What do you think of this gift?

My grandparents had everything too. Each year I'd buy them a wine basket or goodie basket. They loved the sweets. I'd also throw in a framed picture of our kids.

Honestly, it sounds like a gift you might give to a charity for someone at a homeless shelter. My IL's are in their 80's, so I understand the problem. MIL is getting a Talbots gc, and FIL is getting a gc for the golf course. Last year we got them a Wii - FIL is the athletic director at the clubhouse at their senior center (he's 85), and thought it could be fun (FIL still refs games - thank goodness for his hip replacement! :rotfl2:).

I don't like it either, sorry.

How about fruit of the month club from Harry and David? My inlaws have asked for it again this year...after getting it last year. We give them the "light" selection since it's only the two of them. This year it was less expensive since shipping for each month is free.

I'd do a basket, but put in a few months of netflix or maybe some old classic movies on DVD. And some movie candy and microwave movie popcorn. I think that would be a perfect gift for them.

Well, I agree with your daughter, too.

Are you thinking of that gift because it is something they need, or is it because you have that stuff already (like from CVSing)? I am just trying to figure out if it is because of financial reasons on your end.

If it is, I would gravitate towards homemade goodies. I love the jam idea.

If it isn't I like the Netflix suggestion. I also like to send consumables to people who have everything. I have done edible arrangements, balsam pieces from LL Bean, amaryllis or paperwhite flowers and cheesecakes.

Good luck! Gift-giving isn't easy!

I think it´s impossible to say, without knowing the people personally.
DH´s grandparents would love such a gift. They keep telling us to just buy them something edible or soap, shampoo, etc. But then again, they´re the kind of people who´ve had the same living room furniture for 45 years and who hardly ever buy anything new. They just don´t want or feel they need much.

My grandparents on the other hand enjoy new beautiful things and are quite easy to buy for. I would never get them this type of gift basket.
