What did you do for fun at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress?

Beautiful resort - absolutely gorgeous, great trails around property
View of MK and Epcot fireworks was super
Proximity to Downtown Disney awesome
Trail rides were fun (per DH and DD)
Boats around their lake

Didn't like - the main pool with slide wasn't heated - 63 degrees :sad2:
Bed was awful - both DH and I woke to back aches

If we had been staying longer, I would have brought up the bed situation, but we only stayed two days and a move would have been a hassle. Overall, been there, not going back but glad we tried it out.

what time of year did you go? I hope it's warmer than that in June.

Did you have to pay extra for the horse riding or was that included in the resort fee?

Bill

Oh no! They don't heat their pool? We have a package deal for next year where we can stay at the Hyatt. Is this true! And I'm sure we'll miss our Swan's heavenly beds..sigh.

Back again - sorry for the delay in responding. We just got back - stayed there a couple days last week.

The horseback riding is $45 per person for a half hour ride. Both DD and DH seemed to really enjoy it. They were the only ones going at that time. If you are a better rider, the guide recommended Horse World as this is just a walk/trot ride. The equestrian center is gorgeous - lucky horses - but it is a three mile ride from the hotel. The trail ride is on site and is less than a mile or so down the road from the hotel.

I told the front desk that I didn't like their beds and I was told that they are currently replacing all their beds. Maybe their new ones will be up to the standard that a four star hotel is supposed to be.

The pools probably aren't too busy in winter, but when we were there it was 80 degrees outside and we only had the small pool to enjoy without the slide. The large pool is definitely the nice pool. June should be fine but I wouldn't recommend this for winter months. I had fun watching the look of horror on the occasional swimmer that gave the pool a try though. :teeth:

Some are heated and others are not. Plus there are hot tubs in the grotto/tunnel between some of them. But 63 degrees? That's pretty bad.

The Grand Cypress offers a variety of water experiences, but no map or directory. You just have to explore. Try the rope bridge over the big pool (if it's still there). If you don't like one rock slide, try the other.

In addition to what an earlier poster said:

Pro's: the grounds are big and gorgeous. Just wander around for a while; like being in Sea World without the whales (or the crowds). Had friends out from Orlando/Winter Park at their request. Location is excellent; back when you could cruise through the Ft. Wilderness gate, it was only a couple of minutes to the MK.
Hemingway's (the nice restaurant) was awesome. When we were there for Sunday brunch, the place was empty; we were literally the only ones in the room. Of course we got one of the nice tables overlooking the pool/lake. The harpist took "requests" and was very good. The wait staff was doting, but not obtrusive. They made a hot dog for our youngest even though it wasn't on the tiny kids' menu. Hugely expensive, but well worth it for a top-flight restaurant.

Cons: the room was nothing special, though it was for a premium price. Just a hotel room. Also, the front desk messed up our bill; we were on frequent flier/stayer points and they tried to charge us full price. This also happens in other hotels, so just make sure it is clear when you check in and review your bill at the end.
