What do with a few spare DVC points?

Planning to do something different from the norm with our DVC points next year, meaning we'll likely have between 2-4 spare that will have already been banked from the previous year, and we won't be using.

What do people generally do with these small amounts of spare points?

You could give them (transfer them) to another owner… The one & only time we were left with any points that we couldn't use we had enough to book a couple of nights at AKV so we booked a ressie for my BIL & SIL to go use them. But if I only had 2-4 which isn't enough for even 1 night anywhere I would just ask around & see if they might help someone else out. I'm sure there are people who may be 2 or 3 points short of being able to book another night that could use them….

If you're staying at a DVC resort, could you buy the one time use points at the 7 month mark and get an extra day for your vacation?

We could've potentially, but restricted now by flights that have already been confirmed...

I would transfer them to someone for a small amount ($10-13?). The one time use points are $15, so it's a saving even if it's 2-4points. Enjoy!

Where can I advertise them for transfer? On these boards?

Ah! Thanks for pointing this out!
Haven't banked yet, so will bear that in mind!

I've got a curious question.....other than transfer, is there a way a room reservation can be made with 2 different contracts? Meaning 4 points from the OP and the rest from someone else without a points transfer involved? If not, is it possible they might waive the one transfer per use year rule with such a small transfer of points?

I knew someone with 2 points that went to waste before and I would have taken them but I had already had a transfer in of points that year. Also, my neighbor owes me some points for the trip we just returned from. Since December is so hard to get anywhere but your home resort, i had made a ressie for him at my resort.....and he owes me the points from his account. We are always in borrow mode so 2-4 would always get used by me....but I wouldn't use up a transfer on 2-4 points.

Nope. That's kind of the exact reason the transfer rule was put in place; to discourage frequent, small transfers.

I bought in after all these rules were in place, so I really don't know the history of why they came to be. I figured it had to do with the renting business out there and to help stem the flow of rental points. I guess I figured a transfer that small was no risk for renting but maybe that's the exact opposite. You get 50 transfers of 2-4 points and there's a rental.

What about the 2nd question....possible for someone to use say 4 points from the OP account and then the rest with their own points without a transfer occurring?

if you have a late outgoing flight, I would suggest borrowing from your next UY points and booking an additional night (same resort, same type villa - if available) - we've done just that, & enjoyed not being "homeless" from 11am checkout until our 5:30pm DME p/u. of course, that's best if your already booked villa is a lower point unit.
you could also buy 1x use points (or transfer in, tho doubtful another DVCer would want to use their 1x UY transfer on such a small amount), but with the same caveats as above.
:)
