What do you do when you get "the look"

We are just back from a 9 weeks road trip to the West; California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada. Went to 15 national parks and national monuments, seen a lot of wonderful places, including Disneyland-of course! I thought after that I would get a break but no, it is still like we are only go there and nowhere else:confused3

:rotfl2: some people are never happy with how others live their lives.

... Start giving them encrypted answers. "We're going to Africa (Kidani)", "The Boardwalk", "Beach Club"... you know ;)

I suspect folks who ask the "Disney again?" sorts of questions think of it not so much as boring, but as bragging, even when that's not the intent.

In which case the brushing it off casually routine will make them even more irate, because now you're going to Disney again, and it's not even a big deal to you! :upsidedow

People who think it's boring will appreciate the more low-key approach, though. :)

I don't work in an office, so I don't have co-workers to roll their eyes at me. All of our friends know that we are Disney Freaks and don't even bat an eye when we say we are going there. But anyone who did wouldn't hear the end of it of everything there is to do.

Are you going to do a trip report with pictures?

I just go this today. I posted countdown on my Facebook and someone posted "Uhm didn't you just go there last year?" I replies Why yes...yes we did and the year before that as well....I'm failing to see the problem here :)

No I'm sorry, too lazy to do it again with my very poor english. But if you want to see pictures, I made a blog ( in french, sorry) for my mom, so she could see her grandkids everyday!

I was saying it comes up often because it is something we all seem to have in common!:) It is very nice when you talk to someone who gets it and seems to share your enthusiasm, the trick is finding that person!
This is true, and I've used this commonality to induce an "ah-ha" moment at work. Many of the ladies at my last company really enjoy the Twilight book series and many were just hysterical over the movies. These are the kind of girls that are nice, but would have chastised me about my love of Star Wars back in the day...or maybe even now :lmao:. Anyway, I would catch them acting hysterical while chatting about the countdown to the next movie premier, and I would interject something like, "now you know how I feel about Star Wars and Disney". They usually paused to think about it and I never caught grief for my "childish" enjoyment :cool1: :thumbsup2

ETA: Along the lines with BeesKnees, if someone wanted to get into a pissing contest about reality vs fantasy, I would start ticking off the countries I visited in the Navy and my time in Afghanistan. That usually shuts people up pretty quick. :)

This is a good point, which is why I'm careful about discussing the frequency of our trips with co-workers. I grew up without taking vacations (a trip to grandma's house was about it), and Disney was always a dream vacation. To many, it is a lifetime event, and sometimes I feel pretentious, since we slap down $2,000 per year to do something many people don't think they can afford.

Some people would be bored to visit a single vacation destination so often.
I was talking about the "I'm going to Disney again" conversation, not the actual fact of going.

I loved looking at the pictures in your blog even though I don't read/speak French. We have been to many of the places you photographed, so it was extra nice because they brought back memories of our own trips.

I have never talked to anyone who has gotten irate over my vacation destination. And if I ever did, it would be the last conversation I'd ever have with that person of any sort of personal nature.

Thank you. It was a wonderful trip. A little challenge with a baby but worth every minute.

And it was there we bought our DVC!

My sister and her husband called us "Disney Dorks" and said they can't understand why we choose Disney every time. That was until they had their twin daughters who are now 5 yrs. and little princessesprincess:princess:. Now they go to disneyland 2 times a year and DW when they can. IMO most people who say, "why again" have not done Disney World... or, have not done it the way we do... on property, with dining plan or a lot of really great ADR's.

My answer is really easy, I blame it on the kids!! I just say, "It's an easy vacation with kids. They love it, so we do it for them, and it makes us happy to see them having such a great time." Smile while thinking; (aren't we great parents).

Now...what will I say when the kids grow up? :rotfl2: I don't know yet, but I'm lucky because I have a few more years to think about it.

Love this one; my youngest is 20 months. So many years of good excuses!;)

Well, wear it as a badge of honor because you're not alone! From a marketing stand point, I can see Disney Dorks on hats, t-shirts etc.! ;)

I love Disney, I love my DVC but it's not the only place I vacation, though admitedly I do go there quite frequently!

To many, it is a lifetime event, and sometimes I feel pretentious, since we slap down $2,000 per year to do something many people don't think they can afford.

We usually host family reunions because we have a good layout for parties and we can afford to take care of the food. Many who attend have never been to Disney at all because they can't afford it so we are careful to stop the TVs that automatically go into slideshow mode when idle that show thousands of disney pictures.

My wife and I had some really lean times at the beginning of our marriage so I refuse to feel guilty for working really hard to go from a have not to somewhat of a have but I don't want anyone to feel bad.

The main reason I don't discuss it though is because going to Disney is a very ordinary thing done by millions of people a year. Even being a DVC member is hardly unique anymore. So unless you are on dis or find someone who is dis-like I see no reason to talk about it.

I am known as the Mickey Mouse teacher. My classroom has a Mickey Mouse theme.

Many people ask us how often we go. If they don't ask, I don't volunteer. It's just what we do.

I'm personally surprised at how many people ask me why I go to Disney as often as I do. (It's generally known around the office that it's my usual vacation destination.)

There are others in the office who cruise on a very regular basis and no one thinks twice about it.

When asked, now, I draw the parallels to that. I tell them about the world-class restaurants; how there are so many that, even after all the trips we've taken, we still haven't tried them all. The resorts are beautiful, comfortable, and have lots of pools, recreation, and activities. We enjoy relaxing at the pool, especially those that are themed.

I tell them that, while I enjoy those things, WDW isn't all about Mickey Mouse, theme parks, and rollercoasters. It's not just a family-with-kids destination.

Since we bought into DVC, it really does seem like people understand it more when you say you have a timeshare.

We don't have kids, so that's one thing that makes people question a bit more, I think. But when my wife's co-worker went at the end of last year for a large family trip with her new huband and in-laws, she came back and immediately went to my wife and said "I understand now."
