Let me start by saying - I HATE Internet Explorer! The damned thing doesn't render pages correctly and has forced me to toil away on my forums, attempting to find a decent style that actually worked on it!

So I need to find out: what browser do you use? Do I need to kowtow to compatibility?

Many thanks!

Safari on my mac and Firefox on my pc. I am forced to use IE on my work pc, and also hate it.

I use Firefox on my macs. Got used to it and all the great add-ons that you can't get with safari. I do think safari is faster.

Firefox at home, IE (grr) at work.

Firefox or as DW says: "Foxfire" Heheheheee

On my laptop I use Chrome and IE6. On our home desktops we use IE7. I like Chrome but it doesn't always display pages correctly so I have to look at them in IE.

Safari. I can always tell when DS17 has been using my MacBook because he leaves his Firefox windows open. (He's finally gotten smart enough to log himself out of Facebook and GMail. I told him that if he leaves himself logged in on MY computer I have free reign to do what I want!)

On my PC I use Firefox but on my laptop I get a lot of jave errors with Firefox and I recently starting using Opera.

Firefox and Google Chrome. IE last the resort.

I use Google Chrome, and I love it. It's faster, and I don't need to type in the full address on the browser, it just comes up. And I can google search directly from the address bar, it's great. Also has a great pop up blocker. I love it. I only use IE for some things that are not supported on google chrome yet, like some streaming videos. Firefox I use when I bring my laptop to school since I have to connect to the network through a proxy, and it's annoying to keep taking it on and off.

I had a couple of very trusted computer guys recommend to me that I go with Firefox. I've been using it for some time now, and I'm very happy with it.

Firefox! I love all the add-ons :).

I have IE loaded for pages that do not play well with Firefox.

The one good thing about this poll is that it gives us a really good view of how inaccurate certain types of polls are on discussion forums. This one surely shows that polls are heavily biased towards choices that people are passionate about, and biased against choices that people who don't care as much would make.

It's a very common phenomenon actually -- go to any high-tech a/v forum and it is easy to get the impression that everyone loves HD and cannot live without it, that listening to television without Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is sacrilege, that no one could possibly want to watch television any way other than "OAR", etc. While these are the choices made by the most passionate within the context, they tend to be less-so the case when looking at the full population.

And note that, in both venues, the most passionate answer isn't necessarily the right answer -- it is only the right answer if you, yourself, are passionate about the context.

I'm a Firefox user, and happy enough to be part of a relatively small minority, rather than a member of the majority, as this poll would tend to lead someone to believe. ;)

I feel your pain about compatibility issues with IE for forums and websites.

I finally cut off the IE 6 users. It got to the point where I was spending 75% of my time trying to make my websites compatible with IE 6 and finally said enough.

I posted on the websites and forums that as of XX date, I will no longer support IE 6. For those still using it (which was about 25% of my visitors) just get a different browser.

It took about two months, but the number of IE 6 users is now down to only 2% of the visitors and my monthly traffic hasn't dropped at all. So, they finally switched but only when I cut off their stupid browser.

So, they finally switched but only when I cut off their stupid browser.
A good lesson for folks who are advocating delaying the DTV transition -- some people won't switch until you take away their ability to continue using a service without switching.
