or in this case it's my dh's boss (works with the wife too)...
I'm stumped on this one...

This year the guys who report to me are getting Rice Krispie treats and a gift card.

Everybody else (including my boss) is getting just the Rice Krispie treats.

We have a very low-key Christmas in my office. Can you tell? :teeth:

Last year I gave my boss a beautiful Cashmere scarf since he spends a lot of time outdoors and was always misplacing his. This year I was planning on a nice pair of gloves, but SO talked me out of it.

It will be two years that I work for this man, and in the two years he has not acknowledged me for my birthday or Christmas with so much as a Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, a card, nothing.

I don't like being petty about it but I really don't have the extra money to spend and this man is a multi millionaire. In our eyes he has drawn the line that exchanging gifts and cards is a no no.

I am here every day. That is my gift to him. :rotfl2:

Seriously, though, I always give him something edible and festive - Christmas cookies, holiday treats - so he and his family can all enjoy them.

My bosses are husband and wife so I get them a restaurant gift certificate.

They are really good to me. She buys Coach bags for my birthday and I get a bonus on Christmas (the only one in the office who gets one). They also paid my full salary for my 3 month maternity leave when I had my daughter.

I like my boss a lot. I got her the same thing I got for all my co-workers--my cousin owns a glass studio and I had her make personalized Christmas ornaments for each of them with their name and the year on them. I also bake up a bunch of goodies to go along with it.

Last year, I handknit scarves for each of them. We keep a $10 limit so you have to be a bit creative but it's fun trying to find something all of them will like.

I'm married to the boss. Please don't feel like you need to get anything. While it is sweet, I know my DH doesn't think it is necessary. We even feel bad sometimes when people spend a lot because we can't afford to gift to his entire staff.

He has 50 some full time employees and 25 or so part-timers. Even though he's the boss we can't afford to buy everyone something. It would be close to $400 if we spent $5 on each person. I'm a SAHM so in addition to our family and friends that we buy for we just can't shell out another $400+ He does cards and all the office decorations but no real gifts.

a few of us chip in & get those big gift food sets from swiss colony catalog.

I prepare a casual brunch. They started in on me last month with..."what are we having." So I guess they like it.

last year the 5 of us got the boss Omaha steaks. Ironically or maybe funny... he got each of us Omaha steaks too! :rotfl:

so this year, we're getting him a GC to his favorite bike shop. We'll have somewhere around $200 bucks worth.

the year before we got our previous boss a GC to his favorite ski shop and he gave us longaberger baskets.

we're giving the big boss (my boss's boss) a bunch of Michigan stuff (big Wolverine fan) from the whole department this year.

I work on a horse farm for a wonderful family. They are very generous to me, all year round. I give them a gift sponsorship of a horse at an equine rescue farm that I have been involved with for many years. It may not seem like much, but it certainly helps the rescue farm that relies on donations and my boss always appreciates getting it (a picture and the story of the sponsored horse are included). I also get her a box of nice chocolates.

I give these sponsorships to several of my friends since everyone seems to have so much these days. They all seem to like it and some have started giving them themselves.

Well we have a new principal and I think most of the teachers are keeping compost heaps in their back yards to give him for Christmas. You might think that is unusual but he is a SWINE!!

WOW I have to say I'm amazed @ the # of people that hate their bosses on here! Must be rough! Actually dh has never HATEd a boss maybe didn't like his job, but always had civil bosses that gave gifts to their employees.

WE LOVE this boss & family & even moved to get closer to this job. So we most surely want to do something.

SO when y'all get together & give a gift card do you ask everyone to give the same amnt of $? Do you figure out how much you want to give & divide that out by # of people & ask for say $5-10 a piece or do you just take what you get & go from there?

My only concern is that there's a ton of kids (college age) that work there & they won't particulary care about giving a gift or may not have the $ to that's why I hesitate to ask the whole staff...

BUt my dh is the #2 man so I feel something needs to be done....BUT WHAT!?!?

I have never gotten a gift from my boss at any job. I guess it kind of amazes me when I think of it but why to we give our bosses a gift? They make more than us, we make them look good and then we get to give them a gift too? I guess that this year especially we are being treated so disrespectfully that we cannot even think in terms of a gift for this man. Parents hate him too! I know the gift I would like to receive from him...but then there are no school systems out there that want him.
