What do you do if it rains while your in WDW?

I bring an umbrella, as I hate ponchos, and go to the park as usual. Usually Epcot. Then if the bottom falls out I can hide in Rose & Crown or La Cava.

Some rides that are outdoors, like Test Track, will shut down if it rains.

I buy a Disney Poncho and throw it on, then re-use it as neccesary. It rains only for a short period of time mostly - as with all weather you cant say for definite, but I have never experienced rain for more than 3hours. (and even that was showery type rain.)

Obviously there will be exceptions to the rule, just take a poncho in case it pours down.

I like the rain myself. Hailing from England, rain means hypothermia but in florida it is so warm I need the rain to cool off (its like getting a shower lol.)

For the most part we just slap on our poncho or rain coats and go for it. However in big downpours and thunderstorms, we usually find a place to hang out until it lets up.

Skip the poncho.... all that does is make you sweat! I would rather brave the rain!

Enjoy, you are at WDW!!:thumbsup2

IF the odds are good that its going to rain that day (60% or higher) we put on the crocs, bust out the ponchos and gleefully play in the rain and the puddles while all the fairweather park goers stream out to the bus terminals like lemmings to the sea.

Seriously we pray for rain. The parks empty out for the most part which makes it much nicer for the die hard Dis'ers. Go enjoy WDW in the rain, you'll be glad you did.

I can't stand ponchos, just make sure if you are female you aren't wearing a white shirt and brave the rain! Sometimes I'll have a hoodie with me just to keep a little dry but overall we just brave it out.

We were there May '09, for those of you that know what I'm talking about, I highly doubt it will ever be worse than that and we still had a great time!

If you are very concerned about the rain and want to stay as dry as possible, you might want to invest in a pair of Frogg Toggs. They are very lightweight, easily packed, and will keep you bone dry. Plus they breath very well, and you won't get soaked with sweat. My wife and I keep our sets in a vaccuum sealed pack in our park bag so as not to take up space. In the event of rain, we find a quick shelter, throw them on, and "just keep swimming."
Something else to consider is shoes. No one likes to walk around with wet shoes and socks. Something we do is pack a pair of Croc's Beach shoes with our Toggs. That way when the rain is over, we just put dry shoes and socks on. You can also buy shoes that are GoreTex (pricey) that will keep your feet dry. I have a pair of New Balance Trail shoes that are super comfortable that work very well. Went last year during the week before Christmas. Rained everyday (or so it seemed!), and my feet stayed dry! There is a North Face Outlet in Orlando, and you can pick up a GOOD pair of outdoor gore tex shoes for about 1/3 - 1/2 what you would normally pay! As for the Frogg Toggs the best places I have found have been Ebay, Academy Sports, and Bass Pro Shops.
Don't let the rain keep you away!! Rainy days are some of the best times to visit the parks, as the crowds typically dwindle, and you can do and see a lot more than on days with no rain.

Put on a poncho. Or get wet!

Seriously--just go with it. Some of our best memories are of being wet/soaked--like the deluge when DD and grandma were on Dumbo (and the new outfits we had to buy them afterward). Or splashing through puddles in a near-empty MK on July 3; riding the Barnstormer with rain pelting our faces....

ETA: waterproof shoes. We all wear Keens. They can get wet, dry quickly, and you won't slip around in them like flip flops or Crocs.

I actually like the rain because for some reason, it scares people away. I just keep on going and enjoying my vacation...while also enjoying smaller crowds. :thumbsup2

I can't find the pictures on my computer (must still be on a memory card), but we very much enjoyed the "Rainy Day Parade" at MK when we were there in 2010. In fact, I talked to a couple CMs who appeared out of nowhere to come watch it because they had never seen it before.:laughing: Our ponchos and water proof shoes were our most worn attire for that trip! We had an awesome time and the crowds were pretty thin much of our vacation because the rain really was a constant. I think we had one day of sun. It didn't take away from our magical vacation at all! :wizard:

It rains pretty often there so I usually just wait it out while in the parks...Most of the time it doesn't last that long and a lot of people run and hide from the rain and the lines get shorter. If it's raining literally all day, I usually go to DTD and go see a movie.

During our first trip to Disney World in 2006, we went at the same time that Tropical Storm Alberto hit. It was raining and raining and raining. No lightning but we had the best time playing in the rushing water on mainstreet at the magic kingdom. We did use ponchos and we have been several times in the rain.

During our March 2011 trip there was a terrible thunderstorm/tornado episode. We have been to WDW so many times that because there was lightning, we stayed at the Boardwalk and rested all day. It was only one day and we wanted to be safe because of the lightning. We were on Vacation after all, I enjoyed the day of rest. :thumbsup2

:goodvibes

We went one year in August when a tropical storm hit..I think it was in 2008. It rained all day, every day of the 5 days we were there. Outside of WDW, the rest of Orlando was flooded, schools were closed, people had to leave their houses..but in WDW, things were still running normally.

We wore ponchos at first but after awhile they just got in the way, we were getting wet no matter what, so we abandoned them and just took the rain as it came.
Most everything was still open, lines were short. A lot of people, it seemed were afraid of the rain and stayed at the hotels. :confused3 We paid thousands of dollars to have a good time and rain wasnt going to stop it.
I have to say though, that the parades still went on but they seemed to be going a lot faster..:rotfl2:

During one of our trips we got some really nasty storms one evening. The rain evenutally stopped for the most part so we took our umbrellas and headed over to Epcot to watch Illuminations. Even though the storms had stopped in the immediate area we could still see the lightining amongs the dark clouds out in the distance during the show. It really added and extra something to the show!

I get wet. I don't even bother with the poncho most of the time in the summer. I love when it rains at Disney because it empties the park and I really don't care about getting wet.

Same here. We don't do ponchos because we just sweat and feel hot and sticky while wearing them. We just get wet and go on with our day. Two times ago we were there during a tropical storm. It downpoured non-stop for three or four days, but we still had a blast, and the parks weren't as crowded.

Like someone else said, a sopping wet day at Disney is still better than a day at home at work :worship:

... check out Disney Quest, especially if you have little ones. You can spend a few hours in there checking out all the games and they even have a place in there to grab a bite so you don't even have to go outside! ...!
Don't do this! It'll be mobbed and you won't be able to do much!

Do Disney Quest mid-morning on a weekday when the sun is out.

if it rains we tour the parks as normal. Never understood why people were so afraid of rain? :confused3:confused3 you won't melt or anything :rolleyes1

If it's raining, we use ponchos and enjoy the lower crowds at the parks. We don't go into the pools but many of the rides and attractions that we like are indoors anyway.:surfweb:
