I am NOT a cat person, 1 of my 3 dogs goes crazy seeing a cat much less if one was to enter the house god forbid what would happen to a cat then. But we have been in our new house for a month now, and only the past 2 nights we have had the same cat "visiting" us.

Wednesday night we were watching tv and my wife and son heard a cat meow and both told me to stop messing with the dog (i do that all the time so couldnt blame them), i didnt hear it and was like hmm what are you talking about, then again this time I heard it turned to front door and there is a cat sitting on porch looking in.

So I go outside, to see if it would run away when i open door, NOPE! it started rubbing against my leg purring and wanting to be scratched and held. It's obviously a people friendly cat So im like fine let me see if there is a collar because it looks like a well groom and not unhealthy cat, so i pick it up, no collar nothing. I put it down thinking maybe its a neighbors it will go home. again NOPE! stayed outside for 2 hours.

finally went to bed woke up thursday it was gone. thursday night this time a little earlier same meow same front door same things, petting ourring this time playing more even rolling in our grass and pawing (playfully) at me and my son. this time my wife comes outside and it goes to her too. we ask neighbor noone claims its thiers, we leave it to be hopefully it will go home........woke up this morning, it was under my car wagging its tail.......UGH!

Again we are not cat people, and even if we were we could not take it in as 1 of our dogs hates cats, but on the other hand, its clean, feed and people friendly so it belongs to someone and I dont want to see it get hurt lost, hit by a car etc because maybe its owners are out of town or whatever. DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

p.s. we checked craigslist pets and lost and found lastnight and nothing matcing the description what so ever

Take it to the Humane Society! If it's very friendly, they'll probably be able to place it with a new owner, if they can't find the original owner.

My orange cat showed up at the door like this - he was hungry and searching for somebody to take him in. We think he'd been recently abandoned and wasn't prepared to live outside.

this is what im fearing too, and hope im wrong

I'm having the same problem. My neighbor recently decided to make her indoor cats, outside cats. I found that out from another neighbor. One of the cats is really friendly. It spends the day on our pool deck, front porch, driveway, underneath the palms, etc. If anyone saw this cat, they would think it belongs to us. My kids have fed and given it water. They insist that the cat must be dehydrated because it's so hot outside. It has been very hot. When I go outside, the cat wants to come in. If it gets in our patio, it comes to the door and meows. When I pull in my driveway, it follows me to the front door. The cat just wants in the house.

:confused3:confused3

We have many cats that have just shown up at our house and they just keep hanging around as long as I keep food for them. Some I feed in the back yard, and they stay back there and some at the carport. They are just looking for someone to take time with them and feed them.

If you want to confirm your suspicions about it being originally an inside cat, put your dogs in a bedroom or bathroom where they can't get out and take the cat in the front door. You will know right away if it's use to being inside. We have some that will freak out if you take them inside. :scared1: They are originally outside cats and don't have any desire to go inside.

If you are not worried about the cat's well-being, but just want it to go away, spray some citrus-scented cleanser around. Cats tend to hate the smell of citrus.

It might be a stray, or it might not. Some indoor/outdoor cats like to try to adopt a "second family" to try to get fed twice and/or get into air conditioning when it is hot out and their owner is not home. Since it is very well-groomed and not skittish of people, I'd guess that it has an owner somewhere who might be wondering where it is.

A couple of years ago my (normally indoor, but REALLY likes going outside) cat had gotten out without my knowledge. That evening I got a call from a woman about 5 blocks away who read his collar tag: she found him sleeping in her living room. They had a door or window open, and he just wandered in and made himself at home.

If you bring him to a shelter or vet, they can scan him to see if he has a chip. I found a cat, and he had a microchip, so we got his owners name, address & phone number from it. I had placed adds all over the place, this lady was older and had not seen any of my adds. The kitty is back home with his fam.

If you call local vets, you can give them a description, most keep a lost and found kitty log book.

Any chance the cat belongs to the previous owners? Could you contact them?

im fairly certain it wasnt from previous owner because for 1 we have been here a month now and its only been past 2 nigts, and they were out of house at least a month if not longer prior to us moving in, as well as they were dog people too as we talked about that at signing.

i like the vet idea and chip. if it comes around maybe I will take it in for the night as I have to take 1 of our dogs to the vet tomorrow afternoon anyway.

Don't feed it and don't pet it and hopefully it will find somewhere else to go. I hope the vet helps you find who it belongs to.

Cats hate coffee grounds I've been told and it seemed to help ward off a neighbors cat that was peeing in my bushes. He was marking his territory and that included the entire street apparently!

we have a mama cat, the daddy cat, and 4 kittens hanging around..they don't belong to anyone..I had 3 of my own (2 recently died), and I still have the third (she was a stray that wandered into my yard also..but she was so beautiful and friendly (and neutered) that I kept her..these others don't seem friendly..the kittens run and hide..the mama hisses at me if I get near..and the daddy cat runs away..I sure can't afford to take 6 cats in..can't afford to feed them, can't afford to have them all neutered..and around here all the no kill shelters are full..and the animal control shelter puts most of them to sleep..any other suggestions?

Even though they are dog people - we prefer dogs to cats, but have had both at the same time - don't count out that it could be theirs.

When my SIL and BIL moved, their cat Squirrel kept getting out of the new house. 15 miles away, crossing a very busy highway, she went very time she got out and showed up at the old house. Our neices weren't very good at watching to make sure she didn't bolt as they went in and out the door.

After the 3rd time of her showing up at the old house, the new tenants would call and let SIL/BIL know that the cat has shown up. They would go get her - she was always curled up on "her" spot on the front porch.

In an attempt to keep her alive, DH and I took her in when we shared an apartment. She lived with us for 2 years. When we moved, we couldn't have a cat, so she went back to SIL/BIL. Within a week of being there, she got out and later that night, they got the call that Squirrel was at the old farm house.

SIL and the wife of the family living at their old place talked. She was fine with Squirrel living with them, if it was ok with SIL. Squirrel spent the last 16 years of her life sitting in "her" spot on that front porch "her" home.

As someone who has had a cat disappear for 10 days recently, I know I'd sure appreciate your efforts to find the owners. Please keep checking Craigslist and have the cat checked for a chip. If the cat has owners, they are probably worried to death. You are obviously a very kind person to seek a solution.:thumbsup2

That's how we got our new cat -- he was living in the bushes outside DD's BFF's house. BFF and her family couldn't keep it because of allergy issues. DH and I most emphatically did not want another cat, but we allowed it to spend a couple of nights in our garage. It had obviously belonged to someone at some point, because it had a ring around its neck from wearing a collar.

We notified the local police that we had found a cat and they promised to send the owners our way if anyone came looking for a cat. We checked with the local vets and no one had reported a lost cat. Next thing I knew, it had a litter box, a bed and food bowls in the garage (we lost one of our two cats last summer, so we had extras of everything). Then it got a name "Rusty". By this time DH and I could see the writing on the wall. We took him to our vet and found out he's only 10 months old and no microchip, so we had him neutered and now he's ours.

He's a cutie -- he wants to play with our older cat but she doesn't want any part of it. When she hisses at him, he immediately lays down on his side to let her know he doesn't mean any harm. Our dog (a German shepherd mix) still hasn't figured out that he's bigger than they are so whenever Rusty enters the room, the dog tries to climb into my lap. So far, although they aren't all buddy-buddy, no one's drawn blood or gotten hurt.
