What do you think of Miley Cyrus' new video - Party in the USA?

But this song WAS NOT written for the younger girls! It is not a Hannah Montana song so she has no responsibility to Hannah fans with this song. Now if it was being marketed as a Hannah song then you would have a gripe BUT it is a Miley song.

And none of us females watch guys because we think they are hot?:confused3

Well, hopefully not teenage guys....:lmao:

Well, women are less likely to think your average teenage guy is hot because guys don't generally come into their hotness until they're a bit older (or sometimes a lot older - Johnny Depp is WAY hotter now at 40-something than he was back in the 21 Jump Street days), whereas most women tend to be at their most attractive in their late teens and early 20s. But I'll bet there are a fair number of grown women who think the 17yo kid who played Jacob in Twilight is hot...

I wouldn't consider myself crotchety or old, but I would have a problem with my teenage daughter wearing shorts so short that you wonder why they even bother to put them on. Also, if you are going to wear a top cut so low that you show your bra and everything inside it, why bother wearing a top at all?

So, if the style was to go naked would that then be acceptable? There are plenty of trendy clothes that aren't so short you wonder why they bothered putting the shorts on in the first place.

So, I have no problem with it because it is Miley, I just don't really care for it in general. I know my view point isn't popular. That is why the divorce rate is so high and girls have sex in 7th grade because it is now acceptable in our society. Just not in my house.

Thats quite a stretch going from accepting fashion trends to accepting 12/13 year olds having sex :sad2: I'm not sure where you got your info that its acceptable for that age to be having sex, but you might want to check your sources :confused3

BUT who is most likely to watch the Miley video when it is played on the Disney channel? Hannah Montana fans! Regardless of who the song was written for, both Miley and Disney are marketing the video to the Hannah fans otherwise it would not be played on the Disney channel where Hannah Montana can be seen over and over and over and over.... They are banking on the idea that if you like Hannah, you just might like Miley too. The only reason the Miley video is even on the Disney channel is because of Hannah Montana. At this point, Miley's fans are Hannah's fans. Her fans on the Disney channel are still 6 to 12 yrs old, and she has a responsibility to them whether she is Miley or Hannah.

Like I said if the video was on any other channel, I would not complain. I just don't think the video is age appropriate for the Disney channel audience.

She does not have a responsibilty to them to make Miley Cyrus appropriate videos, Miley is not a Disney chatacter. It's Disney's responsibilty to show videos that are appropriate for their audience. I'm pretty sure she has no say in the decision of what they show on their channel.

I disagree! Miley does have a responsibility to make age appropriate Miley videos when she knows her Hannah fans are going to be targeted. Whether she chooses to live up to her responsibility is her choice. She is a smart young lady, and she knows who her fans are and how old they are and where they can be found. She knows who is going to be watching the Disney channel when her Miley video comes on - her Hannah Montana fans. I am pretty sure Miley has a say in what Miley wears and how Miley presents herself. No, Miley is not a Disney character, but a Disney character is what Miley has claimed her fame on, and Miley is hoping to gain fans through her Disney character. I posted earlier that I was disappointed in Disney's decision to play the video as well. They are also aware of Miley's audience, and both have neglected their responsibility to them.

I guess we will just have to disagree, I think its totally unfair to expect an artist to remain what we think is appropriate for our children just because at one time she was marketed to them (especially when her character was a teenager and we parents let our young dd's become obsessed with her). I am glad to see her growing up and doing her own thing and getting away from her Disney character and her Disney image and bringing some fans with her and gaining some new ones as well.

At some point we need to admit that we are responsible for what our children watch, listen to, idolize, how they dress, etc and stop blaming musicians, TV stars and Disney.

I agree!!!! A 17 year old whether famous or not should not be responsible for being a certain way because of our children are looking up to them, the chances of a child being just like Hannah Montana or any other famous person when they grow up are slim to none so maybe they should idolize someone else who is actually in their lives!

I agree... well said.

I don't think that it is unfair to expect an artist to take responsibility for the example that they give to his/her audience. Miley marketed herself to young girls, and though she not responsible for the actions of these young girls, she is responsible for the example that she gives to them. Blaming musicians, TV stars, and Disney is crazy, but asking them to be responsible for their example is not.

