I was just wondering if the show "it's tough to be a bug" is scary for kids. I have an 11 and an 8 year old. The 8 year old isn't too keen on bugs! are they realistic looking or more cartoon-like?

Have they seen the movie "A Bug's Life"? It's the characters from that movie. It's a very cute little show - I would go if I were you! They're cartoon bugs. It's a 3D movie!

Here's Info about the movie: http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1800019794&cf=info It's cartoon but looks similar to Toy Story animation. If you have time before your trip, I'd suggest renting it so everyone can watch. Then you'll know whether your 8 year old would like the attraction.

Enjoy your trip!!

The bugs are pretty cartoon-looking. But there are other things that can be upsetting. There is a smell from the stink bug, and there is a feeling part where it feels like the bugs are running right under and by you. So all together it can get under your skin. I really didn't like it either, and I'm 20!

I LOVE "It's Tough To Be a Bug"! It's the best 3-D show ever. My husband & I watch it every time we go. The only thing that might be scary is the 3-D effect itself (it scares some kids to have things coming at them). But, if they liked the movie, they will probably get a huge kick out of this. Most kids leave the theater smiling. :)

There's also the part where the big spiders drop from the ceiling. They don't drop on you or anything. They come down on their threads and go back up after several seconds but I can imagine it being scary to a kid with an aversion to bugs.

My 5 year old loves this attraction and she is afraid of everything, especially bugs. So, I think your older ones should be fine.

I love this type of attraction! It's alot of fun, great experience. My 8yo daughter...ehhhhh not soo much. She doesn't care for the seats, poking, rollers under your seat, the dark then the spiders droppiong down. If i give her a choice 2 go on it the answer is 99% of the time NO!

I enjoy this attraction very much, but like others have said..some elements may be scary for some children. Actually may be scary for adults, too...the woman seated next to me admitted she thought it was ME pinching her bottom at first when the "bugs" run under your seat. :rotfl2:

There are other effects as well as the stink bug that could be frightening to a child with a bug aversion.

*SPOILERS*

In addition to the spiders that drop down from the ceiling, there's a part when guests get "stung" by hornets. It's merely a little poke in the back, but if it's not expected can be frightening. Also, near the end the roaches are asked to leave before the people do and you can "feel" them leaving as your sitting in your seat. And the termite spits "acid" at you, and guests get sprayed with water.

Personally I love the ride, but your 8 year old may not.

My son was 5 when we saw it at DL and although he was startled at the "stinging" part, he loved it. He is kind of a scary cat when it comes to dark but he was fine.

Nearly everytime I go there are at least one or two screaming kids in the audience. So not all are pleased by the effects.

Dh and I LOVE the show, and when we took our 4 yr old nephew, he loved it too. It is just a fun fun 3-d show!! :earboy2:

Sounds like my girls. My 8yo dd and my 6yo dd will not have anything to do with this ride ever again. They were scared to death! They are still talking about it! I think it's kinda neat what tricks they play but it's pretty ramped up for kids.

My 11 year old hated it and my 4 and 8 year old were so freaked out from Honey, I Shrunk the Audience that they wouldn't even go in. We will be skipping these 2 attractions on the next trip.

When we went last year, our youngest daughter was 4 at the time. Her b-day is in Sept so she was almost 5. She did NOT like the show at all. I was really surprised she didn't like it b/c we live on a farm and used to having bugs around. I think it was a combination of the loud noises, being in the dark and the special effects. She sat in my lap w/her face buried in my shirt the entire time. On the other hand, my almost 8 yr old loved it. Perhaps if I had known what to expect and had warned her about it, she would have enjoyed it more. I think it's a great show and would definitely do it again!

DS9 wasn't scared, I don't think. But for some reason he was leaning over when the thing "stings" you so he was lucky enough to miss that. Next time I will lean forward because my back was sore for quite awhile after that.

The only character in ITTBAB from Bug's Life is Flik, I think. The others are animated bugs but they aren't familiar characters.

My little 4 year old laughed and said it was fine when we watched this attraction, but the next year when we wanted to go again, she said no way. She won't do ITTBAB, or HISTA ever again. Didn't like the stink bug, the spiders, the bugs under her seat, the sting, the spray.. And between the snakes and the dog!!! no HISTA for her. :earboy2:

More than the bugs, I think it was the loud noises that scared my kids. They are only 3 and 2, but we will not be going back there in a long time. They even know the sign there and scream when we're near it. I don't like loud noise and that was my biggest complaint about this show, and most of the other 3-D movies at WDW as well.

me to loved it.......my 12yr old liked it, but hey what 12 yr old boy loves anything :rotfl:
