What do you buy at your "grocery stop"?

We'll be getting to POR via Tiffany Towncar and want to make the most of my stop at the grocery store. Any suggestions for my shopping list?

soda pop-- for the fridge at the hotel
chocolate -- so it didn't melt on the trip down
fruit
bread
cereal bars for snacking

We ALWAYS eat breakfast in the room before we go to the parks. It saves time, the kids actually eat it and it saves a lot of money. We get cereal, milk, bananas and other fruit.

Peanut butter, bread and jelly are staples for us. I always bring juice boxes (100% juice) from home because I get really good deals on it there.

If you have a fridge in the room, don't forget mickey mouse ear icecream bars and/or haagen dazs bars. Almost any ice cream treat is waaaay cheaper this way than in the parks.

Oh...and the key lime pies at Publix are exactly the same that Disney resaurants serve...only you get the whole pie for about $6.50 instead of a slice and 1/2!

Raisins and/or nuts are another easy pack along to the parks and are better for you than all the processed sugar.

Milk, juice, if you have a fridge. Cereal, cookies, fruit, crackers. And grown up beverages too. LOL.

We buy a cooler, ziplock baggies, cream cheese, bagels, soda, bottled water, snacks, cereal, milk and anything else that might catch our eye.

We just got back yesterday from a week at Days Suites. We stopped once at Publix and once at Goodings. Our shopping consisted of milk, orange juice, cereal (we always eat breakfast in the room), soda, granola bars and Pop-Tarts. We had brought several other things with us from home, though not nearly as much as usual since we flew this time. When we drive, we pack far more.

I was wondering the same thing! I usually pack food in our luggage (we fly) so i have extra room on the way home for all the gifts and souvin"ears" i buy . This will be our first trip with a grocery stop, mainly to buy adult beverages , and maybe some water bottles.

I just stop for water, soda, milk, adult beverages , cheese slices, bread and fruit. I pack all non-perishables so that I don't have to worry ablout forgetting anything. About four months before we go I start taking advantage of BOGO's with coupons and stash them for the trip. A word of caution when doing this however, check expiration dates some major chains do the BOGO and there is only a month left before the items last sell by date.

For nonperishables, we shipped them to the resort ahead of time. On the grocery stop. picked up fresh fruit (apples, oranges, grapes), we only got bananas for a a couple of days since they are not quite as "durable" and continue to ripen, also packaged, ready to eat baby carrots or carrot sticks and celery, milk, orange juice, yogurt, string cheese, deli meat for sandwiches (we had sent shelf stable pocket bread ahead of time, so didn't buy bread)

I'm planning on stopping I guess it will be Publix for some bottled water... Can I get a styrofoam cooler there? and how much do they cost?

I figured I'd bring the peanut butter, and get bread at the store. I'll pack some snacks so I'll only have to pick up a few things at the store.

Styrafoam coolers are around $5.00.

We always pick up bottled water, bagels and a few snacks.

Thanks Muffy~ I figured it would be easier to pick up a styrofoam cooler there, than to have to check it on the plane, who knows what condition it would arrive it if I couldn't find a box for it to fit in.

On our first and only trip (with the second coming in 2003) we bought a lot of breakfast stuff since the kids were younger plus we didn't really want to eat breakfast out that much. So we purchased things like doughnuts, juice, milk, granola bars, pop-tarts, some munchie stuff like crackers, Sun Chips, water, etc. And of course, in which I will come right out and say it, BEER...for a nice way to unwind after a day at the parks.

We've been using Atlantis Towncar and they stop at Albertsons Supermarket, large, huge selection from drugstore type stuff to deli, good prices too.
Atlantis lets you fax or e-mail your order ahead of time and they will have your groceries bagged and totaled for you .
Great time-saver and while my DH is paying for the pre-order,
I can always pick-up anything I may have forgotten.
It's a great time saver and curbs those "impulse" over-buying of snack foods , that we usually end up leaving for housekeeping anyway.
I actually know the layout of this store almost as well as my home store, LOL ,so I wouldn't waste much time finding things, BUT I just want to get to WDW and get on with our vacation!!

