For those folks in cold weather regions of the country (or world), let's find out what the average is out there. What do you set it to when people are home and awake in the winter time?

Upstate NY - live with my DD, her DH, my DGD, 2 cats, and 1 dog..:)

Son-in-law has an automatic timer on it.. At 6 a.m. it is set for 67 degrees - which is where it stays until 10 p.m. - at which time it drops down to 65 degrees..

I keep the heat register closed in my room (the warmest room in the house) and keep my window open part way.. It has no bearing on the amount of natural gas being used because the thermostat is located in the living room and my door is always closed..

We have ours set 69 from 6:30am till 8:00am and then again from 4:00pm till 11:00pm and then any other times it is like 64.

60 while we are at work and during the evening sleeping hours. It's on automatic timer so it goes up to 70 in the morning while we are waking up and getting ready for work then it's warm in the house when we get home until 10pm when it drops down to 60 again. On the weekends it stays at 70 during the day unless we are out then it will go back down to 60. I think it saves this way.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

How are you all not freezing? We don't really have a system- just move it up and down as it gets too cold/too hot. It's never below 70, though.

We live in an old and very drafty house. We keep it at 70 most of the time and drop it to 67 whenever we're out. If it's windy out, we're very cold even with it set at 70. I couldn't imagine going any lower

It's set at 65 during the regular awake hours, but I do adjust it as needed. Sometimes I do turn it up, and sometimes down. And then at night, it goes down to 61. But this is for the first floor furnace... we have a second one for the upstairs. And it's basically the same, but in reverse. It's at 61 during the day, then it goes up to 65 for about 3 hours for the kids bedtime and mine, and then down to 63 overnight.

We did have it around 65 or less because of oil prices and then kept my electric blanket on high.

DH has now cut a ton of fire wood and I have the wood stove going. It's a little hot in here right now...85. My poor DD just came back from changing her clothes. I like it warm but I guess it is a bit much.

70 all the time....big adjustment, last year it was never below 73, usually at 74 but by the end of Winter our gas bill was :scared1:
So now it's 70 all the time and I wear pants, shirt, socks and a sweatshirt all day plus sleep with my robe on, on top of my pjs.... so yeah I'm dealing with it.
We live in Ohio BTW.

When I am home and awake I have it at between 60 and 65. When I'm not home or at night when I'm sleeping I put on 55.

I know that is pretty cold, but I'm not home usually for about 12 hours
a day, so I'm not heating the place when no one is there. And at night, I have a down comforter and if I turn it up any higher, I get way too hot.

When I am home, I am a hot person...I'm always hot. I go to my parent's who have their heat set on 70 and I'm dying...I always bring a short sleeve shirt to wear when I'm over there. I'm usually comfy at home with the heat at 62 (unless it's really windy, then I turn it up some) but my sister or mom will come over and say it's freezing and leave their coats on! :rotfl:

Ours stays around 68 degrees in the winter. When we have really cold days here (below 0), I sometimes will bump the temp up for short periods of time.

Well if only knew how set thermostat that well help. I told the person who install the thermostat that need to be idiot proof and I got high tech one. I really serious thinking calling back say put one that push up and down because. I can't figure out thermostat the high tech. At high 70 degree I live in the south anything below 70 degrees is freezing.

Ours stays at 64 year round. It's cold in here in the summer and in the winter. My kids wear blanket sleepers or thermal/fleece pj's and socks - my ds has even been known to wake up in the am with his shoes on. I have a nice warm comforter on the bed but I also have to run a fan or I can't sleep with my dh's snoring. When we first married, my older dd and I froze all the time - we were used to higher temperatures. But eventually we adjusted to it and it's all ds6 and dd4 knows. When guest come over - they freeze.

Ours is set at 67 during the day and 64 at night. We have an automatic thermostat so it goes down around 10pm at night and in the morning it goes up to 67 around 6am. If you are walking around the house with short sleeves and barefoot in the winter then you probably have the heat to high!

Our heat is set at 65 when we're home/awake and 62 when we're gone/asleep. I also turn it down to 62 if I'm the only one here. Everyone has a big fuzzy blanket for tv time and the girls often wear sweatshirts with their pajamas.

from 3-10ish it is about 62-63. We turn it down to 60 at night. About 6am DS sets it at 66 and sits on the heat vent attempting to wake up while he eats breakfast. (Yes, I know this sounds strange) The last one out the door at 7am (dh) turns it back down to 60 since no one is home for the day.

On weekends it is 63 all day long except at night when we turn it down again.

- old house, built 1880's with plenty of blown in insulation put in over the years. If the heat is on too high the upstairs gets HOT HOT HOT!

Ours is set at 70 now and usually stays between 68-70. It's 18 outside & I'm cold almost all the time, in or out. My thyroid helps keep me cold - I'm almost looking forward to hot flashes so I can finally be warm every now & then!

I'm asking for an electric blanket for Christmas because I hate sleeping in lots of layers and despise cold sheets. More power to those of you that keep it cooler, I know our bills would be lower but I just can't do it.
