What do you cook in your room for dinner? (and grill question too)

On our trip to BWV this past May we had pasta w'red sauce and those pre cooked frozen meatballs. Serve with a pre-mixed salad w' dressing of your choice and you've got a tasty, easy to make dinner, that will be the cheapest meal you have on property. Even had Strawberry shortcake w/ whipped cream for dessert. Probably cost less than $25 for the whole meal for 5 adults. Bon appetit! :)

They have kitchens in the 1 berdrooms? I was windering what that area was for  :smooth: ::yes::

We sometimes just order in Pizza. The oven is real handy for re heating LOL

Stouffer's frozen lasagna has been a favorite of ours for the last several trips. I add a bag salad and breadsticks, and some type of fruit. For our upcoming trip, my son says he would rather have spaghetti and Ragu sauce(yeah, right out of a jar!), so that should be even easier. I think hot dogs would be very easy. You could bring along some frozen homemade chili from home, or just use some kind out of a can. Baked beans and coleslaw or corn-on-the-cob would be good with hot dogs. (My youngest won't eat a hot dog, so we rarely have them). My family likes the "Supper Bakes" by Campbell's(box dinner...just add chicken breasts and bake), and I pair this with some canned or frozen vegetables for a quick dinner. When my daughters were younger, they had dance class 3 times a week...so we had Hamburger Helper 3 times a week(Betty Crocker was my BEST friend!). Again, add a salad and/or vegetables, and you have a quick, easy dinner. For us, it has to be quick and easy, because the cook is on vacation, too! I used to bring practically everything with me to cook, but now I go to the Winn Dixie nearest Disney the day we check-in. I make a menu and a list of what I will need, and just pick up most things there.

When we went do in July, we had friends of ours from Bradenton, Fl stay with us (gave them the points to stay for 2 nights in a 1 br at BWV). They love my wife's homemade marinara sauce. So we went to Publix bought all the ingredients and a few bottles of wine and cooked a delicious pasta dinner for the 6 of us. The smell lingered down the halls. The couple in the room next door thought we brought food in from one of the restaurants!!!
I told them I would only charge them $15.00 a plate!!!

It's fun to cook in the room. If only my wife wasn't always reminding me she's on vacation!!!

I'm a pretty good cook and she still wants to eat out.. Go figure..

Another Paula DVC'er in CT!! How exciting! DD is 5 and DS is 2. I've done spaghetti and sauce in the room, as well mac & cheese and homemade pizzas. I hate to cook on vacation, but it gets expensive to take the kids out at night and then they don't eat anything anyway. Sometimes I make mac & cheese or other "kid" food in the room for the kids, and when they're in bed asleep, DH runs out and gets us something yummy to enjoy in peace! I'm also a huge fan of breakfast foods for dinner - eggs are super easy, and so are frozen waffles. Can you tell I hate to cook?:D

We are always driving to OKW. WE stop at Publix and buy one of their prepared entrees, a baking potato, wine and dessert. The entrees are usually very good with four of five to pick from. Arriving at 4 to 5PM, it gives us a chance to check in, relax after we unload, drink a martini or two and rejoice that we are at OKW again. And we don't have the hassel of going down to Olivia's. Works great for us. Of course we are empty nesters and have no kiddos to entertain. And oh yes, a bottle of wine.

Steaks and real smashed garlic potatoes and fresh beans almondine.
London Broil with garlic roasted veggies
Cavetelli with sausage and red pepper/roasted garlic sauce and garlic bread.
Boneless chicken breasts with garlic cream sauce, wild rice, fresh corn and corn bread.
Stir Fry Beef/Chicken/Pork with veggies and broken rice.
Garlic Soup.

We've also done many of the don't think about it meals already mentioned. Depends on our mood.

Yummy.... I'm going on vacation with you next time!

It is great cold with horseradish and that is typically how I serve it as an appetizer.

Flank Steak or two.
1 Bottle A1
1 Bottle Worcestershire Sauce
1 Bottle Ken’s low fat Caesar’s Salad dressing (low fat has less oil and so it flairs up less on the grill)
1 (or more) table spoons Garlic powder
½ to 1 cup Grated Romano cheese

A day or two before you are going to cook put every thing in a big zip lock bag. Put in the refrigerator. When ever you go in the frig squish things around.

Fire up the grill and let it get hot. Pour the marinade off the meat and into a pan on the stove. Turn on the heat and boil the marinade. You are going to use this as a sauce and you have to kill any bacteria from the raw meat. Stir regularly to keep from burning.

Grill the steak. Take it off well before it is the level of “done” you like. It keeps cooking when you take it off and it is our opinion that rare for this dish is better. Your mileage may vary.

Don’t forget to stir the sauce.

Take the steak of and let it rest a few minutes. This lets it cool and the juices are drawn back into the meat. (Leaned that on the food channel.)

The sauce should be save now, turn off the heat.

Carve thin slices across the grain.

Serve with the sauce.

---- or -----

Put it some back into the sauce and into the refrigerator. Roll the slices up around a dab of nice hot horse radish. I hold them rolled up with a tooth pick. Serve as and appetizer. Typically I present them in a fry pan rolled up like sushi, sitting in the sauce. Although for a more formal dinner party I have served them as strips on a few pieces of Romaine lettuce garnished with onion, red peppers and dressed with the sauce.

Of course if you make two you can do both.

Heh...lots of times vacation is the only time I can cook. Thankfully we're not park commando's and we eat out at home a lot. Thankfully, Philadelphia has great restaurants.

Paula, why was it a hassle?

We were at the furthest point from the grills, it took us about 30 minutes to get everything to the grill (food, charcoal, utensils, plates, etc. etc.) and then the weather got COLD. So by the time we ate our food was COLD bc we had to carry Everything back up (and clean up the grill)

If the rooms were closer (or if we had been on the 1st floor) it probably would have been ok.

Live and learn right? LOL.

I just started cooking out of Rachel Ray's cookbooks.

I love Rachel Ray. I hope I get a cookbook for Christmas!

Some of these items sound pretty good, jmminarik at this point takes first place. Crock pot meals fine. Quick and easy pasta or tacos OK. But others.... frozen dinners , potatoes as an entree??? Ummmm.. no thanks.
