What did you get your parents for Christmas?

This year for my parents five of us siblings (out of 6) put money in and bought them a 32" inch tv.

My parents are in their 60's, they go out to eat every Saturday night. So I got them various restaurant gift cards (4 in all). They don't need or want anything.... so I know they will use these.

My mother gets upset if we give her expensive things. She's also a hoarder. So we try to give her meaningful things that won't accumulate. This year I got her a beautiful medic alert bracelet. I canned up vegetable soup, no-sugar applesauce, Greek green beans, and carrots for her. DH bought her some wine she likes. DD16 took her to see the Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker. A book about Mother Teresa and a few things for her beloved pets.

MIL lives in a nursing home so she doens't have any storage area. We gave her some warm PJs and a beautiful pashmina shawl (you know how older ladies are always cold). DH got her small singing reindeer to play with(*and she has LOVED that!) And we bought her a lot of little gifties and small bags to put them in so she will have small presents to give people there at the nursing home. She really loved that because she can't shop anymore. DH took all the stuff down there(*400miles) and helped her put the little gifties together so that when she wants to gift someone, all she has to do is reach in her drawer and there it is! We'll definitely do that again.

Mom and her husband got a World traveler map and my mom is getting a vera bag and a Golf Jacket.

Dad is getting a dinner out with us to Emeril's. He didn't even open the ipod we bought him last year. Asked what he wanted and he said - a dinner with us out. So that's what he'll get.

The inlaws are getting food (ribs actually) shipped.

In laws are getting the standard Walmart gift card and a couple to McD's, Wendys and maybe a gas card...They live in Fl and that's what they always want so its what we get them,.

My parents are getting a Keurig this year. I"m a little nervous if they'll like it, but I think they will. I got a good deal at Target on it.

Loving all your gift selections :thumbsup2! Got my Mom a nice watch, warm PJ's & slippers, a beautiful ' A Mother is the guardian angel of the family' ornament,
and a "If I could build a stairway to heaven" Dove locket. She is not hard to please at all, loves and appreciates what ever any one gives her. :goodvibes

My mom is easy to buy for, my dad not so much.

Mom-

Table runner in her Christmas china pattern
Cookbook stand (she's just started cooking as a hobby recently)
Stocking stuffers

Dad-

Electronic tape measure
Radio controlled helicopter (he actually asked for it)
Stocking stuffers

Both-

Ornament themed for their alma mater (yearly gift)

Dad got a GPS, and for his stocking I got scratch offs, pistachios, and a bathroom reader book. For mom tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway, and the cd of the show. My inlaws usually don't let us get them anything, but this year was their 50th anniversary, and their big gift had to be returned so they let us get them a desktop computer with monitor. Again, normally they only get homemade chocolate chip cookies.

And we bought her a lot of little gifties and small bags to put them in so she will have small presents to give people there at the nursing home. She really loved that because she can't shop anymore. I think that is is a wonderful gift! I wish that I would have thought about doing something like this for my grandmother. One year someone must have donated a ton (and I mean a ton) of greeting cards to the home where she lives because she had cards for every occassion! That was a wonderful donation because she loves to send out greetings randomly throughout the year.

My Mom is 72. She doesn't NEED anything.
So I made her a memory star. One of those metal stars that people put on the outside of their houses. I put scrapbooking pages on the points and then put different family pics over that with decopage. It looks fabulous and I know she will love it!
:thumbsup2

My dad yells when I buy him a gift, but then smiles. I know he just hates me spending money on him. He's getting his favorite...chocolate covered cherries and a nice box of cheeses and meats. He loves it. My mom got a Scentsy candle warmer and scents. We don't spend much on each other...we made a rule once you have kids you don't get, your kids do. BUT she always makes me a small quilt or something to let me know she loves me, so I always get them something too. Anything more than $30 and I would never hear the end of it. HOWEVER, my one sister has 3 boys, and wants two more kids. SHE breaks the bank!! :rotfl:

Mother, if you're reading this, stop.

I got my mom two sweater sets and a pretty fleece jacket. I got my dad jacket (personalized - grandad type thing), a cd (NPR National Parks), and we got them both together a photo book of the boys and a big US map, cork boards to mount it on, and some map pins. They RV and once my mom told me she wished they had a big map for the wall so they could see all where they've been.

We also do stockings for them. Some of the things in each of their stockings (I'll let you decide which is for which :) ): Body Shop shea body butter, sewing mag., dish towel, hand warmers, candy, RV toilet paper :), sunflower seeds, jar of marionberry jam, a jar of blue cheese chipotle dip, folding scissors, cookie cutters, can of cashews, and I can't remember what else.

Since I still live at home and it is just Mom and I (dad passed away in June) we still exchange like we used to when I was younger. So I got her

-a new digital camera
-lots of clothes (she has lost close to 115lbs over 2 years so she needs some new stuff)
-Julie and Julia on DVD
-a photo calander from our september disney trip.

Omaha Steaks - assortment of meat, fish, chicken & sides. Its nice since they are each individually wrapped. Just make sure they have enough freezer space.

I've done those Fruit a Month clubs too for them. You can do 3, 6, 9 or 12 months usually.

I did the same. They just got it today. They loved it. They had fun picking through it and seeing all the different things.
