What do you think of this wedding gift?

Had to come back to give the update. The wedding was this weekend, and we had a shower for the bride the Thursday before. THREE people gave her Groupon gift cards at the shower, and they were the hit of the evening. Everyone, including the bride, went gaga over them, and whipped out their smartphones to talk about what they would buy. The bride ended up using two of them right then and there, and is saving the third to go out to dinner with her new husband.

So yeah. Groupon gift card. I guess you have to know your audience.

That's great that she enjoyed them. :thumbsup2

But I have to ask - if you suspected this was going to be the outcome, why did you start the thread? Even still, why did you follow the advice of strangers on the Internet? It doesn't matter that most of us said that would absolutely not be the case in our cities, you could have still given them to her.

Thanks for the update, Tiger

The nice thing about cash is that if she likes Groupon gift cards, she can buy one.

I'm glad the bride enjoyed it but I am shocked, perhaps it's just a regional thing? :confused3 kudos to her for stopping her shower to whip out her phone and start shopping.....:rotfl:

Just guessing, but... because she's in the couple's parents' age range and wasn't sure if it'd be a good gift for a couple in their 20s/30s?

Well, that's a fair question. I was pretty sure it would be a good gift, but I wanted to know what other people thought. And when the grand majority seemed totally horrified at the gift, I have to admit, I second guessed myself. It's nice to know that Emily (the bride) has great taste, a generous heart, and appreciates creativity and humor. And she didn't bring the shower to a screeching halt to go online shopping - as I said, when the gift cards came out of the envelopes, they were a happy topic of conversation amongst the whole group, and a bunch of ladies went onto their smartphones to see what was available and add to the general, happy, friendly conversation.

But that's mostly the way me and my friends roll - we try really hard to not be judgemental, or petty, or greedy/grasping, or stuck in some 'that's the way the Bride magazine told me to do it' mentality. And thank heavens.
