What car would you choose?

You can't always assume the Camry will last longer as I had a 1999 VW Jetta that I put over 300,000 miles on (it took a lot of Disney trips).

I was going to suggest keeping the Jetta and selling the Camry and adding that to the kitty for a new car or using that money to fix the minor issues with the Jetta. A 90K mile Jetta has at least 200K more miles in it. I also would not buy two new cars at the same time. We try to stagger car purchases here so that we're not replacing both at the same time.

Have you seen the Toyota Venza? It looks a lot like that infinity. I've had mine since September and really enjoy it. I have a v6 not AWD. It is available in v4.

O
I will say a Toyota if you love it because devaluation is how you lose the most money buying a car and Toyota and Honda are 2 brands that keep their value the most int your price range.
Subarus hold their value better than the above mentioned. Not to mention I personally believethey are really underestimated, awd can't be beat.

Lovesdumbo--Ooooh, I love the Venza. I wish I could get rid of my "mom" van and get me one. I test drove it and I loved it. How do you feel about the views out the windows though? That was the only thing that bugged me a little. It seemed like it has a pretty big blind spot in the back. Either way, I really like that car.

I was concerned about that when I bought the car but I really haven't noticed it as a problem now that I have the car.

I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would. We had 2 toyota Sienna mini vans. Last summer the 1998 one needed about $1,000 worth of repairs. It would have been worth fixing EXCEPT it had a water leak and smelt really bad-my DH was driving it. I could smell it on the kids clothes if they had been in the car. Our other Sienna is a 2006 AWD that I was driving. I got the Venza without AWD to improve gas mileage. We didn't get a lot of snow this winter but the few storms we did the front wheel drive with traction control was just finebetter than the toyota Avalon I traded in for the 2006 Sienna.

I had a bit of a hard time finding a V6 that wasn't AWD and that wasn't loaded. All those extras looked really cool but I couldn't justify the extra expense for all that. The only extra that was on mine was the floor mats. I would have LOVED the rear view camera!

You all are so much more mature than me.

I'd buy a Camaro. The 6 speed, v6 navy blue one. I'd probably stripe the hood too lol

Or an Equinox in the same navy blue.

I've gone back and forth on these cars for 2 years now. Since I can't make up my mind, I've not bought anything.

But I also agree with the person that said sell both old cars and buy two 15K cars. My Elantra is 11 years old this November and it is still running strong (another reason I can't commit to a new car).

(Camaro! Camaro! Camaro!)

I'm with you on the Camaro! Love those cars.

In the past 3 years I have had a 2001 Honda Accord, a 2007 Toyota Camry and a 2007 Honda Civic.

The Accord was totaled
We got rid of the Camry because it was one of the recalled cars

And I drive the Civic now.

We also have a 2008 Prius and a 2005 Camry. I loved my accord adn I love my civic. i did not like my Camry adn I'm not fond of either my dads prius or my mom camry either.

Personally, hondas are my favorite. And I am still having trust issues about Toyota and it would probably be a loooong time until any deal could get me to buy one

Yea, I drive a 2005 Sienna. Glad to hear the view on the Venza isn't a problem. I'm wishing I was you! No new car in my near future though...we just got rid of our '98 Accord for DH and traded it in for a FIT. I'll be driving my Sienna for another 4 years before we even think about it. Sigh...

We love our AWD 1992 Subaru so when it came time for something new we looked into Subarus. Several people with new 10s and 11s have steering wheel shaking issues that so far are not resolved. Dealers have tried all kinds of things and some are still not right and some people had to go the Lemon car route. I read about it mostly on the Outback fourm. Look close for info if you are thinking of them. We ended up with an AWD Honda CRV.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I will look into it and will be aware when it is time to buy.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your help. DH and I went to try out a bunch of cars and picked up a new accord this morning. We got a great deal and are selling DH's car to a friends brother who is a mechanic and will fix it up for himself to use.

Thanks again

Congrats!! I just bought a new (to me) car at the end of May and I looked at everything, from gently used to brand spanking new. The 2011 Camry, Accord and Sonata's were just out of reach for my budget so I turned to gently used. I loved the Camry, Accord and really, really, really loved the Acura TSX and TL (was looking at 2007 models with less than 50k miles).

In the end I purchased a 2009 Camry from a private seller and I LOVE it. It has an extended warranty that is transferable too, up to 7 years/100k miles! Not to mention that it is fully loaded and I got it for less than $18k.

I know now that gently used is the way to go. I'm hoping in about 5 years to keep the Camry and get either a 4 Runner or a Venza. I :lovestruc:lovestruc the Venza!! Being on the Toyota lots was killer. I kept gazing at the Venzas (esp the pearl white ones).

Since we get new cars every decade or so it was painful to see all the pretty pretty cars that were out of our price range. But since it was the end of the month we got a great deal on the accord. About 2k than we expected.

similar situation.. a family member offered to pay for my new car since my previous nissan was 10yo and had about 140K on it. this family member believes in newer cars always.

I pushed for several months and then broke down and agreed.

I got a used (under 2 yrs) Mazda 3 Hatchback under 20K miles for a very good price (under $14K). the previous owner even has a maintenance plan on it so I've yet to pay for an oil change, and my next will be the last free one.

i added an extended warranty from my credit union and I'm set. The car gets great gas mileage and runs great with awesome interior space.

I agree with others to try for 2 cars, or buy one with the $25K and sell both used cars and get a 2yo car for cheap...
