What did you do to save money this week (2/4/07)?

I followed someone's tip and went to the Dollar Tree to get my Sunday paper today ($1.08 vs. $1.25 out of the rack), and there are more than that in coupons that I'll save. I did check out the coupons last night at taylortownpreview to know whether I wanted to get the paper or not.

So I spent the afternoon reading the paper and going through the ads. I have a short list for Walgreens (All S/M detergent and Renuzit air freshener). I like the All Small / Mighty for when we travel to WDW (we're DVCers so we usually end up doing laundry when we go - it's easier to take the S/M bottle with us). It's $3.99 at WalGreens plus $1 off coupon so that makes it $2.99. I'll put it up for Spring Break I'm also the "supplier" of air freshener at work and I noticed that the one in the storage room where our microwave is has about vanished, so it's time to replace it.

We'll hit Publix on the way home from church tonight - have my list and like Ducklite said, lots of BOGO's. I started clipping coupons again last week, so I don't have a lot saved back yet, but at least I'll save some while there. And most importantly, I'm going with the LIST and that's that.

My first post here. My husband and I took a hard look at our CC debt last night and decided we need to make some changes.

He is on the phone canceling cable right now! That saves us 90 a month. We don't plan on going without any tv though. We are going to buy a HD antenna, a one time price of 150. Over the course of a year it saves us 930!

We are also getting Netflix instead of renting from stores. We tend to rent alot of DVDs, plus I always manage to get late fees.

I love this thread. Now I need to check out all the deals I'm reading about at CVS!

I went and got the paper from the neighbor (we never buy our sunday paper lol) went through the ads, nothing teriffic there for us. Clipped some coupons (again very limited since we don't eat processed foods.) It's been pouring all day so I haven't left the house.

Though I did call and have a gift basket made up for mom for our upcoming Disney trip (next week) and spent a bit more than I would have liked to, but she's been extra great the past few weeks as I've been going through a lot.

Left 15 minutes early so I could stop at K-mart on the way to DD's rehearsal instead of backtracking. DS needed shoes and I found some for 50% off which was only $7.99. I love K-mart shoes and they always have a sale on them.

Used a $1 off coupon on the bottom of an old receipt for DD's haircut, the receipt was from 2005 which wasn't a problem and her receipt had another coupon on it for next time in 6 months or so.

We usually pick up milk at Aldi's on our monthly trip and then buy at the local store in between for $1 more. Since I was at Target I picked up 2 gallons saving $1.10 each since an Aldi's trip is weeks away.

On the "maybe we're pushing this frugality thing too far" side

Left 1 DS at home who didn't want to go anyway so didn't have to pay for his lunch.

Talked to H and convinced him to wait until summer to have DS test for his license and renew his permit that's expiring in a month. This puts off for a few months having our insurance rates go way up with a teen driver. But really he needs alot more practice before he's ready to test; I put H in charge of his practice since I don't have the nerves to do it and H isn't the most reliable person at making sure these things get taken care of so he hasn't gotten as much practice as he should have.

DS wants a party with friends for his b-day so I told him he could invite more friends if we had it at home, had frozen pizza that we get free from my work, and he was agreeable to a homemade cake instead of bakery that we usually get for the kids.

I went to Kohls and stocked up on clothes for gifts. I bought about 10 jr. t- shirts for DD to give at birthday parties, seems like she goes to one every other week. They were cute, trendy and originally priced at $22. They cost me $3.
A few weeks ago I hit B&BW and bought a bunch of stuff on clearance. $1 and $2 lotions, hand sanitizers and lip balms. I'll throw a few things in a Dollar store gift bag with a shirt and still come out ahead than if we had to go out and buy a gift every time.

We shared Chinese takeout with the neighbors and shared movie rentals. Got to see a free movie and 5 adults ate till we were stuffed for $30. And I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

I went to couponmom.com and signed up so I could see a liost of coupons and the grocery store in my area. We don't have CVS but we have Walgreens and so that helps too in addition to my grocery store.

We used a coupon & drank water today when we ate out.

