mary's pizza is getting realy popular as a chain in california and i get a kick when i go into one and see the photos of mary and her original 'pizza shack'-it brings back memories of going to her place and ordering up a plate of pasta only to have her periodically come out of the kitchen and wandering around the dining room with a pot of meat sauce and saying "you need more meat on your bones" while adding a huge ladle of sauce to your plate

i guess another one of our little local places is going into the franchise bsns-'pizza pucks'. personaly i'm not into pizzas that look like cinnebon's with no toppings (all baked in the dough)-but apparantly they are selling well in some movie theatre chains.

so-any little local restaurants in your area 'hit the big time' and are now all over the place?

hi
the harry ramsdens fish and chip shop chain. the one that is featured in epcot at the u.k. pavilion. :thumbsup2

Krispy Kreme was founded in Greensboro. Not too far from where I live.

Old Spaghetti Factory
McCormick and Schmitts
and in the olden days Farrells!

Legal Seafood. I used to love going there, but I don't like them much anymore, except for raw bar.

I lived in Dallas when the first Chili's was opened. TCBY (which I think has gone away now) was started in LR. Popeye's chicken in New Orleans.

Chevy's in No. CA.

Wendy's started in Columbus, OH, but that's 2 hours away. Offhand, I can't think of one that started in Cleveland.

I don't live there now, but I did...Sonny's BBQ originated in Gainesville. I have been to the original restaurant.

I love Popeye's - besides the spicy chicken their mashed potatoes with gravy and biscuits are the best!!

I believe Burger King started in Miami. That is pretty close to Boca.

mama celeste pizza.....(.I don't think it counts as a chain its more of a brand), my dad used to hang around her restuarant and is still friends with son.

The first McDonalds opened by the McDonalds brothers opened up in San Bernardino, CA in 1940

The first McDonalds opened by Ray Croc was near Chicago in 1955.

Also,

Carls Jr. (who now own Hardee's) - Anaheim, CA just a few mile north of DLR on Harbor Blvd.

In 'n Out - Baldwin Park, CA off I-10

Famous Dave's Barbeque - Hayward wisconsin

Not too far from where I grew up!
