Our first Christmas we were married (25 years ago) I went on Christmas Eve day to Ann & Hope in Seekonk (for those that know it) to get a star for the tree. There were two left...both the same, one gold, one silver, with lights. I chose the gold. DH hated it from the moment he saw it, but it was all we had. So he put it on, shook his head and said "At least it doesnt' blink". And then it did.Oh well. We still have it, he still hates it, he still shakes his head at the sight of the tacky blinking lights...it's tradition!
Sometimes you just get attached to the tacky things, don't you? We decorated my parents' tree today and an ornament that always goes on the front of the tree at eye level is one my brother made in kindergarten. It's a spider made out of a foam ball with pipe cleaner legs, the whole mess of which is spray-painted silver. Oh, and he gave it one green googly eye and one black one. And this isn't one of those, "Aw, he made it when he was little so it's the thought that counts!" kinda deals...I mean, it's a SPIDER. What teacher thought to herself, "Hey, why don't we make a lovely ornament that my students' families will enjoy for years to come? Oh, if I only knew what kind to have them make.....wait a minute...arachnids! Yes, that's the answer!" Sheesh.![]()
We put a "house witch" doll that a patient gave me on the to of our Yule tree.
Where'd you get that????
As of this year, no topper for the tree... Now there's no room for the angel between the tree and the ceiling...
