What can you do with pts?

Here's a quandary - I've never found myself with unused or unbanked points before, but due to any number of events/coincidences/changes of plans, I find myself with * points remaining on my use year, which is through *. So I put it to the DVC experts out there...what can you do, or what would you do? BTW, I'm booked already for a studio at Saratoga Sep 16-20.

Can anything else be done with points other than booking a DVC villa, such as paying for services/maid service/meal plans/exchanging for expenses/etc? Would you try to add the points to the existing Sep stay by upgrading to larger accomodations if available? Would you try to rent/sell the points? Would you book a 2-day weekend studio stay just to burn them up? Would you just let them die?

All advice appreciated...I'm just trying to decide the best way to deal with these spare points!

You could try to rent them on the Rent/trade board. Then you use the cash for other things. Beside that, ponts are only good for accomidations. I assume you can't bank them?

I would upgrade to a larger villa for the trip you already have planned before I would let them go to waste!

Upgrade is a good idea and renting them would put cash in your pocket for the trip. Either way you win!!!

Work with a local charity or Make a Wish and book a studio at OKW for a 5 night Sun - Thur stay for a family less fortunate:)

Nice ideas...too bad they can't be used for anything else..despite being in DVC 14 years I just never have been in this situation so I never really looked into whether or not anything else could be done with the points. I suppose trying to upgrade accomodations might work - though I couldn't get all 4 nights in a 1-bedroom, I could do a 2+2 or 3+1 with a studio. Too late to bank. I've never rented points before - I suppose I should check around on that board for what the process is. And the charitable idea is a very noble one and nice - I might have to look into whether that would be an option - I suppose for local Florida families a vacation up there on short notice might be something they could swing, if presented with an offer for a free stay.

Thanks all for the info and advice.

Depending on the number of points, I would either rent them on the rent/trade board or upgrade your vacation home. Renting will give you cash for your trip and an upgrade would be really nice.

We've taken a last minute trip, spent a night in NYC, and have rented them out.

Since you have been a member for so long ,MS will most likely grant you a one time banking extension to help keep you from losing your points. You will need to call MS and explain your situation and ask if there is any thing they can do to help. You might be pleasantly surprised with their willingness to be of service. All they can say is nothing can be done, which I doubt they will, and then you could rent the points or use them. Good luck, magic does happen! Let us know what happens.

Add a day onto to your current reservation with the points and if you need more points to make a night's reservation, use the one time use points that you can purchase through MS for $15 per point (up to 24 points).

I hope it works out for you.

Can you deposit them in to RCI for use later?

Resolution! It was indeed a little easier than I expected. I first checked on upgrading my studio res in September, and told them I really didn't want to let them go to waste. I was just inquiring, and needed to decide how to handle the points best...surprisingly the DVC rep actually suggested that since I haven't ever had an issue like this before, and have always used or banked points on time, they offered to roll them for me to next year. A kindly offer indeed - I see someone above suggested that even. I guess I shouldn't consider that a regular perk and leave my points laying around each year until the last minute. ;) This one was rare, as I had planned the points to be remaining for a 1-bedroom September stay, when the person that was going with me ended up unable to go...it was before I booked, so my initial thought was to just grab a studio for me, and surely I'd find cause to head up again before the use year was up...but then I ended up planning a cruise (non-Disney) at the end of October, and it became impossible to take any more time off of work in such short space - and now I was past my banking date. That's how I ended up in this situation...which is now fortunately resolved. Again, thanks to all for the quick ideas - if I'm ever in this situation again I probably won't be able to bank late, so it's good to know what other options I have!

I'm glad to hear that it all worked out. It would have been a shame to lose those points.

Glad to hear that the MS CM came through with the solution for your unbanked points. Enjoy your trip.
