What did you do to save money today? Oct 5-11

I was at Walmart today getting a prescription filled for my son and found him some shorts for our trip on Saturday. They had Cars, Speed Racer, and Bat man swim shorts with the build in underwear for $2.00 each!!

Hello fellow BBers. I had to buy the all-important TP and cold medicine today, so the kiddies and I walked to the store and used a coupon. I'm trying to stay out of the stores until its my big shopping day, otherwise I'm easily tempted to spend more money than necessary. Other than that, no other money spent, and I'm trying to eat random food in my pantry that gets neglected before my shopping day. Hope everyone has a fun and frugal Tuesday!

there are a lot of great things on here! my husband and I made dog treats last night. I'm not sure how much we saved but we used items that we purchased long ago specifically for this purpose. So instead of being lazy and just buying dog treats, we made 200+ treats with things out of the cupboard/freezer. And it makes the puppies happy and more spoiled for less money.

Just wondering if you used a recipe for your dog treats? I've been looking for one and trying to make it as healthy as possible.

Eliza, to the left, is a lab also. We adopted her last year and are head over heels in love with her! She is the best behaved dog and so loving!!

I used a carry basket instead of a push cart at Target to get the 5 items on my list! Thus, less room for dropping in things I don't need and aren't on the list! It really worked!

My purse was wearing out so I found one that was originally $40 on sale 50 % off. Plus I had a 20% off coupon for that store so

40.00 - 50% (20.00) = 20.00 - 20% coupon (4.00) = 16.00

So a $40 purse for $16! Not too bad! Of course I had to save money cause I had a huge vet bill to pay after picking up the cat.:scared1:

I haven't done anything yet today, to save $$ but I just had to say that I love your pics!! Great idea, with the doggie treats too! And I'm sure they are better for the pooches...than the store bought.:thumbsup2

I don't know if this counts but what we did to save money is pay off the balances on all but one of our credit cards over the weekend. It has taken us a while to save the money up, but by doing this we are saving atleast $400 a month. We expect to have the other one paid off by March or April of 09 at the latest and we will be credit card debt free :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:. This will give us $700-$800 a month that was going towards creditcard payments that can then go towards saving for our December 09 WDW trip.

Woot...woot!! What I did just now, is go up to my "gift closet" and pulled out enough toys, lip glosses, games, LP Shops etc....to do all of the kids on my Christmas list!! :cool1: (Not my own of course!) But we buy for about 10 kids. I even have enough, to donate 4-5 toys for the local Toys for Tots drive. I don't have to buy them either!! I already have the teachers gifts, as well and enough toys, for 4 kids birthdays in Jan.

DH and I, also decided we would tell our friends, not to buy us anything this year. Sometimes, adult gifts, seem silly to us. We always end up swapping gift cards. We decided, that we will all keep our $$ and go to Great Wolf as a group!! Hurray...but what will I buy Black Friday????

Oh....and congrats on paying off the card! Such a nice feeling, isn't it??!!!!!;)

Yes it is. We figured that each month we were shelling out $700-$800 a month on creditcards. So even if we don't pay the last one off until May 09, that gives us 7 months before our WDW trip. $800 x 7 months = $5600.

I guess this saved me $ in the long run. I bought disney *cars* crocs at our local ROSS store on sunday($10.00). I bought them a size too big and put them away for next summer for DS.

I have also been trying stay away form the mall so I figure thats saving $$ on gas and impulse buys. I also save change in baby wipe containers We were able to save $190.00 for our last disney trip!

I like reading the BB to get so many great ideas!

My money saving ventures for today:-

  1. Bought some toys for Christmas gifts on sale today - 50% off
  2. Shopped at a less expensive supermarket - not the prettiest place in the world, but the prices are good. Better yet, its inventory is pretty bare-bones, so there's no temptation to splurge on stuff that's not on the list/ in the budget
  3. Packed DD's lunch - dinner leftovers!
  4. Reduced the use of the A/c while driving, so that I can save some gas. Kept that up until the heat became unbearable - no point saving on gas, then having to spend the savings on a heat-induced migraine!
  5. Toted around my refillable water bottle - tap water only
  6. Bought some craft supplies to make items for upcoming craft fairs, as well as for gift giving
  7. Got a free drink with a scratch-and-win card from fast food place
  8. null

I am very proud of myself today . . .

1) really wanted a muffin for breakfast, but ate the graham crackers I had at my desk instead (saved $1.39)

2) really, really wanted a Vietnamese Tea to go with dinner leftovers at lunch but had the free stuff at work instead (saved almost $5.00)

3) went to Target on lunch hour and completely stuck to my list (saved $countless!)

- Bought over 40# of meat from our butcher at once, froze everything...comes out to $2.33 a lb when bought in bulk

- Limit my trips to "town" (20 min away) to once a week and do everything at once.

- Instead of fab softener sheets, dampen an old sock with diluted liquid softener/water each time

- Pack lunches everyday

- Limit dining out to once a week

- Only ONE latte a week, that's a whole gallon of gas in that tiny 12oz cup!

- Sold old toys on Ebay

- Bought solid wood train/activity table on CL for $50 rather than $200 on amazon

- Tried to get in on a photopass group for our upcoming trip!

- Wash the car at home

- Use local coupons for oil changes, car service

- Bought off brand ink cartridges off ebay

- Bought 3 pair of gymbo shoes for $12 total off ebay!

- Ordered pizza from Pizzahut.com last week and used online coupon for $9.99 (usually a $14 pizza)

- Canceled home phone service

- Going to shows put on by local community theaters rather than the big ticket shows in the city

Love this thread!

What a great idea. I want to start a budget and be better about keeping track of details.I think I would really see some places to cut back if I did.

Today I went to a grocery store on the same road I had to go to two other stores on (instead of the ones I usually go to) It's can be a little more but I found chicken roaster for .69 each (savings $1 a lb), got a printed coupon w/ my store card for a free baglefull and I saw the glad wisp candle starters. they were on sale for $5.99 w/ $5 peel off coupon. I have one starter kit but this was cheeper than buying refills. It was a limit 2 or I would have gotten a few more. Wonder if I can give them for gifts or is that odd?? Maybe I should go back tomorrow and get 2 more... hhhmm.... Also I resisted the urge to buy lunch there or some where else and ate what I had home.

Bought some stuff we just ran out of with Walgreen's register rewards.

I'm not positive what a glade candle wisp starter is. But, last year there was a great deal on the glade flameles candles. And that sounds similar.

They made good gifts for girls graduating HS and going on to college. Candles are so popular right now, but most college dorms don't allow open flames. The make-believe candles are a nice substitute. (I used them in "go-to-college" baskets).

might be the same thing. I was going off my poor memory LOL. It's the flameless candles that let out "puffs" of scent. I don't know any graduating Sr. but might be nice for teacher gifts for their room maybe.

i just bought 6 full outifts for my kdsi kids at talbots.com for 54$ my husbands spends alot on my kids ofr clothes now i just got the and he dont know she when he mentions we need to get the kids a few outfits for christmas I already got them. :cool1:

I stayed home, did the wash, hung it to dry even though it's like 30degrees today, DD walked to her father's work and is doing her homework there thus creating once less trip in the car, and we are eating what we have in the house.
