What do you top your tree with?

We alternate between an Angel and a Star. We usually opt for the Angel!

Our first Christmas we were married (25 years ago) I went on Christmas Eve day to Ann & Hope in Seekonk (for those that know it) to get a star for the tree. There were two left...both the same, one gold, one silver, with lights. I chose the gold. DH hated it from the moment he saw it, but it was all we had. So he put it on, shook his head and said "At least it doesnt' blink". And then it did. Oh well. We still have it, he still hates it, he still shakes his head at the sight of the tacky blinking lights...it's tradition!

Sometimes you just get attached to the tacky things, don't you? We decorated my parents' tree today and an ornament that always goes on the front of the tree at eye level is one my brother made in kindergarten. It's a spider made out of a foam ball with pipe cleaner legs, the whole mess of which is spray-painted silver. Oh, and he gave it one green googly eye and one black one. And this isn't one of those, "Aw, he made it when he was little so it's the thought that counts!" kinda deals...I mean, it's a SPIDER. What teacher thought to herself, "Hey, why don't we make a lovely ornament that my students' families will enjoy for years to come? Oh, if I only knew what kind to have them make.....wait a minute...arachnids! Yes, that's the answer!" Sheesh.

:lmao: That's hilarious! We've got a supply of school-made ornaments from our three kids, and in the last few years I've kind of weaned what I put up (altho, don't throw out the other things...just leave them in the storage box), but I have to say, I don't recall EVER seeing a SPIDER Christmas ornament!

I use an angel that my cousin gave me as a wedding shower gift (I had a Christmas wedding shower since my wedding was November 28th). That was 17 years ago and it still looks nice. :)

We have a beautiful angel that tops our tree, I love angels (next to Mickey of course):)

We put a "house witch" doll that a patient gave me on the to of our Yule tree.

Where'd you get that????

At our local Walmart. They also had purple ones and blue ones but she just HAD to have the pink one. I can honestly say I never thought we'd have a pink Christmas tree in our house. Who knew? :confused3

Funniest part was there was a couple of ladies looking at them and one said to the other, "Oh my gosh, look at this! Who in the world would want a PINK Christmas tree?!" Dd, who is 4, pipes up..."ME! My mommy is getting me one!" They said, "Ah, well, that makes sense then." :rotfl:

In 1981 when our younger daughter was only six, we didn't have anything on the top of our tree. She was a fixer, so she went to her room, drew a very lop-sided star, colored it yellow, cut it out and put it on the top of the tree. Every year for the past 28 years, that wacky, wonderful star has been on our tree. It shines brighter than anything else we have. I love Christmas memories.

We used to have Santa when we had a wooden toy theme to the tree, but a couple of years ago I got all new ornaments and haven't been able to find a topper that I like. So right now we have nothing....and the search continues.

We used to have an angel but not one that I liked. Then we started taking a small table top tree to Disney with us and I used a Mickey Hat ornament. Now I have a 4 foot tree in our TV room and I need something new and Mickeyish. I will look in 3 weeks when I am at WDW!!!! :goodvibes

I top my tree with either an angel or a star. All depends on how I decorate it. Last year used both as I had two trees up. This year I have one up so far and it is topped with a star. If I put up another it will have an angel on top. All depends on how it is decorated.

When I lived at home with my mom - I ALWAYS put the star she made me at the top of the tree. When I was really little we were extremely poor (single mom working her way through school) and so one year she cut a star out of the back of one of my magazines and covered it with tin foil. I loved that star!! So every year I just always wanted to use that! When Dh and I moved in together, I continued to use that until I realized that he believes an angel should be at the top. So we compromised and got a lovely angel and riiiggghhhtt below it always sits my star!

We have a Minnie Angel. But last year our tree fell over (at least twice) and Minnie snapped right at the ankles.

Mighty Putty to the rescue....then a black sharpie. Now it just looks like Minnie has leg warmers.

As of this year, no topper for the tree. Sixteen years ago, a good friend made a beautiful lace angel for me to use as a tree topper. We used it every year since it was so pretty. Last year at the after-Xmas sales, I bought a new tree that is really tall. Now there's no room for the angel between the tree and the ceiling.

We're going to snuggle her between the branches somewhere.

We put the tree up yesterday, and have started decorating. When she was little, DD would bring her action figures in and put them in the tree. She's home from college for Thanksgiving, and those action figures are the first thing she ran to get as soon as I pulled the tree out. I have the most unusually decorated tree.

We have Tink in a red outfit instead of green and her wings light up. Our tree is Disney themed. Love it!

I don't know if this would work with your tree, but most artificial trees have kind of one branch sticking straight up at the top to put the topper on. We just bend ours in half so we can fit the topper. Works great.

:santa: I use to theme my tree differently every year. One year it was snowmen and I used a tophat. Next was a teddybear tree.W/teddy on top. Next was same bear but, with small stuffed animals all over it. Now for the last five years I have a set of holy spirit doves on top. My tree is pre-lite with snow, pinecones and berries. All I have to do is to add dozens of little birds. I put on cardinals, bluejays and white birds. My garland is made of wooden beads that looks likes nuts all strung together.
