Do you pack it away? Hide it? Leave it out? What do you do?!

Just wondering what everyone else does . . . . . . . :badpc:

We left ours out on the table with the card reader connected to it. Never had any trouble. That doesn't mean I SHOULD have left it out, probably wasn't the best idea, but I used it every night to download the photos, so I didn't want the hassle of having to set it up each time.

We also left the laptop out and connected the entire time we were there last week. No problems. I have never had any problem with anything coming up missing in our room. I think you should feel comfortable leaving it out if you choose to do so. Best you could do is pack it back into it's case as you can't fit a laptop into most of the safes they provide in the resorts.

OK! I am not alone! I left mine out too and even had my IPOD in it's dock. We stayed at Pop for a week in May and had no problems. :upsidedow

I've left mine out several different trips. I feel pretty confident with Disney's Mousekeeping - Disney doesn't want PR problems like theft - so my guess is they aren't going to take such items.

At DVC, there isn't many times anyone other than you go in the room so I definitely leave it out.

I packed mine away each morning in my backpack. Placed the backpack in the closet. No problems. I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my laptop sitting on a table unsecured. I know myself. I would worry about it all day and not have any fun.

Never took a laptop to WDW, but whene we have taken it on other trips, we have locked it in our suitcase. Not that someone couldn't have taken our suitcase with the laptop in it, but...

I guess I'm just too nervous. I put it in a drawer under a bunch of clothing.

I also put mine under a stack of clothes, usually in one of the larger suitcases. My new laptop will almost fit inside of the wall safe, but the door would not close. :confused3

Leave it at the office..... I'm on vacation.
If I wanted to use my laptop, it would be easier to stay home and work than drag it on vacation. I can always be reached by cell phone if needed. I can also wait a week to read 187 junk e-mails.

We have a lock that we purchased for our laptop. It connects to the laptop and has a cable that we wrap around something in the room. ie. bedframe, arm of chair. Someone could still take it but they would have to drag a bed or chair around with them. :rotfl: It also has a very loud alarm on it.

Lots of trusting people here. Laptops get stolen from hotel rooms all the time. I don't know about Disney but you should take some precautions. Hide it in your suitcase or buy a laptop cable lock.

we used to hide it, but this year we just left it out connected to the highspeed internet.....of course the screen is password protected, so no one can use it....
but we finally decided it was stupid to worry about it being stolen...both of use have everything backed up (we both bring our laptops), so we could just run out and buy a new one and reload all the stuff...
no big deal...
at WDW we always stay onsite....

Thought I would share a true story.

One of our local geniuses stole a laptop out of the county courthouse because he needed bail money. Of course he got caught because he WENT BACK for the power cord.

:rotfl: :rotfl: What a smart guy!! :rotfl: :rotfl: We leave in 2 days and I'm probably going to do what I did last time and leave it out. I'll have to go pick up one of those lock things. What are they called? How much do they run?

Thanks Safetymom! I guess that's why you're named Safetymom! :goodvibes

Kind of OT here but since I am slightly techno challenged I bet all those of you posting on this thread can help with this question. I would like to bring my laptop to connect to the internet to upload photos and place an order for Xmas cards from Disney before I get home so they are waiting when I get there. Currently I connect thru a cable modem at home and do not have an AOL account or other dial up service. How can you get on the internet from the resort? and is there a charge? how much? what kind of cable do ou need. We will be at the CR. Can you tell I don't travel much with it, and when I do it is to a location that I have a set up already? :sunny: Thanks for your help!