I couldn't care less what Miley wears or says . . . BUT if it she wears it and says it on the Disney channel, then I think there is cause for concern. That's what this whole debate is about!!
She looks trashy/trampy (especially for a teenager) in this video, but that is her choice. As long as her video isn't on a tv channel dedicated to kids, then she can do whatever she wants. If you put that trash on TV for kids, then parents have a right to be outraged.

And you also have the option to change the channel or turn off the tv. :thumbsup2 Which, by the way, I won't be doing. I like Miley. My DD9 knows the difference between what she sees on tv, in the movies, etc. and real life. And DD knows she doesn't not get to dress like that and she knows that because we as her parents have explained the difference between a show and real life. She can dream and dance along and wish she were up there performing but she knows it doesn't pertain to her real life because we have taken the time to explain that to her. JMHO this morning:)

Im glad we arent the only ones making a stand against Mileys behaviour. I havwent seen the video, dont care too see it. We had been questioning for some time her actions, but hey, she is in the spotlight, she is young so we tried to overlook some fault on her part. But a few weeks back, she was on the Teen Choice Awards and made a very bold but ignorant move IMO and my familys opinion.
Miley chose to dance while using a very suggestive pole/stripper type moves!! Her dad is sitting in the audience with approval on his face. OK this is the straw that breaks it for us! DD, who writes in a teen column for our local paper blasted her with all four barrels. Yes its just opinion, but I was proud that my 16 yr old knows right/wrong and took a stand. Mileys new cd came out a few days ago, DD refuses to buy.
I get it, Miley is trying to shed the HM image, but she is going way to far with it!!

Not sure we watched the same show... she was not dancing like a stripper dances. I take it you've not been to a strip club and seen the way they dance??? Especially if you are saying that she was dancing like one of them.

that is the video being discussed here. Those moves are not at all "stripper like" to me and are something most dance shools would teach in a tween level jazz or hip hop dance class. My 6 year old has taken dance for 3 years at a very conservative dance studio. They are very particular about music and costume choices and making things suitable to the age of the dancers, and they use a lot of these elements. I see no problem with it. Dance is about moving your body. You are going to have to shake your hips in order to do that. I have watched the performance in question several times and did not see anything overly suggestive or not suitable for a teen. This is what modern forms of dance ie. jazz and hip hop are intended to be. I don't get waht the problem is?? Just because she happened to touch a pole during the course of the dance doesn't make her a pole dancer!

Did you actually watch this? Do you even know how a stripper dances? I'm sorry but that statement is so far off base it is silly.

I posted a link to the video a few pages back. She is literally on the cart for about 37 seconds, is being pushed while holding with one hand, the microphone in the other hand just swaying her head back and forth singing. She is in NO WAY doing "stripper" moves and if you think she is then you must really be misinformed on how a stripper dances.

Go back and watch it again - PLEASE.

It is all in how a child is raised. If you as a parent don't like something or you don't agree with something, until they have a job to buy stuff for their self you hold all the control. Just don't buy it and don't watch it. Seriously, if the video offends you don't watch it, change the channel or better yet turn off the TV!!! If you don't like the short shorts then don't buy them for your preteens! You set the standard in your own home, not Miley, not Disney, and not anyone else! But please keep in mind, just because a teen is wearing short shorts and a tank top it doesn't make them the least bit trampy.

Do you have issues with bathing suits too? (You do realize that the bra is there so that you don't see what is under the bra... not so you don't see the bra) My daughter wears short shorts (actually they are cut off jeans) and that doesn't make her a tramp or anything close to it.

Where do you live??? My daughter is in the 8th grade and she hasn't even kissed a boy yet! Her boyfriend broke up with her because she wouldn't hold hands with him. :lmao: (I know his mom and we are very close to their whole family, our kids have grown up together. And that is what he told his mom...)

I loved Johnny Depp when he was on 21 Jump Street. I was a teenager at the time too... He was so yummy! But he is quite the hotty now too. :goodvibes

The kid that plays Jacob is kinda cute, but isn't he 18 now?

And you also have the option to change the channel or turn off the tv. :thumbsup2

Which is exactly why our family has chosen not to have cable (well, the parent chose it, the kids aren't exactly thrilled with that choice!!). There's just too much junk out there. Better to avoid it in the first place.
There's no way her clothes/dancing are appropriate for little kids to watch. And when teen-age girls dress like that at the mall, you can be quite sure that a large percentage of us are shaking our heads wondering what in the world their parents are thinking letting them go out dressed liked that. :sad2::sad2::sad2:
