We always make a batch of Reindeer food, especially for Santa's reindeer.. We mix quick oats (dry) with some glitter (to help them see it), and sprinkle it all over the yard. What the reindeer don't eat, the birds and squirrels are welcome to! Sometimes DD leaves a few baby carrots with Santa's cookies
I usually left either carrots or sugarcubes (our horses liked sugarcubes, so why wouldn't reindeer?). They normally were put on their own individual napkins with their names written on them.
Reindeer food of course! We just made a batch for the kids at preschool today! The ingredients are 1/4 cup oatmeal, 3 shakes of multi-colored sprinkles and a spoon full of red or green sugar and 9 pieces of candy corn left over from Halloween.
We've been putting this out for years and Santa hasn't missed us yet.
We leave carrots out with Santa's cookies, and also put the magic reindeer food on the lawn, so the smell of the oats and the glimmer of the magic crystals help guide the reindeer to our house.
We don't use glitter, though, we use sugar crystals, as it's better for the tummies of the reindeer, as well as any birds, squirrels or bunnies who might sneak a taste.
We leave cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer on a little plate stand by the fireplace. I think the stand is a skating snowman with his arm up in the air holding the plate. We set it on the floor.....I wouldn't advise this for those with pets!
Add us to the hidden glitter - and I think leaving a beer for Santa is a good idea - but since so many others are having beer - maybe we'll leave a glass of scotch!!
Thanks for the sugar suggestion, that may be easier to find than the glitter this year!!
(and we have a 22, 19, and 11 - Santa has started leaving thank you notes! That started about 5 years ago - it was a huge surprise to dh and I!!)
