What did you do to save money today? Oct 5-11

Well, today, DH and I didn't do our "Friday Lunch" out, we ate at home instead. It wasn't too painful :headache: .

Small steps add up! :goodvibes
Keep up the good work everyone!

Today I have the biggest craving for Chinese Take-Out. I have a terrible sinus infection, keep getting dizzy, but I am going to make a dinner at home if it kills me, which if it does, I won't be able to contribute to this thread tomorrow:rotfl2:.

DD and I were home from school today but we ate lunch at home instead of going out. Even fast food would have been close to $10.

I transfered a script to CVS and got a $25 gc so I bought Sleeping Beauty with it:thumbsup2

Target:
Windex $2.33
Scrubbing Bubbles Shower Foam 3.84
Windex 2.33
Fantastic $1.99
Shout 2.24
Scrubbing Bubbles 2.33
Total $15.96
After coupons $5.96:goodvibes :wizard:

Today all 3 kids were home from school. Took the two teenagers to their very last ortho visit (second retainer check), $0, picked up dd13's contacts at the eye doctor, $0 covered by insurance (woohoo! We've NEVER had vision coverage before!), dropped homemade cookies off at another girl scout's house for a fundraiser for her Silver Award project (dd made from scratch with 1/2 bag of $.70 sale Hershey choc chips and $1.66/lb butter).

Went to Happy Harry's (owned by Walgreens, so gets most Wags deals).

1 Scrubbing Bubbles cleanser
1 Scrubbing Bubble wipes
3 large boxes Puffs

Used in-ad coupon plus manufacturer's coupon for Puffs and two printable $2 coupons for Scrubbing Bubbles. Paid with a $4 Register Reward and $1 on my Walgreens gift card (from rebates, gets reloaded every month with rebate money). Will get back $2.20 in SC Johnson rebate money next month----$2 from the actual rebate plus 10% bonus when rebate is loaded on a Walgreens gift card)

So I will have made money on that drugstore trip :)

Dh worked from home as he does every MWF, saving money on gas and parking AND city tax.

Not only that but your expenses will go way up to pay for that funeral! :rotfl:

Its Saturday here in New Zealand so Mum and I went to a church fair this morning and they were giving away vegetable plants at the end for free - I got a punnet of silverbeet (chard in the US?), some vietnamese mint and some globe cucumber plants - $0 - YAY!

I also got a "new" trivet thing for the bottom of my pressure cooker for 10 cents - hope it fits. I use our pressure cooker a lot to cook dried beans and I also make "stew" for my pets with human quality meat and veges as one of my dogs has allergies to colourings and preservatives. I've found that human consumption meat on special costs about the same as the rubbish they call pet food.

When we finished at the fair, I went to the green grocers over the road and got a massive bag of mushrooms which need eating today - so mushroom soup for dinner.

I did a couple of loads of washing in cold water and its hanging out on the line to dry - its a beautiful day.

I potted up some baby cacti to sell and I sold our old coffee table ($5) and some DVDs ($40).

We are also going to plant our seed potatoes this afternoon or tomorrow I'll probably also plant some coriander (I think thats called cilantro in the US) seed.

Robert's Mum mentioned last weekend that she didn't like her dining room table - it takes up too much space in her small flat and I'd been thinking our one didn't look right in our house. So we are going to try swapping them to see if they look better in each others homes - worth a try and could save us all a lot of money!

We are going to a "Sing Star" & dessert party tonight so we are taking a large bottle of Pepsi Max ($1 on special last weekend at the supermarket) and some Reeces Peanut Butter Bunnies which I got in Hawaii just after Easter on sale - the don't have Easter on the packet and we can't get them here so they will be unusual and exotic party fare.

DS insisted on inviting his whole class to b-day party - it's hard to reason with a 5 year old, and he's at a new school this year to boot with all new friends...

No expensive moon bounces or indoor play areas...we went to the park! I ordred pizzas from the grocery store (5 cheaper than pizzeria and bigger to boot) and made the cake myself - a candy train cake. Even with the $14 mold for the engine, the cakes themselves (i needed 3 total) were from the 10 for $10 sale.

It was still expensive, but much less than what friends throw!

I stayed home tonight and had a girls night in. We made beach glass jewellery and everyone brought an appetizer. Great fun...cost about 2 2L's of Coke!;)

Today at Target I got a Gillette Fusion Razor for DH, it was on clearance for $4.25 and and I had a $4 off coupon, so I only paid $.54 :thumbsup2

I can understand your joy on that one!! You should see my bathroom closet, it literally looks like a grocery shelf in there. I use Schick Intuition, which is not cheap by ANY means. The store here I guess is not selling it any more, and they marked them down to about $5.50 for the razors and refills, and I had a ton of $4 coupons that I was collecting, so I bought nearly every single one of them! Of course, I'd only buy like 4 or 5 at a time because I was too embarrassed, but I have probably about 20 packs of refills I bought for about $1.50, versus nearly $9 a pop!

