We have never shared a table in the MDR on embarkation day, didn’t know that was a thing.

It was actually 6 of us and the dog. A family of 3, a couple, and me. We had been chatting in line and when we got to the front and were asked how many, we said SIX! I much prefer to eat alone but it was a nice way to start the cruise. We were all excited and had been in line together for 15 minutes. Never saw any of them again on the ship.

So, I am curious how everyone wants to start their cruises. Lots of different options - but wondering which one people tend to think is the best way to start their cruise!
It really depends - sailing out of Florida? Sit down on cruise. Sailing out of San Diego - get a great lunch at the seafood restaurant nearby and then just casually walk on once the crowds trying to board go down.

I like the buffett, the last couple of cruise its DH and me, or a friend and me.

I always get my table first, I leave my reading glasses on table with a drink and take my time looking over the offerings.

I am a seasoned DCL cruisers, who knows it not a buffett line, but stations. Some of the best items are all the way to the back.

I also like to taste a little bit of this and a little bit of that. No need to load one plate up with more food than you need.

I take my time and have a leisurely lunch, going up a few times to try different items.

I love the variety of the buffet.

I like the newer ships that have the counter and stool seating, especially the ones over looking the water. It's a great place for solo folk or adults.

DH is an early riser, so we usually it breakfast seperately. Sometimes lunch together and of course alway dinner.

Oh, on Embarkment it's diffently the buffet. I got off topic on my above response.

We check our bags, we do not like dragging things all over the ship. We usually have two backpacks or a tote.

We grab a table and take turns going to the buffet. Like I said above, we always grab our table and drinks first.

We love the variety of the buffet.

On embarkation day, we always head to Cabanas. It's actually the only time we we have any kind of "proper" lunch. We don't set foot in Cabanas or a MDR for lunch any other day. It's typically just the pool deck food every other day (lunch is done in Cabanas and the MDR when we get back onboard during port days, so not really even an option). We're generally not "lunch people" anyway - particularly on a vacation. At WDW, we never eat lunch either. It's typically a decent breakfast, snacks during the day, and a sit-down/TS dinner.

I have done a mixture. My last cruise - early Aug on Wish, the buffet had no free seats. I was by myself so I didn’t really feel comfortable putting my bag out on the pool table and then trying to fight the horde at the buffet. It was also pretty hot outside. So I went down to 1923 but it was only concierge so they sent me to Arendelle. The guy outside said it was full but let me in after I said the buffet was full. When I was waiting at the line at the check in station, the couple in front of me said they were willing to share and I raised my hand. So we all ate together. They were super nice. They were surprising a family that they know but didn’t know they were going on the cruise too. They set a scavenger hunt for the family to find them. So they had to be at a certain spot by 1:30 pm. I saw them later that day with the family they were surprising.
