They're all over the country now--In fact I think we ate at one up in Canada someplace last year.

East of Chicago Pizza was started here in the Willard, Ohio area. It is funny to see the World Head Quarters in our small rural town.

Florida seems to be the pressure cooker for new restaurant chains. Around us, we've got Outback, Bonefish, Lee Roy Selmon's, Flemings, Cheddars, Cody's Roadhouse, Shells, Moe's Southwest and about a million others.

One that started in Fla closed by us last year-Hops. It was good.

I see someone mentioned Carvel-they started in the NYC market and were the one thing I missed the most moving away. Fortunately, we got one here last year :cheer2: The franchise owner heard us lamenting that they don't do pistascio soft serve like we'd had in NY and she gave DH and I her card and told us to call about an hour ahead of time and they'd make sure they had some!

Longhorn Steakhouse started in Atlanta 25 years ago and now they have grown to over 250 stores up and down the East coast and heading out west. They are own by Rare Ind. now, who also own Captail Grill and Bugaboo Steakhouse. Consumer reports just did an article and named Capital Grill one of the best fine dining rest. and longhorn one of the best moderate value rest. Guess who I work for????????????? :)

whooooooooo, another resturant I miss from Georgia, Longhorns!! But when I was in Georgia, I missed In & Out, and mexican food, I know they have mexican resturants in Georiga, but it isn't the same!

Only Richmond franchise I can think of off the top of my head is Bullet's (kind of like a Rally's or Checker's)

Maggiano's and Corner Bakery began as 2 restaurants under one roof in Downtown Chicago about 20 years ago.

More that started in Texas include:
Landry's
Saltgrass Steakhouses
Tin Star
Pappas Restaurants (Pappadeaux, Pappasitos, Pappas Seafood, etc)
Fuddruckers
Mr. Gatti's
Whataburger
TGI Friday's

Actually I believe Friday's first restaurant was in NYC.

Speaking of NYC, Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs of course. Best $4 hotdog you can find on the Florida Turnpike. :rotfl:

But they can have their soggy, way overly salty fries.

Culver's Frozen Custard started in a town 20 miles north of me. I know they are midwestern, but I don't think they are national yet.

Have to put a plug in for Baton Rouge's own Raisin' Canes. One love...Chicken Fingers & Cane's sauce! They're just celebrating their 10th anniversary. Original is just outside the gates of LSU.

Oh, and along with Popeye's, don't forget Copeland's & Cheesecake Bistro. Both of these are Al Copeland's (Popeye's founder) babies.

Gotta go w/ the original post...Mary's Pizza Shack, good eats. Another local restaurant (Santa Rosa) opening up another restaurant in Sacramento (chain?) will be our very own Guy Fieri's (Food Network) Tex Wasabi's Rock-n-Roll Sushi BBQ. Very good food @ Tex's.

Love Longhorn!!!, never had a bad meal there and the service is always great! The Snellville one lets dh buy gift certificates at Christmas for his clients and vendors with a company check. (Outback would only take a credit card.) They were out of petite steaks once so they gave me a huge one for the same price, noticed ds liked my soup, so they brought him a bowl at no charge, had to wait extra long at lunch so they didn't charge us for the appetizer, and I don't think we've ever been when a manager hasn't come around to check on everyone. We used to go when all they served was steak and potatoes and they were open for dinner only. When we were in Orlando in May, we drove out of our way to go to one.

Never knew they also owned Bugaboo, now I know why I liked it when we tried it, LOL. Thanks for the info!