2 -Six packs of canned Classic Coke Caffeine Free
6 Large Bottles of Perrier (Lemon)
12 Small 6-8oz. Bottles of Bottled water

6 cans of Seltzer - Vintage Brand? Lemon-lime

1 Roll Viva Paper Towels
1 pkg. of 8 oz. Plastic cups

1 Lg. Bag of Wise Potato Chips
1 Bag Rold Gold Pretzel Sticks
1 box NutriGrain Granola Bars
6 Yoplait Brand Whipped yogurt asst.flav.

and I'll probably pick up some fruit there and take some carry-on snacks with me for the plane(Especially GUM for my ears!).

I am also using Tiffany town car and would like to stop at the store.

When do I do this?
Shoud I wait until I get there or should I make arrangments ahead of time?

Also, how do I go about getting a frig in my room and how much do they usually cost?

Just a few questions?????

Hi,

Definitely call your TC service ahead of time( a day or two before also confirming your reservation) and let them know you want to do a full grocery stop .
On our first trip w/ another service with a planned grocery stop ,the driver tried to take us to a 7-11.
We told him we prefered a supermarket as we could not get everything we needed there and did not want to pay convienence store prices.( He grudgingly did so) They really do need to know,I think, so they can allow time for other airport pick-ups.
So double -check WHERE the stop will be also.

As far as the Frig.
Here's info from our TC service:
"If you need a fridge while you are visiting let us know. We deliver the units to your resort and leave them with the bell staff, we will call in the tag number and when you arrive you just call them and ask for it to be brought up to your room. On check out you simply advise the bell staff that we will be picking the fridge up from them.

The cost is $6 p/day for the size that WDW offers (1.7 cubic footer, a small cube in shape), and $8 for the 4.4 cubic footer (this is large and is a proper fridge). And also a limited number of Microwave’s @ $4.95 per day. There is an additional one -time $10 delivery/pickup fee and tax. This will be charged to your credit card. "

WE have done this on our longer(10-12 days) stays (with more groceries to refrigerate)at the Moderate Resorts, and it worked fine.
Last I heard WDW had raised the price for the mini-frig from $6. a day to $10. I'm not sure if it went up again.
someone else will know here. I'm sure.
These are very small and,if you're planning on using the freezer to freeze water bottles, frozen foods or icecream ,we found they were not cold enough to do the job.
As a protest of sorts against the raised prices
for OLD frigs. at WDW Resorts, LOL,
we have also brought a lg. collapsible cooler (Folds flat)in our luggage and lots of gallon size Zip-Lock bags with us.
The zip-lock bags are great because as the ice melts, the water is contained in the bag and everythings not a soaking mess.
WE would just fill these ziplock bags from the ice machines each morning and at night(make sure they are the ones w/ the Slide -over clip on top)
We kept the cooler in the bathtub.
You can also just buy a styrofoam cooler at the Grocery stop and leave it behind.
OR as we've done a few times w/ leftover unopened snacks and fruit, looked for a family w/ kids checking in when we were checking out and offered it all to them. They were very appreciative .
Where are you staying?
I'm not sure about the Deluxes, but at the Dolphin on our last trip we were able to empty out their mini bar frig. and put our stuff in.

Hope this helps you and others- That ten dollars a night can buy a nice dinner or many snacks!
Plus avoid all that tipping for delivery of frig. to your room!!!LOL

On our last trip we bought a Styrofoam cooler (very cheap), a bag of ice, pop, juice, jelly, lunch meat and cheese, fresh fruit and milk. I also brought quite a few snack foods from home and cereal.

We've also rented the fridge from our resort. That was nice because it has a little freezer, just big enough to freeze waterbottles in.

Oh yeah....our tradition is to buy a big bag of M&M's. A nice treat after a LONG day at the parks!

Any suggestion where I can buy a collapsible cooler before I leave? I think packing the cooler is a great idea, as well as the baggies full of ice!
