What do you give your kids for Valentine's Day??

I thought it was so sweet when I was a kid. My mom was a stay at home mom but on V-Day my sis and I each go to invite 3 friends over after school so a total of 8 kids. Mom would put a pink table cloth on the table and feed us red and pink after school snacks, (yogurt, strawberries, etc) served on pretty party plates and we got to drink pink punch from champagne glasses then as dessert she made big heart shaped cookies with each person's name scripted in frosting. We then played till the parents came and picked them up. I think my mom had too much time on her hands. :rotfl2: Great memory though!

I want your mom! :flower3: What a sweet idea.

My kids get from us one small heart shaped box of chocolates that they don't have to share with anyone. I think about 5 pieces or so. I remember getting that when I grew up and it was special to me. No other gifts from us.

Up until a few years ago, my DH would give the same gift to each of "his girls" -- one long-stemmed red rose for each of the years he'd spent with each of us. My DDs (now 13 and 14) loved that Daddy brought them Valentines' roses, too! It was quite a sight to see. Big, burly dad coming in with 20+ long-stemmed red roses.

As the years went by, it got so expensive, I asked him to just pick up a bouquet of mixed flowers for us now. Funny, though, he just mentioned last night wanting to get red roses again........let's see, 16 years with me, 14 years with DD14 and 13 years with DD13 -- yikes, that's 43 long-stemmed red roses!!!:scared: And now that my mom lives with us, too, that's another 16 -- for a grand total of 59 long-stemmed red roses! I think I'll mention the box of chocolates, instead.

Typically, my kids get a movie and a little box of chocolates (for the older ones), and my preschooler gets a stuffed animal or something similar with a little box of chocolates.

We don't usually get our kids much, just a big Hershey's kiss. And I make a special vday dinner - heart shaped burgers or meatloaf, red mashed potatoes or heart shaped fries.
The best thing about vday for me is, my dad still gets me and my sissters a valentine (usually candy).

Oh, I like the idea of a movie for them to share! Are there any good movies coming out soon? I know Madagascar 2 is coming out..that may be an idea. Too bad HSM 3 and Bolt aren't out yet, those would be my first choices!

Normally I just do one of those $1 boxes of chocolate for all three, but now I am thinking of doing a movie with some popcorn for them as well! The DIS is awesome for some great ideas! :cheer2:

I found 2 Valentine Domos at Target, my boys love that little monster. I have to crawl up in the attic to see if I got anything last year, I don't remember! The problem with shopping the clearance sales!! I will probably add a small box of chocolates to that and maybe some sugar free gum. they will get lots of candy from school.

DH and I don't exchange Valentines-I add that money to the Disney fund instead.

I just bought SpaceDogs today at Walmart. I would save it for VD, but we are driving to NASA this Friday so I will give the movie to them for that. It looks really cute-they love Golden Retriever puppies!

When i was little my dad always got me chocolates and it made me feel so special.

DH gets DD something little like a stuffed animal or chocolates and I get something for DS.

This year they are getting spoiled! I found a jewelry box at kohls 70% off for DD. I also finally ordered the wii fit and that will be a gift from DH to DD and I. DS will have to have something comparable!!!

Their school also sent out a fundraiser for candygrams. I was upset at first thinking it is way too young (DD is 3rd grade, ds is kgarten) but decided to send DD one from DS and DH and then DS one from DD and I.

Candy and a card, and homemade decorations. My youngest loves Sweethearts and he gets oceans of those after they go on sale.

I don't buy for my kids all year long either, but I don't buy anything for Valentines. We make valentine cookies together. Kids are way over indulged these days. I try to teach my children to appreciate the small simple things in life. Disney is such a major event for us beacause of it.

DH usually buys a card and some chocolates (hopefully See's) :cloud9: for his "girls" me and DD. Last year I got DD the love frog webkinz but after she topped 40 webinz:faint: at Christmas I've put a moritorium on those. I'll probably get her a club penguin card for $6. I always buy the Christmas M&M's after the holidyas when they are on sale and seperate the red and green M&M's. We have red M&M cookies for Valentines day and green M&M cookies for St. Patty's day.:goodvibes

I want to know where Kate got those valentine bags she hung on the chairs on the tv show Jon & Kate plus 8. Those bags were cute!

CLUB PENGUIN CARD!!
Thanks that is a great idea. He has been asking for one and I keep ignoring him on it. That is a neat idea to slip in his card.

Every year I get my kids a big helium balloon, it's funny, too because they always seem surprised to get it :rotfl2:. This year I also got each of them a little plastic heart full of m&m's and I am going to try to make some heart shaped brownies.

I usually buy hershey's kisses or a large foil wrapped kiss at the xmas markdowns- This year I got two large red wrapped kisses that the kids will get with a t-shirt each (last year they got webkins) I bought these for $0.64 at target and several bags of reg xmas kisses about the same cost. I separate them into silver/red kisses for valentine's and green for St Patrick's day. The kids use them with the cards that they hand out to their friends or classmates. Very cost effective and it's been working for years now!

When Target markdowns the valentine's candy I stock up -especially on pink or character wrapped items for the girls' easter baskets!

A little Candy and maybe a DVD or Blue Ray... we dont go over board for V-Day... I did get DH something this year that is a total surprise for him I hope I can keep it a secert from him... it hasnt arrived via UPS yet but I am thinking it will be here soon... :)

I bake either cupcakes or a cake. I've got a heart wreath that I put on the front door.

The kids get a video game in a bag with some candy.

DH gets a heart shaped box and candy. I'm trying to think of something to buy him. Last year I got him a money clip that I had engraved with his initials. He promptly lost it so I'm not too keen on getting him something like that again.

DD(9) will get a Valentines Webkinz Monkey and a Valentine's themed Junie B. Book.

Now I think this is so sweet! :lovestruc

This year they are each getting a pair of disney jammies and a little box of chocolate. I also plan to make chocolate fondue - yummy!
