What can I sell on ebay to save for our trip?

Thanks for all the great tips on here. This board has motivated me to keep a change jar and it is definitely going to help towards the costs of our next trip.

But, I could do with a little extra help, as flights are expensive from over here? I thought about selling a few things on ebay but, I have moved house and got rid of stuff so many times that I have nothing much to sell!

What sells well on ebay? Also, have any of you used those disc that provide information on wholesalers that can be bought on ebay? Are they worth it? Thanks.

I have used the program you're mentioning & it is SUCH a rip off! AVOID that scam at all costs! I have seen a lot of things on eBay that go well (I buy & sell there A LOT). Some of my best successes have been with: kid's outgrown clothes, music CDs, books...just to name a few. eBay is an excellent forum for obtaining quick cash & you'd be amazed at what you have that people will buy! I actually saw someone selling 3 used bedsprings once & they had bids!!!!!!

Last Thanksgiving I was going to all the early morning sales,and at each store there were women who were buy 2or 3 extra items to sell on ebay?? One store had toaster,hand mixers,and waffle irons for $5,each. And they were scooped up by these women to sell on ebay. At another store they had Skooters for $10.,the year before they were selling for $150. and there women scooping them up,too,for ebay!!

So,even If you don't have anything used,watch the local sales,and when there is a great Discount on an item buy 1 or 2 and list it on Ebay!!

That's a great idea Tink2dw. I once found Snow White videos for $9.00 (the first ones issued, not the newer one) and I bought them all and sold them for $20 or more on e-bay and Half.com. I've also sold alot of Barbies and Barbie accessories. What I like to buy on e-bay is antique tea pots and vintage kitchen items. Good luck!

I just started doing ebay b/c I love to shop and I know brands and good deals. We have an awesome Goodwill here and kids clothes are .99 so I have been buying some brand name stuff and listing it. I have also done my kids outgrown clothes. I've made probably 400.00 in the past 3 months I could make more but I only have so much time. If you do kids clothes which do sell well, you might want to try lots of things and brand names do do better. Especially Disney Store, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger. I also have gotten great buys at a salvage store near here on sketchers and resold those. If it is something you could return in 30 days if it doesn't sell you've only lost your listing fee. Thanks everyone. I did a search on this board and listed some books on amazon.co.uk last night and I am going to try some on ebay too. Do people really buy these? I have far too many that I will never read again.

My husband is getting a digital camera this week as he needs it for work so I am going to use that for my ebay listings.

My aim is to save so that we can visit in January instead of May next year!

Living in UK, people are always looking for a copy of Song of the South! Not available in US. I bought one on E-Bay last Christmas for DH. Had it converted to VHS and he was thrilled!

How does one get started with selling things on e0-Bay. Lots of those auctions look professionally done. Is it fill in the blank to provide information or do you need one of the specialty programs to make your auctin look nice? I have a couple of the Grand Floridian bath robes that we have not ever used. think those would sell?

I have sold it all! Even underwear! If you have the time it is great. I work full time and am full time mom, so I retired but I did very well with the things I like, childrens books esp.

Our symphony league has a book sale every 6 months and I would buy lots of old kids books, one or two sold for 100.00! I watch the Goodwill and Salvation Army and also Garage Sales. The first step is to spend time on Ebay and look at what sells. When I picked up stuff, I would look for similar items on Ebay to get an idea of price and help with description. Good Luck!

One last piece of advice, well maybe two lol. The post office will give you free boxes for mailing if you use priority mail, I never overcharged on postage, that makes people mad and you need a clean slate on feedback. And, put all the money you make into Disney fund! I started using it for day to day expenses and it lost its fun.

One of my best buys was 1000 old cross stitch pamphlets from a garage sale of retired craft store owners, I bought them for 10 cents each and sold for 4 to 5 dollars each. WOOT!

One more though, last I promise, look at the scrapbooking paper piecing items, You can cut and paste and some of them sell for 35.00 or more!

Another thing at sales-take note of items that 'might not' sell. I went to a garage sale once when we were out of town. She had a couple big boxes of the HUGE romance books. I stopped back at the end of the sale and she had only sold a couple. I offered her $10 for all of them and she didn't want to pack them away so she took it. I took them to the local drugstore where he has a used book rack and he gave me 25% of face amount - cash. I made about $75 profit for hauling them home with me.

I would really like to find a good source for wholesale items of some type to list thou. I just don't know where to start looking!

Everything sells! I've been selling on Ebay for over 3 years - some of the stuff I've sold: outgrown children's clothing, collector plates, maternity clothes, videos, toys, etc. etc. etc. Anything that is not glued down. About a year ago, my mom had a yard sale and one of my niece's had a used BETA player. It didn't sell at the garage sale so my niece was throwing it out. My mom saved it for me (cause it looked like somthing I might be able to use), and I got over $70 for it on Ebay. I've bought new stuff at the store on sale and gotten twice what I've paid for it. Went to the outlets and more than doubled my money. Got Halloween costumes at clearance and made 4 times what I paid. Takes a little time, but it's worth it if you're not rich. And Ebay is pretty easy to use. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all this info everyone. I started on ebay and amazon only two weeks ago and have now made the equivalent of about $120 in two weeks.

All I have been selling so far is my old books and a couple of videos! It is definitely worth it. Amazon is so easy to use and you really can make good money for your books. Plus they are easy to list.

This board is helping me save loads for my trip, with the above tips and the change jar, hopefully I will be able to save for my whole trip. Thank you.

Hey guys,

I have not only bought from stores sells for resell, but have also bought from ebay and resold. The last item I did this with I bought off of ebay for $22 and resold a few weeks later for $86. Ya just have to know what is selling well and look for the items that are placed wrong or misspelled.

The one thing I have not tried is the kids clothes. I will have to look into that. KIDS SURE DO OUT GROW THEM FAST! Music CDs have always worked well for me. I sold the soundtrack to "Toy Story" for $25 used. Others I've sold for around $50 (most of these were out of print).

Also be as helpful and as nice as you can. People really look at your ratings before they bid.

How do you know how much to charge to ship the items? I have a lot of books I would like to sell.

Books are best shipped media (old book rate) rate via USPS (our regular mail). If you go to USPS.com and look up media mail, you can get the rates. It's much cheaper than priority or first class, especially for heavier packages. You can also ship video tapes and magazines this way. While it's a little slower than regular mail, the price difference makes it worth while. Good luck!