Here's a few things I've done this week:

Last weekend, had DD12's birthday party....at the mall. I had three adults to help me in a scavenger hunt so that I could have constant adult supervision. I brought soda, water, cake and plates/cups and purchased pizza at the mall. Including favors and the money I put in envelopes for the challanges, the entire party came to about $100! That's cheap for us!

Been saving leftover steak from dinners, slice and freeze. When we need a quick dinner for one or two, I defrost the steak and top a big salad with all kinds of veggies with the steak. Then we serve with balsamic vinegar dressing. My family are big meat eaters, so this helps provide meat when there isn't time or meat available.

Last night while DD12 was at a slumber party, we went out to eat at a local restaurant. Used $40 in GC, so our steak and shrimp dinner with salad bar for two only cost us $16, including a 20% tip! The steak was so tender and juicy, it was one of the best meals I've ever had!

I always bring my lunch to work and I bought one of the water bottles with the built in filter. I can now fill up my bottle with tap water and drink away without buying anything!! If I need to, I bring another cup with some instant iced tea in it and squeeze the filtered water into that cup for iced tea.

Well tonight we are going to a free program at the university next to us, rather than going out to eat or going to a movie. I also taped a movie on TV yesterday that the kids have never seen and we are going to watch that later tonight instead of renting a movie (like we usually do).

I haven't posted since Wed so I have some catching up to do.

Thursday DH bought pizza on his way home. It was Little Caesars so at least it was cheap but I would rather have kept the $10 and eaten one of the three frozen pizzas we have in the freezer. I let it slide today because he'd had a busy day at work and didn't even get to take a lunch. I ate at work
but the pizza cancels out my savings. Darn!

Friday I was off and had to go to the mall to get some clothes for an upcoming trip. Found two cute tshirts on clearance and bought a third, dressier top. It wasn't on sale but I was getting desperate. Went to the store next door and found a cuter dressy top that was made better AND was cheaper! Bought it and returned the first one. I resisted Hot Dog on a Stick even though those delicious cheese on a sticks were calling to me. The mall is about 40 mins away from our house so I'd brought snacks and ate once I got back out to the car. Not fun but I probably saved $4-5.

DH was on my list because he could've come home for lunch but didn't. Grrr.

My MIL came to spend the night with us because her husband is away so we treated her to dinner at Sonic. I'm sure that sounds funny but Sonic is new to our state and there aren't very many around so they are kind of a big draw. We're not really super cheap, I swear!!

I did all the laundry for the day in cold water as usual and I bought hair dye to avoid a trip to the salon. I did treat myself today to a Mystic Tan (you stand in booth and get sprayed w/dye). Fridays they are only $14 so I decided to try it to see if it is worth doing a few times before we leave for Vegas. Good thing for me it was cheap because I really don't see a big difference, I can still see my regular tan lines. Darn. Oh well, now I won't be spending $30/session going a couple times before we leave.

Today will be a $0 day for me. I've got cleaning to do and plan on scrapbooking. I was going to order some pics due to the Snapfish deal but couldn't narrow it down to order just the 50 cheap ones plus the shipping was ridiculous so I'll just wait. DH is at a softball tournament so he will be eating out with the team and buying Gatorade (no outside food/drink is allowed) but will be tired by the time he gets home so he won't feel like going anywhere. Normally we'd go to the movies since Friday night is our usual date night and we had company so that's about a $30 savings.

I went grocery shopping but came in right under my $100 weekly goal mark at $99.43. :thumbsup2 I think $100 per week for the 5 of us is pretty good.

I got a great deal at Target - on filet mignon! I've never ever bought it before but I was checking the meat section for any discounted chuck roast and saw two packages of filets. Both started at $18.xx and were marked down to $10.xx, then had the $3 off coupon on each, plus I had two of the $2 off coupons on steak or roasts from the Target website. So each package was only $5.xx, for 1.35 lbs. each!

I wrapped the steaks individually and froze them. DH loves steak and his birthday is in November. Now I have to figure out how to cook them!

I went "shopping" in my fridge & pantry. Its amazing what's in there, expiring away! I have some odd combinations, but I'm trying to plan a week's worth of menus with what I have on hand, I will just now need to buy milk and bread. I really need to clean that thing out, anyways, to make room for the holiday food!
