What do you LOVE about DL and DCA!!

I love the fact that in 6 days I will be there for the first time!:woohoo: :woohoo:

That's awesome!! Please share your trip report with us! We would all love to hear how your first visit to the park went! :thumbsup2 If you stop by City Hall on Main St. you can get a free button that says: "1st Visit to Disneyland." :goodvibes

First a little background. I've only been to Disneyland once, although I've been to the world countless times.

After an extremely long flight from NY to CA, realizing we were staying at a dump and being sick the entire day throwing up I had no intention of going to Disneyland that day. My fiancee kept pushing and pushing and i kept complaining and feeling sorry for myself all the way through the turnstiles. Then like magic I came through that tunnel and that was it! Instant magic!

I was a kid again and so was my soon to be hubby!

DL:

-The smell on Pirates
-Splash Mountain
-Mr. Toad!
-The music playing outside of Alice
-Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion
-The wonderful parade
-Toontown in general
-Turkey legs!
-Spending countless time in the shops, and always forgetting my jacket on chilly nights so I have to buy a sweartshirt :rolleyes1

DCA:

-Muppets
-The Animation Academy

(We didn't explore DCA much at all, but look foward to it on our disneymoon in less than 3 weeks!)

What a great story - thanks for the background - you definitely prove that it is the happiest place on earth!!! :cool1: Have fun in three weeks and congrats!!! :cool1:

I bet i've written down 15-20 items on my "to do" list for our next (second) visit to DLR. (Including macaroons & beignets) Thanks to all for the great ideas.

What do I love?

That I was able to introduce Pinocchio to my 7 y/o, and the many things we were able to learn & discuss from this story.

(& that marvelous Toad.) :cool2:

-I love the planning, for months in advance I have a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing I will return
-Dole Whip Floats - Is there anything better?
-The Blue Bayou, the dark atmosphere, the anxious faces riding POTC, the Fireflies.
-Sharing the experience with friends and family (we're taking my in-laws for their first ever Disney experience!)
-Taking off your shoes for Soarin' (sorry to the people below me  )
-The attention to detail, I always marvel at the detail, I don't even dream in that much detail...
-POTC, I've ridden countless times, and I never walk away disappointed
-Knowing that it will always be different, yet always the same
-Having all of life's worries melt away, nothing else is important except family, friends, and having fun.

They seem to be a seasonal thing at the Blue Ribbon Bakery. I became addicted to them on our first trip there. They are shaped like the matterhorn and drizzled in chocolate. YUM! On a subsequent trip, I wanted to bring a bunch home for friends and family, and I was so sad to see that they weren't making them! So I talked to Chris, the head baker, and he made me my own special batch of macaroons fresh and hot to take home that day.

Ever since that trip, I check on my first day at the park to see if they are making them. If I know I want a dozen or more, I always ask to see Chris, and he takes care of me! :thumbsup2

And Disney is definitely my happiest place on earth :goodvibes

OH that is good to know! They are very yummy and I haven't found them made any where else like that but at DL. I usually get some to bring home with me, but last time I waited until to late in the evening on the last day to get my "bunch", and they were sold out  :scared: :scared1: and I had only had one the entire time I was at DL last time :sad1: The CM told me they usually make them in the morning and sell them until they are gone each day. So I missed out!! :sad1: I was very sad. So this time I am going to buy them early and often ;)

I also love the planning before a trip and the anticipation of getting there on the first day.

I love the TOT and Cali Screamin'.

I love the smell of pine and oranges on Soarin'

I love that DL really is the Happiest Place on Earth!!!

This thread is like taking a virtual DLR trip! :goodvibes There are a zillion things that I LOVE! A few are:

I love eating a chocolate croissant while sitting in the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour before starting our day of adventure.

I love the bright colors of Fantasyland.

I love walking through the tunnels and looking at the retro attractions poster.

I love the Disney Gallery.

I love going through the shops looking at the Disney artwork and books.

And on and on and on...!!

Gosh all of you have named just about everything I love (which is everything) about DL!

Gotta agree, I love the months of planning. I even love the drive down there (long talks with DH for hours while our son sleeps in the I love watching my son there. Seeing all the magic through him, and back seat). The excitement we all have.

knowing I'm making all those wonderful childhood memories for him to have.

