Not sure if this even belongs on this site at all, but we're getting ready to put our house on the market, and my kitchen walls are dirty in spots--mainly from the dogs, but what can I use to clean them before I paint?

Thanks, Steph

I think we used TSP. Wicked stuff, so be careful! Worked well.

Yes. use TSP. It will tell you how much to mix per gallon of hot water. I wore rubber gloves when I used that stuff.
have fun.

What is so much better about TSP? What does it do to your hands??

pro painter and remodelor,, try using superclean from automotive dept at walk mart,, dilute it about one cup to gal of water, wash walls, then prime with a good primer, oil based kilz is about the best IMO after that if the spots dont bleed through the primer, if they do recoat with kilz... then you can paint with any good paint, latex or oil, we use the wal mart color place paint, its made by sherwin williams and is a good paint. if the spoots are mildew, try using good old ashioned clorox, wife just pointed that out to me..lol...

I honestly only use soap and water, maybe some Clorox on the tough areas. My parents have dogs and when my Mom paints, that is all she does and it works fine.

Try that Mr Clean magic Eraser

Used it after my last party and it worked well

I use Fantastik it works great on walls before painting.

I use TSP and like others said, be sure to wear rubber gloves!! It a killer on your skin!

TSP is TriSodiumPhosphate, and is very, very harsh, I believe it is an acid solution, and will burn any exposed skin. I used to use it for washing down concrete pool decks, and am actually surprised people would use it on walls, but maybe mine was more concentrated. Try some simple green. Get a small bottle of Goof Off for the stubborn stuff.

Edited for a cleaner with half a name that couldn't get by the filter, but ends in "and Span"

I use Krudcutter, as suggested by the guy at the paint counter at Home Depot. It is non-toxic, and doesn't hurt your hands. You spray it on, wipe it off. Works great....::yes::
