What do you fill stockings with?

The last bit I have left to do for Christmas shopping is my husband's stocking. I don't know why, but I'm hitting such a road block with it this year!!

I have razor blades, a little candy, and a toothbrush so far...barely enough to fill it 1/2 way!

So I'm looking for ideas. We believe stockings should be economical...but I also don't want to just fill it with useles junk.

For DH I do a magazine, chocolate, iTunes gift card, crayons , and a box of nerds.

Santa gives my DS underwear and socks each year. We have done toothbrushes, special bandaids, mini-M&Ms, book, movie, gift card for movies.

Seems like the orange was the big thing..I got that as well.

I never really ate it, so I didn't do that to my kids.

I buy tooth brushes each year, and put them in, they actually ook forward to it.
scratch off tickets, a few gift cards, a travel bottle of asprin (or whatever headache med you use, great to keep in the pocket book or car)
chapsticks, lip gloss, candy, silly stuff for comedy (nothing over a few dollars though)
nail polish, emery boards, nail clippers, pez...this is always a hit too. post it notes, pencils, pens, and hand sanitizers from bath and body.

Santa always brings each person a DVD or CD.
Socks are a big thing for us too.
If your husband wears ties, that might be a good addition.

Little liquor bottles or specialty beer if you drink. If you don't you can do a juice or soda he likes to drink. toiletry items for trip to Disney like travel size ones.

We use a high quality electric toothbrush so to us, toothbrushes fall into the "useless junk" category. Lol I go for quality over quantity and usually end up with maybe 4-5 things to put in my husband's stocking. I never put necessities in there like razors blades, etc...I think that is weird because it is already part of the grocery budget.

This year I'm doing $5 in scratch tickets, a $25 Starbucks gift card (which I got for free through doing surveys), a new beer pint glass, dark chocolate covered espresso beans (yuck! But he loves them!), and his favorite gourmet red licorice. I may also throw in a new paperback book for him. He doesn't like magazines, but a magazine subscription is a great idea for most men and you can find a lot of good subscriptions for under $10.

I never buy items just because they fit in the stocking. That is how a lot of people end up with junk I think. This year everything happens to fit in his stocking but most years I have something sitting right below it or hanging on the side of it.

Some great stocking stuffers are new gloves, wool cap, Smartwool socks, ice scraper, favorite gourmet candy/chocolate/nuts (not just your everyday varieties but fancier brands). Beautiful hair pins are great for women as well as MAC eyeshadow, lipstick/lipgloss, quality nail polish (Zoya etc), shower gel, etc.

I have put nice collar stays in my husband's stocking before and also cuff links. If your husband grills maybe put a fancy gourmet grilling spice blend in there.

Hand warmers (Hubs is a hunter), candy, anything small really. Maybe a video game. His card from the dog as everything in the stocking is *from the dog.* He loves the Pittsburgh Penguins. So, I got him a new travel coffee mug that'll fit, as well as a money clip I picked up from the jewelry store. All *from the dog.*

I could have written this exactly. My husband gets a new flashlight every year, and a small tool or gadget.. candy. Also, for work, every Sept I go somewhere for a week and usually DH does not come with me. so I'll pick up a local product, like a hot sauce, or seasonings etc.. he likes to cook and grill so his stocking usually includes things centered around that. My boys like a particular candy so that's always in thiers , card games, magic tricks, small books. If they need a particular size battery for a toy, that's always in thier stocking as well..usually enough to last most the year. If one year I find something was just a "filler" type thing, then it gets nixed from the list.

Is that the kids fill the parent's stockings. They mostly color pictures, and DD likes to make word searches and crossword puzzles. I take them to the Dollar Tree and they pick out a few things. Then we get some gum and other snacks. They'll make some fun crafts from anything we have around the house. Right now it is Duct tape and Sculpey. Usually we put in an ornament with their picture on it.

My parents were divorced so I always did this for my mom. My kids have done it since they were very little.

So instead of not doing that to your kids, maybe with some explanation, they can appreciate it more and the tradition is carried on....

A fun alternative to the orange in the stocking...try a chocolate orange! That's one thing I am putting in hubby's stocking. Also an ornament since both of us grew up getting an ornament for each year. Otherwise we just get a few silly things from the dollar store.

Some stuff in my son's (16) stocking is : Manicure set, Multi-tool, Chocolate Santa's, $5 McDonalds gc, Stylus set for his Ipad.

Here's what's in my girls' stockings this year:

6 yr old: "chonies" aka underwear (as requested by her haha), Brave Leappad game, M&Ms, toothbrush, mouth wash, bookmark, Junie B. Jones book, AG doll brush and headphones.

2 yr old: chonies (also requested), toothbrush, M&Ms, AG doll brush, color book, Brave movie and headphones.

I think that's it this year. Our standbys are: books, one treat usually.

let's see...for DD15's stocking we have:

-1 package of mini blow pops (holiday flavors-no stick!)
-1 box of holiday skittles (a movie theater pack type box-she LOVES skittles)
-Nintendo DS game
-Box of reeds for her clarinet (this has become a tradition, they usually last until next Christmas)

I know there are a couple of other things, I just can't think of them right now, and I'm at work, so I can't go look in the "stocking stash", lol.
