What do you do for pink eye?

If you send a kid to school with this around here, they call you like the kid has the bubonic plague! My son gets allergic cojunctivitis frequently and it's not catchy but the school FREAKS!

Once time I was told to use Johnson's Baby Shampoo on a q-tip and run it around the eye lid - you know where the eye lashes grow. Your eye will start tearing, then wash it out with warm water. This disrupts the germs and can jumpstart the process of getting rid of it. It actually did seem to help but then again maybe this was just a mild case for me....
Good luck!

They freak out around here, too. My kids had a viral form of conjunctivitis. There was no crustiness, just redness, and they sent them home from school. I ended up getting antibiotic ointment just so they could go back to school the next day.

No kidding! My daughter had a clogged tear duct...looked like conjunctivitis, and the school wouldn't let her back in without a doctor's note saying she was on antibiotics. He wasn't about to put her on them, and downright lied. She tends towards this problem, and I suspect it will continue ot be an issue!

Also, an old time remedy works well to relieve some of the worst symptoms. Boric Acid eyewash. You can make it yourself. They should sell Boric Acid powder at your pharmacy. Mix it with distilled water and bring to a boil. Let it cool to room temp before using as an eyewash. Proportional/mixing directions should be on the container, if it is the type Boric Acid crystals pure enough for eyewash.

Hannah had a blocked tear duct at birth. At 9 months we had it "probed" which required general anesthesia (because she was so small). The procedure was very simple and short. My daughter was treated by a pediatric opthalmologist.
