What DIS boardisms bug you?

*Posters who complain about anothers grammer or spelling and have mistakes in their own post

Wouldn't that be Another's Grammar? :rolleyes:

I can't stand people that complain about people doing things that they are doing themselves. I also can't stand the parenting judgements that fly around.

When the DIS-ney "police" come out! :eek:

People who say a thread is "inappropriate" yet I'll find 5-6 or more posts from them. :confused: Why don't they just ignor it?!

But my biggest pet peeve is when I visit the boards too often and there is nothing new to read!

Oh I hate that also!! For some reason "ressie" irritates me - not a lot when I read it but I would NEVER use it.

I don't like it when members judge other members and things get nasty. I should know, I felt as though I was being "picked on" a while ago.

For those of you who remember, I was engaged to anohter member here. I broke it off for reasons that I'm not going to get into. My ex came on here and vented, which she had every right to do. However, some of you called me a coward and you didn't even know the whole story. It hurt my feelings and I decided to stay away from here fro a few months. I realized that there are more good people here than there are bad and that everyone has and is entitled to their own opinion. But that doesn't give anyone the right to be nasty and judgemental, especially if you've heard only one side of the story.

Be nice. Be safe.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Posts written in ALL CAPS. Much harder to read, especially when there are no paragraph breaks. I understand that not everyone types by touch, but I'd rather see all lower case instead.

Signatures used to be a pet peeve of mine until I turned them off.

Seriously, nothing really bothers me on the DIS. Sometimes I get annoyed with people who complain about signatures when those of us who have them are following the rules. If font size is a problem then it should be added to the guidelines.

A personal peeve....I hate the word "ladies", so I refuse to open any thread with that word in the title !

Uh oh....and I started a thread today with that word in the title! :o

Next time I'll say "chicks!" :p

Definitely the lack enforcement for the signature guidelines is a big peeve of mine.

LOL, I haven't seen a signature in over a year. Got tired of scrolling through all those graphics to get to the text that I turned the option off. Guess I should turn it on for a while and see what I've been missing.

I don't like the clique (ish) threads i.e. home of the _________
It seems if you are not in it from the start of the thread, you are not invited.

The only thing that irritates me is that when I went to change my e-mail address, and I was not able to post no matter what I tried. I must have sent 15 e-mails to try to get it fixed and all I got were these automated responses that never helped. After a month I finally broke down and registered as a new member to get back on. Of course, I lost all of my posts. I have actually been here since 1999!

But as far as fellow posters and the info they post. I love it here...quotes, misspellings and all!

Wouldn't that be Another's Grammar? :rolleyes:

Well there is a perfect example of one of my pet peeves in action.

People who use the :rolleyes: smiley to add that little extra touch of sarcasm to their responses when criticizing a poster. Classy.

I always find it annoying on the trip reports board when people post messages like "great trip - thanks for posting" - and they post this same message over and over again for every trip report on the board.

What's up with that? It makes me think that these people are competing to have the highest number of posts on the DIS and they could care less what people did on their trip or where they went. They just want to post a quick reply and move on to the next report so that they can get as many posts as possible.

Re- "ladies"

Mostly it is just one of those personal issues;)
just like another women can call me a girl, but a man sure doesen't want to :)

I don't mind it in the context of "ladies and gentleman"

I guess what I like is equity:

girl=boy
man=women
female=male
ladies=gentleman

what bugs me is seeing two restrooms one marked "men" the other marked "ladies".

Thanks for this thread! I never realized you could shut off the signatures and not look at the same signatures and pictures over and over when all you want to do is read the message text. Plus I have dial up service and the page loads so much faster now.:D
