What DIS boardisms bug you?

The huge font sizes that are showing up in the allowed 8 lines of text in the signature. Yes, you are with in the letter of the guidelines, but certainly not the spirit. I'm lucky, I have a broadband connection. But those with dial up have a long wait for pages to load while all your cute artwork, and text of your last 8 trips in text size 42 are on the page. Yes, you can turn it off in your CP, but why should I have to turn off everyones signatiure because there are a few people who think it's OK to post that way, because they can? I would love to see a little more enforcement of the guidlines by the mods.

My biggest pet peeve, not on the CB, but the resorts and restaurants boards. Not everyone can afford concirerge. Not everyone wants to plan every meal or even go to Cinderella's Breakfast. But when I was a newcomer here, after having been to WDW at least 15 times, I actually felt like I was doing something wrong by not staying in concierge or doing a gazillion PS arrangements. I don't think people realize how off putting it can be. I'm used to it now, but I forgot and told my realtor to go to those boards for info in planning her trip last month (January). She gave me the same feedback. "Boy those people really think that concierge is the ONLY way to stay in a resort, and boy, you better have every single meal planned." She wasn't impressed, she was turned off.

I hate when something BIG happens on the boards like someone gets kicked off/banned or something like that
If you aren't reading when the stuff happens you are lost forever
and everyone is hush hush and nobody is supposed to talk about it

I'm one of the non-split-paragraphers. Sorry. I'll try to remember.

I don't tlike inside jokes either. Or out and out meaness. Life is too short.

Some abbreviations get me..like ressies, and the Poly. Spell them out.

Yes, I know not everyone is a terrific speller. But, at least double-check what you've written before you submit it. I make mistakes, I'll admit it. But, I do seem to hit the backspace a lot too.

While I love all things Disney, not everyone does. That's okay. I don't understand it, but it's okay. (kidding here!!)

The only thing that bugs me is when someone new asks an innocent question about mugs, pool hopping, etc.. They are looking for an answer and the same people will become the resort police every time. Every time I see one of these posts, I know just which posters will respond.

People who 'embed' music into the background of their posts. Most of the time, I'm listening to music through my speakers while I'm playing on the 'net; the embedded music garbles the music playing on my speakers - it would be nice if they would be considerate enough to provide a link (such as a Quicktime link or RealPlayer link) to click 'play' if they desire to listen to it.

The other thing, in addition to a lot of others here I completely agree with, is when people quote other post'rs by inserting the ENTIRE message into the quote. If they want to emphasize a specific part of the message, it would be nice to just insert that particular quote.

and lastly, just the overall 'snippiness' of disagreeing with other post'rs.

Definitely the lack enforcement for the signature guidelines is a big peeve of mine.

I really dislike when posters try to intimidate others, pick on them or belittle them, or, not really present now, but in the past, when some posters relished in hurting others here.

They didn't stop it they just took it elsewhere behind our backs. Someday it will come back to smack them in the face.

Please use the "report this post to a moderator" feature when you encounter a signature that needs to be addressed... we work really hard to make sure the signature guidelines are met, but we don't see everything.

The whole point of the guidelines that the Webmasters have set is to keep the board loading and running well for everyone, and to make the posts readable. We appreciate the help and the support we get from everyone here!

You know what really bugs me??;)

When some people get to go to WDW more than I do! Then they come back and brag about it.:(

Geesh, why can't they just take some of us along in their suitcases?;)

Just kidding. Nothing really bugs me on here cause it all comes out in the wash.;) :sunny:

My Pet Peeve: When someone registers under a Bogus ID to post because they're afraid to show their 'real self'. They most likely do this to post something that will be offensive to others. These people will complain about something, but you will notice their post count will be very small, for example the poster above who has approx. 3 as of this posting. Or, for example, my post count which you will notice is 1 as of this posting. Usually this happens because they want to do what's called a "hit and run"; post ('hit') something to make a point, hiding behind a Bogus ID, and then 'run' back to their original Dis user name. I'm doing this sample of a "hit and run" to show how easily it is done on the Dis, which is the cause of quite a large amount of abuse.

Question to KyStitch: What exactly is your pet peeve? Is it that people talk about people on other boards? Kind of like what they do here on the Dis, but in code? Is it that people participate on other boards? I'm not exactly clear on what your peeve is.

Those who feel they know everything about raising children & will tell you that you are wrong. They will also tell you that if you do not do things "right", you are stupid & must not care about your kids.

Dang! You beat me to it! ;)

(Oops, I quoted. LOL)

I love the Dis boards. I like the Good, the Bad AND the Ugly!:p

I guess it would be the repetitive threads. If people looked a page or 2 back before they post, this would not happen so often. I wish they could keep the mug thread at the top of resorts and a weather thread at the top of Theme Parks. Every day or so someone is all upset it may rain while they are at WDW. They could post under the weather thread and I could ignore it easily!

And the name "Cindy's" instead of Cinderella. princess:

Quotes, definitely. I don't mind if you're quoting a little one, but nothing annoys me more than a long post, followed by someone quoting the long post just to say they agree with them. Dude, just say you agree with the above poster!!

"They didn't stop it they just took it elsewhere behind our backs. Someday it will come back to smack them in the face."

Yeah...it's called PMing

I used to spend a lot more time on the Resorts Board until last summer when we bought DVC. One thing that has bugged me for a long time is how everyone jumps on/attacks anyone who posts a negative report on any resort. Then there is the flip side to that. How many times have you read a post where someone says "oh no...I didn't get....(fill in whatever) and my trip was ruined.
Give me a break, your trip was ruined? but I think that many read the posts on the boards and expect the same for themselves. example...We received a free upgrade last year to concierge...and I had to really think about it before I posted it because I wasn't sure what the reaction would be.
but then that leads to another pet peeve...you got it, therefore so should I.
Ok...I rambled. sorry.

This pains me too!

But my biggest pet peeve is when I visit the boards too often and there is nothing new to read! I guess I'll go do something constructive now to give people time to make new posts.

Trip reports that are never finished. Or the ones that are dragged out over a month. I really enjoy reading them, but I don't want to wait a month to find out what happened on day 3.

People who get upset at "newbies" when they ask a question on one of the boards that has been asked several times before. Yes, it may be an old question and you (you as in generic, not you personally) may have seen it asked a hundred times before, but the new person has not. We were all "newbies" here at some point, so I think those who get upset about those posts should just lighten up. If you don't want to read someone's post asking a question about their first cruise, or asking a question about the tag fairy, or whatever....just don't read it.
