This may seem like a really strange question and I don't want to offend anybody, I just want to learn (strange I know).

I am reading this book called Stupid White Men by Micheal Moore (has anybody read it?) And I have only read a few chapters, but still I am really supprised at what your government is doing. A lot of people in the UK dont have a high opinoun (sp?) of President Bush. I dont really know what he is like so I dont like to comment, but this book shocked me. So all I would like to know is what do you think of your president? Is he bad or is he good?

As I said I dont want to offend anybody, I am sorry if I have.

I know very few politicians that are ALL bad or ALL good. ;) I think they all walk a very fine line trying to keep various groups of people happy.

However, I've got to agree with Dan. Given the choices, he is good.

For every book you can find on the negatives of ANY president of the US, you can find a book full of positives.

It's not as simple as black and white. While there are people who chose to be a member of a political party and ALWAYS agree with that party, there are people who are not as "hard balled" about what they believe.

I personally am happy with President Bush overall, however that does not mean I agree with everything that he does/says. It's been the same since I became aware of democracy, I've always found good things about our leaders, and bad things as well.

I can tell you this, I'm much more impressed with Bush than I ever was with Clinton.

as an FYI- politics in the US are a VERY touchy topic, a lot of people are VERY opinionated in this topic, if your post turns into a flame war, it was nothing that you did, its just the way "we" behave when it comes to this topic.

If you want to see what I mean, head over to the debate board.

One thing to remember, Opinions are like ummm(cant say it here)...EVERYONE has one..

Thanks for the heads up. As I said I just want to learn.

just to let you know, Michael Moore has a very, very onesided view of politics, so I wouldn't take what he says to heart, and given the choices I would also say good, also like him much better than I did Clinton.

My opinion of President Bush varies depending on the current situation but I believe that overall he has done a good job guiding America through the last couple years.

I also need to state that I have an extreemly low opinion of Michael Moore and if he says the president is bad then I know he (Bush) must be even better that I had thought. Michael Moore is an absolute idiot in my opinion.

Keli Right on about the Michael Moore comment. Although you were a little to kind.
Not to get off the subject but we have a trash company here called Titus and whenever I see the sign I think of you daughter's BF and wish him a safe return. Those pictures are so dear and I and your countdown so special.

Michael Moore is VERY biased....very liberal....I definitely would counter this book with a book that is more "pro" Bush and then come to a conclusion.

I happen to think G.W.Bush is doing a very good job leading this country through a time that has been rocky at best. The economy looks to be picking up, and I like that he takes a stand on issues he believes in, popular or not.

Michael Moore has an agenda. To give you another idea of where his feelings lie, the cover of his latest book shows him toppling a statue of President Bush. I would take most of what he says with more than a few grains of salt.

I could not have said this better myself. I like Bush. I don't agree with everything any of the past presidents had done, but you will never find a President that can please everyone.

They way we view politics in the USA is:
It comes from two words, POLI which is Latin for Many,
and TICS which are little bloodsucking critters.

OK I'll probably get flamed for this :duck: but I actually find Michael Moore interesting. Yes he is extremely liberal but there are people who are extrememly conservative so it's all in what side you more agree with. I'm pretty liberal so that probably why I enjoy Michael Moore's work. I have read bits and pieces of his work and thought it was pretty good. To the original question -I for one do not care for Bush - nor would I vote for him in 2004 regardless of who is up against him. His politics and mine are WORLDS apart. As for if he's bad or good - again it depends on which "side" you more relate to. I don't think he's ALL bad by any means but he's far from good in my opinion.

Michael Moore is a Hollywood person, therefore has little or no conception of what life is like in the real world. To the best of my knowledge, he has no advanced education in politics, world affairs, or anything else. He ceratinly has the right to his opinion, but I have the right to think his opinion is, in general, ridiculous.

Do I think President Bush is the best leader this country has ever seen? Probably not, but I don' think he's the worst either. I like the fact that he has brought respect back to the White House. I like the fact that he shows a much higher regard for the office than his predecessor. I think he did an admirable job leading the country in the days, weeks, and months after September 11th. I think he has a much deeper respect for the military overall than President Clinton did.

Do I agree with the war in Iraq??? I don't know. I think he went into it with good intentions, basing his decisions on the intelligence at hand. Do I think it was a total waste?? No I really don't because, quite frankly, when I hear the stories about what the normal Iraqi people suffered under Saddam Hussein, well, for God's sakes, someone had to help them.

Do I care what Michael Moore thinks?? Not a bit. Does Michael Moore speak for all USA citizens? No he does not.

I may not always agree with everything he says or does, but President Bush has done nothing to cause me to lose respect for him as a person. My feelings have nothing to do with the fact that I live in Texas. (For those of you from outside the U.S., President Bush is the former governor of Texas). Every U.S citizen has the right to express his/her opinion, but Michael Moore's public behavior is what has caused me to lose any respect that I might have ever had for him. Therefore, his opinion about anything means nothing to me.

Michael Moore is not a "hollywood person", he was raised in Flint Michigan where most of the community (including his family) worked for automobile companies during the fall of good old american automobile manufacturing. He also was an elected education official (in michigan) at the age of 18 (yes that's right, he was voted into office in the education system).

tricia.

I agree with most of the posters here,

I don't think George W. is perfect or always makes the best decisions, but I do think he is the best of what we had to choose from.

And I think Michael Moore, while interesting, is mostly delusional, and his books and movies are sooooo biased you totally can't accept what he says as face. It is total propaganda.

Well, I am going out on a limb here and saying my piece. I do not believe our country is being led in a good way. We are at war that many people stood up and protested before it began and it has now been shown to have been based on untrue information, at best. We have children over in Iraq who are being killed daily under the guise of liberating this country when so many of the citizens are fighting us off. We also have a terrible economy and to believe the unemployment figures is ludicris. The only reason they have gone down is so many people have tapped out of the benefits they are able to get and are no longer getting money. We have so many friends and relatives who are out of work and new ones being laid off constantly.

I feel that the people in power in Washington have made the choices to assist their own selves and their families in the future. We in the middle class are loosing ground. The schools are suffering, the city and state governments are suffering. Fewer people are able to get help or health care. But...we have gotten three tax breaks and we are now supporting a war and the people in that country as well. This is the first time in our history that a tax break was given while our country is at war. Every other war taxes were leavied.

When I see a "PVC Bush" or "Rumsfeld" in Iraq, I will feel like they are also making the sacrifices the rest of us are. Mark my words, this rebuilding of Iraq will be a boon for a select few companies in the future. We won't realize it for many years but when the dust settles it will not be pleasant.

Yes, I like Michael Moore. I don't swallow everything he says but he does make some interesting points. I am liberal, I am a democrat and I am frustrated. I don't think I am alone.

Thank you all for the replies. At least I can know read the rest of the book with a level head. I am only reading the book because my sociology teacher told us too. There not to big on the USA, which is a shame coz I love the US. I think it is a lovely country full of lovely people. IMO I think it is way better than the UK.:)

I think President Bush has done what he feels has been best for this country if some agree of disagree, that's their opinion. I agree he has done what he can and it has been for the good of the country.
