What did you bake today ? OK if not from scratch

Cherry and coconut cupcakes for a cherry and coconut lover's birthday!

...And chocolate fudge cupcakes for the rest of us who either don't like coconut or don't like cherries!

Baking question:

My DS took a cooking class and his teacher said that a "dry" cup is a different measurement than a "liquid" cup. I went to my Pyrex measuring cup and measured a cup of water, then poured it in to my plastic dry measuring cup and sure enough, it was slightly different.

Has anyone else found that? Is it time for me to invest in a new set of measuring cups or do I just have to be more diligent in what I measure in which cup?

It is. So when baking it requires exact measurements. Put flour in a dry cup and then into the glass one to see the difference and it is also different for wet .

absolutely different measurements. You need both dry measuring cups and liquid measuring cup. It does make a difference in the final product.

Made an Angel food cake from scratch, used my biggest bundt pan and it still over flowed. Turned out delicious, although the top somewhat stuck to the pan. Oh well...will be great with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

Thanks to both of you. I honestly didn't know that. I mean, mostly I use the right one, but once in awhile I have the dry one out and just use it for the liquid, too, but now I won't do that.

If you want to be really precise when baking, weigh your dry ingredients with a kitchen scale. That's what we do here. Even measuring cups can vary in how much they hold.
