We don't "dress up" for any meals, we just generally wear what we wore to the park. My girls prefer sandals, my boy sneakers. I don't bother with the shorts under dresses (especially in the summer time...it is SO hot) they just get lumpy and uncomfortable. I love Lands End dresses. The are light and comfy and wash really well.

I will admit to sewing since I was 10. But in this case I cheated. I started with purchased Tank tops and skorts. Then embellished them. The CM would stop her and ask the "Princess" about her summer dress. She loved the attention. She wants a Jasmine, so I have to figure that one out. I'm all for cool and comfort.

Thanks everyone else for the helpful responses on what worked for your children at WDW. I figured the dresses would be okay, but the bootie bottom was priceless. I was digging around in her drawer yesterday and found some Hanes cotton shorts she got for her birthday that are 4's (so IMO wayyyyy to short) to wear just as shorts, and I would guess they come in various colors...I'm going to look at Wal Mart to price them.

Thanks again y'all!!:grouphug:

We hang on to those short shorts to go under dresses and skirts. Uncle Sean likes to pick her up, and complains when her underpanties hang out, when she wears a dress. So when they go to church, we just throw those light shorts under her dress.

Do people dress up for character breakfasts? For the princess ones, I plan on letting DD wear the princess dresses and bring a change of clothes for her in our day bag, but I don't want to have to dress up and bring a change of clothes for us too?
TIA,
Lesley

I usually get a sash that says "Princess" and a crown to wear with a Princess short set. That way I don't have to deal with changing and lugging clothes around. Last year I embellished some skorts, and she loved them.

My girls wear dresses to the park so they can put the swim suits underneith and be ready for the water play areas, it works perfect for us. 10 minutes in the florida sun the bathing suit is dry and the dress goes back on till we hit the next water play area...

My kiddos are fashion conscious too at 6 and 7 yrs old (get it from their metro-sexual father :lmao: ) It drives me crazy when I try to pack comfortable clothes for Disney trips. The past few trips I have gotten some input from them - like asking which are their fave shirts etc. Then I get the large gallon size Ziploc bags and pack each day's outfit in a seperate bag, including undies, socks, hairbows, etc. When we are at the World, all they have to do is pick out a bag each morning when we are getting dressed. It also helps keep everything neat and tidy in the luggage.

What an awesome idea!! I think I will do that for my DD's 6 and 11.

As a preschool teacher, I know it is appropriate to let kids pick their own clothes but I just cant. I cant go out with a kid in red shorts and an orange and purple shirt. Yes, it is my hangup but I dont have many so I am hanging onto that one!

Usually when some one says that they mean "no disrespect" they follow it up with very disrespectful comments. Your post was no different. There was no need to get nasty.

I assume that the items in your children's wardrobes are you approved of to begin with. I don't expect you to make a couture run for your kids and outfit them in the height of fashion. Whatever that might be for a 6-year old. I was simply saying that you should allow your kids to wear what they want and what they are comfortable in. Yes, of course you are the parent and you can dress them like the Duggars if you want in plain, ugly, modest clothes. That is your right. BUT ... you asked me what clothes your kids should wear and I responded with "whatever they are comfortable in". That is what is appropriate at WDW. You have everything from very plain, modest clothes all the way to the height of princess fashion with heels that light up. Really, anything is appropriate at WDW.

Don't sweat the small stuff, but do take two pairs of shoes!

FWIW, I would also not allow my DD to wear play heels to day camp. Kids need sturdy shoes and some camps don't even allow sandals! The subject of the post was WDW.

I can't figure out why everyone was on the attack with this poster. Don't sweat the small stuff is good advice for all of us. When we have small kids we pick out their clothes, if you pack with the ziploc bag method you won't have to worry about them picking out something hideously mismatched. As for bringing a few pairs of shoes that it great advice!

I on the other hand would never dream of going straight from doing the parks all day to dinner without stopping to shower and change. But that's just me . .. others seem to have no problem with it.

My boys wore tank tops and denim shorts almost the entire trip. Somedays, my oldest had a hat on, but not often. He said his head was too hot

I suggest no jean shorts for the whole family. We just got back from 6/8-6/16. Jean shorts will be too HOT. Nylon/cotton shorts are best(water is used every where at WDW) surprises on attractions. Also they have great cool mists stations too that children love to run thru.

I love love love the ziplock packing idea. I am SO doing that! Thanks for the tip chrissiereiss!

I confess, we love denim shorts/skorts b/c I don't have to keep mathcing things up. denim really does go with any color. and for my 22 pound 2 year old, there's just not to much to dry anyway, :rotfl:

I have moved to khaki for my older DD and it is almost as good at not over thinking the matching thing. there are some nice light weight shorts in khaki to be found.

we are new to crocs this year and my kiddos love them. wear them all the time unless I ask them to wear sandles or something different. the key to a good croc feet (at least what we have found) is to buy them big enough.

nothing should touch the croc except the bottom of your foot. my 2,4,and 12 year olds have never had a blister or rubbing yet and they wear them for hours! I actually had a "rubbing issue" and decided it was b/c I bought to small a size.

have a magical time!

for DD who was 2.5 at the time, was to pack two outfits that all mix n matched in a ziplock bag, complete with hair pretties, socks if needed, etc. for each day of the trip. It worked great! We'd pick one outfit out of a bag in the morning and throw the bag with the other in the backpack. That way if she spilled something on her shirt, or got soaked, or whatever, we had an easy change for whatever needed changing. She did/does like dresses, so we did several sundresses with bike shorts underneath. We didn't really take extra dressy clothes for dinner, but usually tried to freshen up and change if possible anyway. The one evening she wore her Belle dress, we paired it with her comfy white stride rite sandals (those princess shoes just look SOOOO uncomfy for little feet!) and brought a change of clothing along just in case.

The boys, 9 and 11 at the time, just wore cargo shorts and t-shirts. the only time I had them wear nicer khaki shorts and polo shirts was to tea at the Garden View lounge. They wanted to wear Hawaiian shirts to Ohana just for fun, so we made sure they could change that night. They wore sneakers and low socks most of the time, sandals sometimes. We saved the flip flops for the pool though, not the parks.

One tip I can give you is dress them in the brightest tops you have! I dress my ds in a bright green, red or orange tshirt every day. Not only does it look great in photos, but I can pick him out of a crowd in a second! With that many kids at one time, whether it is leaving the Philharmagic with 500 people or on a ride when I'm trying to take pictures of him and daddy-I can always see him right away.