Yesterday we stayed home & I cleaned out my closet & worked on the bedroom as well. I'm not done with either but I did mange to get 2 bags of clothes out of my closet which I'm taking to the thrift store by where I work.

I also 'found' several items I hadn't worn in a long time because I was stuck in that 'grab from the front' rut so it was like getting new clothes without shopping. I can't wait to wear my 'new' stuff!!

Sigh, I'm doing better but not good enough. Last week DD 6 made a bday card to attach to the present she took to a friends bday party. And we stopped at library to borrow DVDs for our 2 hour trip to brothers house. We've had leftovers all weekend even though I wanted to order pizza. Today I drop some of the kids clothes off at the 2nd hand store. Did one good thing - bought my son a cute new old navy swimsuit for $4.50 and putting the expensive Janie and Jack one I got last season for him on ebay and getting money back. It was $15.00 on clearance which is way too much for a 3yr olds swimsuit. But then I blew it and bought the kids a toy they don't need. THe house is overflowing with toys. And my son's bday was last week so we have new toys from that. Will try to do better this week. At least I am thinking more about what I am spending my money on.

Not having school!

They called off school for my district, which is a rarity. DS's school is still in session as of this hour. Its currently -4 with a -20 windchill. Usually our local district only cancels for -20 or below due to the buses not being able to start. We shall see.

I'll save a few gallons of gas in both directions while I stay inside all nice and warm!

I just found you guys last week, and I'm loving this! Thanks for sharing your savings and tips!

Before I jumped on board the savings wagon we ALWAYS ate out at night, but last week I cooked every meal at home!! This weekend we did eat out 2 times, but that's really nothing for us. (Justification: Saturday was my bday, and we went out for breakfast as a treat, and yesterday DH & DD ordered a medium pizza - with a coupon - for lunch while I shopped at CVS. Overall, we spent much less than we have in the past for eating out.)

CVS on 2/4: My pre-savings total was $79.44. After applying the $10/$50 coupon (thanks for that!), a BOGO deal, and $23.49 in ECB's, my total was $38.94!! AND if all ECBs I am supposed to earn for that purchase do get credited to me, I earned another $36.99 in ECB's for my next CVS trip. YAY!

BTW, I tried to find something cheap to purchase for having my ECBs printed, but everything at the registers was .99 and up!! Where do you find the "cheap" stuff?

I bought a $0.65 Valentine Nerd Rope yesterday (it was on sale). Brought it home and dh, ds, and dd split it 3 ways.

Day 22 of the IPCEO!

I've got another show to photograph tonight, downtown at one of the local gin mills, which makes eating out less tempting. (When I'm shooting at House of Blues with Wolfgang Puck Express right next door, and food from HoB available inside the concert hall, there's a LOT of temptation. )

So I brought dinner, and I'll eat before I head downtown. I also brought a snack (some mini-rice cakes) to eat in the car on the way there, so I won't have any munchies.

My BIL called this morning, and he and my SIL are postponing their trip until fall. A bit disappointing, as I was really looking forward to seeing them, but by the same token it will save $300+ in meals and $20+ in gas and tolls as we won't be headed to WDW every night to spend time with them. So from a budget perspective, it's saving me money.

DH flies in a week from tonight, and will be here for a week. We've got Citrico's reservations on Valentines Day, and I told him we can eat out one other time with a coupon, probably the local Mexican place where we can BOGO and leave for around $20 including tax and tip.

Tomorrow night I'm going to stop at Walgreens on the way home to pick up a few things that they had really good coupons for, should save me about $10 over regular prices.

And I'll be starting my new crop of tomotoes next weekend, so in 6-8 weeks I'll have fresh tomotoes for a few months for $1.29. Also we'll be looking at putting in our orange trees in another month or so, so in a couple of years I'll have free oranges for a few months a year. I'm also thinking about growing a pot of sweet red peppers, I use a lot of them, and they are wicked expensive, even in season.

Small savings, but I had to buy maternity clothes 2 weeks ago for work and saw online that one of the sweaters I bought at Old Navy went on sale for $10 less than I paid, so I called for a price adjustment and they did one over the phone....saved $10!
