Just wondering... what types of Disney collectibles are the most valuable, most sought after, or best investment? Some choices...

Armani
Walt Disney Classic Collection
Goebel
Starlite
Swarovski
Arribas Brothers
Chilmark Pewter
Olszewski

Feel free to add any collections that I missed.

Don't buy anything marked "collectible" as an investment. They never go up in value, and after their market appeal is gone, so is their value. Buy them because you love and enjoy them, not as something to hold and resell.

Remember what happened to Beanie Babies and Precious Moments? They are worthless today.

Original production cels, especially if they are framed with an original production background.

(And Beanie Babies make great filler for boxes when moving.)

I agree with the cels being the most valuable/valued Disney collectible. Especially if it is from an older movie. Especially if it is from a much loved scene.

(This is the best Beanie Baby tip I have heard in ages. I'm going to putting this idea to good use!)

Chiming in to agree that anything that is marketed as "collectible" is a dicey proposition as an investment. I think the internet has really put a dent in the value of some of the Disney stuff from the past 30 years or so.

If you're looking for something that might appeciate in value, I agree that the cels are a good place to start. Also original Disney merch from the 30s/40s/50s can be worthwhile. Take a look at Ebay and watch what items are actually selling for, not what the seller is asking.:earsboy:

I was originally asking because there is a store in my area that is having a huge sale(possibly closing) on Disney merchandise - all the brands I listed above. However, they do not have animation cels. All the Disney merchandise is 1/2 price, or more. I already got the Starlite Peter Pan's Flight piece for less than 1/2 ($750) of what it sells for at Disney($1600). I was considering getting another piece or two, and I liked items in all the different brands. So, I was just wondering if some are more valued than others.

I own that Starlite Peter Pan piece too - got it at the Disney outlet for $600 in 2008

WDCC are a good choice depending on the piece
a good resource would be check completed ebay auctions to see values

One company I wish still had a strong Disney product
set is Master Replicas.

I have the Monorail Replica (Red), and the Jungle Cruise
boat.

If they were still making things (related to MK park), Id
keep buying them.

Ive also seen the movie version of the Nautilus from 20000
Leagues under the Sea. Im still on the fence about this
one.

Was there ever a MK-ride version of the old 20000LUTS
boat model ever sold?

p.s. we come in May11. I hope to find one or two 'big-ticket' items such as Ive mentioned.
