What Chain Eateries Originated Around You?

The first Kentucky Fried Chicken opened in Salt Lake City - and it's still here. They tore down and rebuilt the building a few years ago, but it's still in the same location.

Umm sorry...
Colonel Sanders became a "Kentucky" Colonel not a "Utah" Colonel.

Florida's west coast:

Outback Steakhouse's first restaurant was in Tampa. I believe Hooters first opened in nearby Clearwater or St. Pete.

Schlotzsky's started here in Austin. The very first one is a few blocks from my office.

I think I read somewhere that Schlotzky's had the country's most fattening single menu item. It was one of their deluxe subs, which was around 2,000 calories by itself.

the original Hooter's is still open in Clearwater. Beef's is a very large chain now, we live about 10 minutes from the original. Bonefish Grill, Shells, and Outback Steakhouse all started in the Tampa area as well.

And don't forget Checkers/Rally's.

This area has started a lot of great restaurants.

Oh I know that, and the original guy was from the south, but his first actual franchised restaurant called Kentucky Friend Chicken was opened here in Salt Lake. There's a huge sign out in front of the restaurant proclaiming it the World's First KFC.

Here's a press release about the anniversary a few years ago from the KFC site: http://www.kfc.com/about/pr/080202.htm

Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Smokey Bones all first opened their doors in Orlando, Florida.

Red Lobster's first restaurant opened in nearby Lakeland.

All four of these restaurants are owned by Darden Restaurants or Orlando, the largest casual dining company in the world.

Hey we also have the world's largest McDonalds, world's largest Hard Rock Cafe, and... (this one just makes me laugh)... the world's largest CHECKERS!

Correct if I am wrong, but they could have built a Checkers the size of a trailer, and it'd qualify as the world's largest. :rotfl2:

I haven't read the entire thread but did anybody cop to McDonalds? :)

What is Potbelly's like? One just opened up here a couple months ago.

We loooooove  Potbelly's. It's basically a twist on a sub shop. They toast the subs and you can get whatever condiments (and lettuce, onion, etc.) on them.

Best thing is that you can get out of there with a lunch for around $5.00. By Chicago standards, that is CHEAP!

I recommend that you give them a try!

Does Schwan's count? Not an eatery but they sell food. Cub Foods originated in my hometown. They sell food too.

From the Kansas City area----Applebee's. I don't know how far out of the midwest it goes.

I lived in Dallas when the first Chili's was opened. TCBY (which I think has gone away now) was started in LR. Popeye's chicken in New Orleans.

Chevy's in No. CA.

Too cool! We still have a TCBY here. :thumbsup2
