What Changes At OKW?

2) A foot bridge over the waterway adjacent to Penninsular Road, placed across from building 28 to the tennis court area. Again to provide easier access to the main pool. An additional benefit from this improvement would be reducing the number of autos resort guests take to the Hospitality House to access the feature pool.
Yep, I agree. We were in building 29 last month, and it seemed like we should have been closer to HH than we actually were. I kept wishing I could just walk across the canal to the area!

I'd love to see a couple rocking chairs on the porches, just like the rocking chairs they have on the porches at HH. Boy, do I feel old saying that! Ok, how's this-let's enlarge "Gurgling Suitcase".

It used to be much larger, but, they shrunk it.

Sounds like one of the major wishes for most is a nice ice cream parlor/sandwich shop with a bigger Gurgling Suitcase. I think the excersise are would get used more if was updated also.

Actually, thousands of OKW owners did buy with the idea that they would be staying at OKW when they stayed at WDW -- all the other resorts were just a gleam in Michael Eisner's eye. ;) I think this is a concept that is hard for some of the newer members to grasp -- especially those who have either never stayed at OKW or who tried it and did not find it appealing to their taste.

However, this is a fantasy thread and sometimes good ideas come from dreaming -- so the more the merrier in thinking of new ideas.

I love Chuck's idea of an ice cream parlor -- that's something I've wished for at OKW myself. After all, it was the hot fudge sundae that got me to sign on the dotted-line in the first place.

Yep, for us too! Loved that ice cream sundae bar in Commodore House!:teeth:

I pretty much like it as it is. The only thing that comes to mind is to run the boat shuttle more hours.

If I remember correctly they start after lunch and I would like to see a mid to late morning start.

I suspect it wasn't cost effective, because so few people stick around to do DTD early in the day.

Agree, but maybe if business picks up at WDW sufficiently they will expand them.

Yes, crowds certainly have been good lately! I seem to remember them cutting back the Trumbo Ferry hours a year or so ago. I know they are adding bigger boats, so maybe they will add schedules too. We didn't take the pontoon last month. We often drive to DTD if we aren't staying at South Point.

I am lazy - so would love room service.

Yes a bigger gym - would be better!

oh Yea I remember the ice cream shop - too bad it got destroyed when sales left....

If we are dreaming - right - then a kennel - now I know Spicey can't stay in my room - but a kennel at OKW would be much better than having to go to FW or Epcot 3 to 4 times a day.

I like the design of POR better - it is easier to get to the main building - I though that OKW was going to be the same design - when I got told no it was CBR (one of the worst designed WDW resort in my opinion) - I almost didn't buy - but hey I love WDW and it was OWN PROPERTY!!!!

one lady asked for a salon - was try of having to take the bus to WDW to go to either the Cont or the GF.

I would also like a food court - not a restuarant - a food court.

also a little food thing at South Pointe pool - I know DD is just a little walk away - but when you are tired.... of course I would want it on the site close to the restroom - nothing to hurt that
view!!!

Elevators would be nice - however - I would like DVC to try to improve the views from the studios on the first floor - they could do that easily by cutting back a little here there of the plants - of course someone else would complaint because they like the dark areas and didn't care about their views and want the privacy....

the 1-bedroom views even on the first floor are great - I don't know why the studio views can't be alittle improved.

Also I would really like the air-condition units to be covered - these are also a really problem to views on the first floor (again studios) - I understand their need and I would not like to stay at any resort in Florida without air-conditioning - but they could cover the things - right???

one more thing - I wish all the pools had walking paths to them - that is what I don't like about building 55 - you have to walk on the pavement and when I don't have shoes on that hurts!!! If there is a walking path - somebody tell me where it is....

I had to think about this thread over lunch, and I pretty much came up with the same thoughts. OKW is just about perfect in our books though having the launches from DTD run later would be nice. I understand the liability of having people three sheets to the wind coming out of PI and hopping on a boat, but running them until 11:00pm would give OKW families and us older types who don't party like we used to do an option other than fighting for a parking spot, riding a bus or hoofing it after a long day at the parks.

Maybe this will change with the advent of SSR&S?

I doubt it! They have to have circulating air around them because they are condensers.

I think the reason they stop running at 10 has to do with the noise on the waterway that is so close to some of the buildings. I know when we have stayed in buildings 45, 46, 55, and 56 we have been aware of the boats going back and forth. It has never bothered us, but it might if they were running late.

the air conditioner units don't have to be where you can see and heard them all night long.

they could have - they have done it at other resorts - built a big cage - they are still open - just not so noisey and loud - not to mention an eye sore.

WDW has proved that they are great at landscaping - I find it hard to believe that the outside air conditioning units at OKW can not be improved.

I am not saying built a solid building that would be silly - but a fence with a lay over - all open work - would greatly improve the appearance. they would still be open and easy to get to - to change the filter and do work of them when necessary. Not such eye sore and would be quieter.

Well, that is something I've not considered...living in the city and growing up on the bay during the summer I'm accustomed to the sounds of transportation. Still, unless we're worried about horns and noisy passengers, I'd rather have the murmer of a slow boat than a noisy diesel bus. :-)

Yes, and I too am a bit surprised this was not done here. It seems when they designed this, they only considered hiding the condensers from the road, and not from the guests.

At OKW they could easily make an ice cream/sandwich shoppe by making alterations to the take out food area adjacent to the "Gurgling Suitcase", and combining it with part (if not all) of the Community Room Area. Possibly an addition could extend the balance of the building to construct a new Community Room. Meatloaf sandwiches would be nice too (with the usual club, cuban,etc.).