I love being able to relive my childhood. My Grandma would join us on most trips. Both my Grandma and my Dad are gone now, but seem so alive to me when I'm there. I can picture my Dad getting off of BTMRR, white as a ghost. Or my Grandma on the Mark Twain pointing out the burning cabin to me. There are many times during just about every trip I will tear up when a memory catches me off guard. All happy tears though of course!

I love the smells, the landscape, seeing the Characters. Watching the parades and fireworks together. It being Walt's park, and seeing the light on for him in his apartment. I love it all, which is why I keep going back again and again! :) Very cool thread!

Oh gosh I almost forgot, I love to shop on Main Street, getting that one more special thing that we want. Especially the snow globe shop. I can spend hours in there deciding what one I'll be bringing home! ;)

I've never thought of taking off my shoes on Soarin'. I've seen people do it on the Maliboomer but I thought it was because their flip flops would fly off!

I cant wait to try that! Do you put them in the storage below or leave them on the ground?

Oh and I love the fact that as we are walking out of there past closing on the last night of our visit and all exhausted I ask DH if he wants to swing by World of Disney and his eyes lighten up and he smiles and shouts YESSS!!! Then we spend a hour and a half there getting the things we didnt and had been thinking about!

I love the way the trees on Main Street and the hub twinkle!

Man these are all fun to read!

They are fun to read! I've taken my shoes off before I just left them on the floor and they were there when we landed but I'm not sure if that's the way you're supposed to but that's the way I did it.

I love getting the mickey shaped ice creams and racing with my dh to see who can be the first to bite into theirs. Since they are so frozen and I'm a baby dh always wins, but that doesn't stop me from trying!

What a great thread. Not only have I agreed with a lot said, it also has given me some great ideas.

We (wife and I) took our kids there two years ago when DS was 5 and DD was 3 and had one of the best vactions in my life and I love to travel. We are going again in July and can't wait to relieve the memories, so here's what I loved

I loved watching my childrens face light up after riding Buzz Lightyear which was their very first ride.

I loved holding my crying DS after riding Mr. Toad (his third ride) and telling him it was ok and nothing is in any of the rides is going to hurt him. Then proceed to take him on the Mattahorn and having to deal with it again, LOL. I am so mean.:rolleyes1 This year he said he can't wait. By the way my DD wanted to go again.

I love the chracters and how great they are with the children. They never make you feel rushed and always waive even if they are leaving.

I love that CM will take the time to answer questions.

Like others have said, walking through the front gates and leaving ALL your problems behind.

I love that my children are SO excited to go again this year that they ask me everyday what I learned new on this board. Wife is already tired of talking about it.

I love all of you loyal DIS'ers who can help all of us keep that magic alive in our hearts and our family. To all of YOU I say THANK YOU. You have made this a special place for me and my family:thumbsup2

OK, two more I just thought of, because I thought they were so sweet, they really touched me:

On our first night, we decided to go to the park even though we had only one hour before it closed for the evening. We waited in line at the gate, and when we got to the ticket-taking CM, she gave us an enthusiastic smile and said, "Welcome to Disneyland!" (I don't know anyone so chipper at the end of a long workday, so she impressed me a lot! :lmao: )

Every time we left the park at closing time, we loved seeing all the CMs at the gate with the giant white Mickey hands, waving and calling out "Good night!" to all the guests. What a lovely gesture! My boys loved giving high-fives to the big Mickey hands, too. :thumbsup2

Awe I just loved your post! Sometimes I wish I had kids just so I could take them to dl to see their faces.
I also wanted to agree that I love that the characters will wave no matter how busy they are. One time a group of characters were heading to the cm only doors for their break and they were all waving to the group of kids that were watching but one little boy started to cry because they were leaving and they ALL ran over to him and gave him big hugs and took some pictures with him. I think it made the little boys day it was very sweet.

DS6 and I were wearing flip-flops, and the CM told everyone to remove their sandals or flip-flops and store them in little pockets underneath the seats. Even though I was sure I could keep them on my feet, I didn't want to take the chance of ruining someone else's experience by a falling flip-flop, so I took them off. I wondered why we couldn't just leave them on the floor, but thought :confused3 and stored them in the pockets as directed. Now I'm :lmao: at myself for not just leaving them on the floor! After all, they must tell us to stow them for a reason, right? :rotfl2:
