What do Santa's reindeer eat?

We have always left carrots.

This year we keep trying to convince DD that Santa likes beer!!

Carrots for the reindeer, of course! And Santa likes peanut butter cookies and beer. :drinking1

carrots. of course, we put out celary too, but somehow that always gets eaten before santa comes...

apple!

the xmas tree farm we used to go to had Reindeer and they let us feed them apples.:santa:

We always make a batch of Reindeer food, especially for Santa's reindeer.. We mix quick oats (dry) with some glitter (to help them see it), and sprinkle it all over the yard. What the reindeer don't eat, the birds and squirrels are welcome to! ;) Sometimes DD leaves a few baby carrots with Santa's cookies ;)

Sweet feed. It's like oats and corn and whatnot with this molasses coating- it's like for horses and goats and of course, reindeer.

A carrot for us too. And Santa always got a glass of sherry and a mince pie (think it's a british tradition)

Over the years my kids brought home things like special reindeer food (shredded wheat and glitter, I think) to feed the reindeer. QUOTE]

Mmmm..... shredded wheat and glitter......

I don't think Santa would want to be flying behind that much fiber the entire night.

I usually left either carrots or sugarcubes (our horses liked sugarcubes, so why wouldn't reindeer?). They normally were put on their own individual napkins with their names written on them.

Carrots until the year the reindeer "made a mess" all over the living room carpet. That was it, no more treats for those BAAAAAAD reindeer!

Reindeer food of course! We just made a batch for the kids at preschool today! The ingredients are 1/4 cup oatmeal, 3 shakes of multi-colored sprinkles and a spoon full of red or green sugar and 9 pieces of candy corn left over from Halloween.
We've been putting this out for years and Santa hasn't missed us yet.

We leave carrots out with Santa's cookies, and also put the magic reindeer food on the lawn, so the smell of the oats and the glimmer of the magic crystals help guide the reindeer to our house. ;)

We don't use glitter, though, we use sugar crystals, as it's better for the tummies of the reindeer, as well as any birds, squirrels or bunnies who might sneak a taste. ;)

:lmao: :lmao:

9 carrots, one for each reindeer.

DS6 made reindeer food at school today. But he says it's only for Vixen and Rudolph. He tells me that it is "oatmeal and bling bling"

We too leave Santa cookies and beer. Although DH is trying to convince the kids that Santa probably wants pizza instead of cookies this year.

We leave cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer on a little plate stand by the fireplace. I think the stand is a skating snowman with his arm up in the air holding the plate. We set it on the floor.....I wouldn't advise this for those with pets!

When the reindeer stop at our house they always eat the carrot we leave out. My "kids" are 22 and 14 and still feed the reindeer and Santa.

One must NOT take chances with important things like this!

Oatmeal w/ glitter in it. DS doesn't see me put the glitter in though. It's magic. :thumbsup2

Add us to the hidden glitter - and I think leaving a beer for Santa is a good idea - but since so many others are having beer - maybe we'll leave a glass of scotch!! ;)

Thanks for the sugar suggestion, that may be easier to find than the glitter this year!!

(and we have a 22, 19, and 11 - Santa has started leaving thank you notes! That started about 5 years ago - it was a huge surprise to dh and I!!)
